Princess Academy Boy (Other; 1)

Hi its my writing club short story yay

Princess Academy Boy

"Hey Gay Boy," Gable's voice rang through the hall like a broken bell. Most people ignored the wanna-be bully, but Aubrey liked to mess around with him whenever he had a chance. Or maybe he just liked doing whatever no one else was.

"Hey Blondie, what can I help you with?" Aubrey directed his statement to Gable's near white blonde hair. He thought bleaching it that light was so cool. But Aubrey was sure he was the only one with that biased opinion.

    "Got any new boyfriends?"

Aubrey sighed. As much as he liked poking fun at this guy, it was hard to deal with his idea of being smart and offensive.

"No, but do you have any new insults? Because at this point you're not even degrading my sexuality. Just the fact that I can't flirt."

"Yeah I, uh, bet you can't."

"Um, alright then, Blondie. But this gay boy has to get to class, so I'll catch ya later." He threw his backpack onto his back, carrying it over one shoulder. He walked down the hall towards English and away from the broken bell.

He dropped his backpack on a desk in the back and started pulling out papers he had neglected to put away in his folder. He looked at the boy sitting next to him, curiosity driving his interest. Aubrey had to admit, he was pretty cute. With his ink-colored hair ironically shining in the sunlight and his pale yet charming blue eyes focused on something in the backpack, which was sitting open on his desk.

"Hey, what's that?" Perfect pickup line, Aubrey thought.

The boy's eyes jerked up towards Aubrey, who was standing at his side trying his best to look confident. "It- it's nothing," he said while shutting his backpack. Aubrey knew if this boy didn't want to show him whatever it was, it was probably personal, yet he glanced in his bag as he closed it anyway.

"Oh, it's a book! How adorable! That's so-" he didn't finish his thought. The boy was facing him with an uneasy look. "Wait, what's wrong? Was is something I said? It was probably something I said. What was it? I promise I won't say it again!"

"No, no! It wasn't anything you said," the boy's cheeks were dusted pink as he turned to his backpack, avoiding eye contact. "I just don't like telling people that I read."

"But, why? Reading is cool, I'd say," No wonder I can't flirt. I can't even hold a conversation to begin with, Aubrey scolded himself. The boy, however, was practically gawking at him. "Oh, no what did I say wrong this time? I'm sorry, I'm so bad at this, aren't I?" Aubrey sat in his chair beside the boy, his face red.

"You really think that? That reading is cool?"

"What? Of course, I do. Hey, what book were you reading anyway?"

He opened his backpack and pulled out a copy of Princess Academy. It was clear it had been read multiple times. Its spine was creased to no end and the corners of the cover were worn, but it looked well taken care of. "It's my favorite book," the boy smiled brilliantly and confirmed Aubrey's thoughts. His smile must have been infectious as Aubrey found himself grinning as the boy continued to talk about the lessons and virtues the book taught and all his favorite characters and why he loved them so. The boy was even prettier when he smiled though, and Aubrey began to find it difficult to listen. The finally comfortable situation, however, was quickly interrupted by the sound of Gable troublesome voice.

"What's that? Why are you reading a girls' book?"

"Hey, hey Blondie! Since when do you have this class?"

"I got a schedule change today, so what?"

Aubrey coughed, "How convenient. Anyway, don't you have anything better to do? We're trying to have a nice conversation here."

"Aw, Gay Boy, is this your new boyfriend?"

"What? N- no! I told you earlier, I'm still single! Besides, I'm not dating every guy I talk to."

"You sure? 'Cause that look on his face isn't quite saying that that's what's happening."

Aubrey mumbled under his breath ("Why did you phrase that so weirdly?") and moved his gaze to the boy next to him. His white smile contrasted greatly with his fire red complexion as he clutched his book and looked him. Aubrey couldn't help but notice how quickly his expressions changed. "You're gay?" He asked.

    "Oh uh, yeah, why?"

    "And single?"

"Oh yeah, I'm not good at talking to attractive people." He laughed at his own joke but the boy just smiled to himself and put his book away. Since they had started talking again, Gable had gotten bored and sat near the front of the room and the teacher had begun setting up for the class.

"So did you know that Gable's name actually means 'gobler,' which was an old nickname for tax collectors?"

The boy laughed and looked at Aubrey with joy, "Does it really? Do you know a lot about names then?"

"Sort of, I guess. Why what's your name?"

    "Galen."

"Oh, I remember that one, it means calm or peaceful."

"Really? That sounds so nice! What about your name?"

He grinned, "My name, Aubrey, means ruler of elves." Galen laughed, "Wait what's so funny?"

"Oh nothing, it just seems so fitting with the way you talked to Gable."

"Really? Nice, I've always thought so, too."

Galen smiled, "So, Ruler of Elves, are you free this Saturday?"

A look of such a pure mixture of astonishment and excitement found a home on Aubrey's face as he asked, "Really?" his voice creaking near the end.

Galen giggled, "Yes, really, Gay Boy."

"In that case, what do you think about lunch, Princess Academy Boy?"

The boys smiled, so genuinely happy, as Galen replied and they finally had to return attention to class.
