The Siblings
The girl smothered Jane into such a tight hug, she couldn't breathe.
"Who are you?!" Jane asked, her eyes bulging.
"I'm Evelyn. Evelyn Portman." The girl squeezed Jane one last time, and stepped back.
"We share the same father, but me mum's different than yours." Evelyn told Jane, her British accent seeping through.
"I have a twin, too! Dad's luck, eh?" Evelyn, oblivious to Jane's face of shock.
A boy bounded through the foliage.
"Evelyn! What have I told you about-" he sees Jane and abandons all dignity.
"JANE!" he squeals, and tackles Jane in yet another hug. Evelyn joins in again.
"I'm Victor Portman, named after the infamous Victor Bruntly." The boy explains through Jane's shirt, hugging her tighter. Bronwyn gasps. Victor peels off of Jane.
"We were raised by Grandpop Portman." he says, and Bronwyn catches his eye.
"Bronwyn!" he says, and hugs her.
"Enoch!" Evelyn squeals, opening up her arms for a hug.
"I. Don't. Do. Hugs." he grumbles, as Evelyn giggles but obliges.
"Jane!" Jacob's voice rings through. The younger children turn toward each other and squeal.
"JACOB!!!!" they cry, and tackle him. Jacob falls over, yelling at Jane.
"Who are these people?!" he bellows.
"Jake, meet Evelyn and Victor Portman." Jane says helplessly.
-------------
"You killed the hollow?!" Evelyn asks, intrigued.
"Er- yes." Jacob says, uncomfortable, as they make their way back to the house.
"How old are you again?" Evelyn thinks for a moment.
"Thirteen or fourteen. I forget." she shrugs.
"Fourteen." Victor says, more to himself than to say to anyone.
"Well, we don't know!" Evelyn giggles. Her eyes seem to glance at Enoch again. Jane makes a gagging motion to Jacob, who nods, and returns the favor. They smile knowingly.
They came upon Hugh, who told them that Miss Peregrine and Miss Avocet had been captured! Jane looked ashen.
"No..." she looked like she was going to cry. Hugh produced a photo.
"H-he told me that if I disobeyed, he'd do this to Miss-"
"Give me that!" Jane cried. She inspected it.
"This is just some random old crow. But, we've got to go get him." her fists clenched, and the photo scrunched up.
--------------------
Fiona shouted, in frantic Irish.
"I see." Evelyn nodded. "Millard followed Golan, guys. They went that way." She pointed behind Fiona.
"Wait. You understand her?" Hugh asked. Evelyn nodded.
"Me and Victor speak a bunch of languages, and we both have our own seperate powers too."
"Wow." Jane said, then she ran to where Evelyn pointed.
"Get down, Jane!" Millard hissed. Jane dropped onto her knees.
----------------------------
"Do you have any other boats hidden around here?" Jacob asked Emma.
"I'm afraid not," she said. "We'll just have to swim across."
"Swim across and what?" asked Millard. "Get shot to pieces?"
"We'll figure something out." Emma replied.
"Oh, lovely. Improvised suicide.
"Well?" Emma looked at each of them. "Does anyone have a better idea?"
"If I had my soldiers..." Enoch began.
"They'd fall to pieces in the water." said Millard.
Enoch hung his head. The others went quiet.
"Then it's decided. Who's in?"
Both pairs of twins raised their hands, as did Bronwyn.
"Take me along, if you must," Millard added on, "You'll need someone they can't see."
The others wished them luck as they set off.
------------(I'm sorry!!!!!!!!!! I've got NO time at all!!!!!)
"LOOK OUT!!!" Jacob and Jane shouted in unison, but it was too late.
A shot rang out. Millard screamed. Jane forgot everything and put her champion swimming skills to use. She sped like a silver arrow across the lake.
He was kneeling in the water, dazed, blood running down his torso.
"Millard?! Are you alright?!" Jane took him by the arms.
"Say Something!"
"I must apologize," he said. "It seems I've gone and gotten myself shot."
Jane laughed bitterly. "Yes, Mill. It seems so."
"Bring him here." Victor intoned, caught up. Jane obliged, and Victor positioned his hand on the area of the bullet. He focused, his eyebrows scrunching, he mumbled something in a language Jane did not understand, and the blood stopped. Millard gasped.
"I- Wait, what happened? What's going on?"
"Healing." Jane broke out into a large grin.
"Victor, you're a genius!" She hugged him, then hugged Millard.
----------------------------
"Everyone, fall behind." Bronwyn instructed, and they filed behind her and her iron door.
"CHARGE!" Jane shouted. They ran, Bronwyn, Emma, Jacob, Jane, Millard, Victor, and Evelyn. They all ran.
"Stay here, Mill. You too, Victor and Evelyn. I don't want you to see what's about to go down."
"Why ever not, Jane?" Millard asked.
"You were just about to die there! I don't care about me dying, but I sure as hell care if you die! So, Stay. Here. Look for Miss Peregrine."
"All-all right, Jane." Millard said, resolved.
"Let's go, Bronwyn. Jacob, Emma." They raced up the lighthouse steps, and came to Golan.
------------------
"Jacob! Hand it to me!" Jacob handed Golan's gun to her.
Jane held the gun, her resolve clear.
"You hurt one of my friends. You hurt my brother. You hurt Miss Peregrine, and Miss Avocet. You, additionally," she placed her finger on the trigger, "should know that you never-" she narrowed her eyes. "Mess. With. Me." She pulled the trigger, and looked away. Then, as he fell over the side, Jane fell, exhausted, the adrenaline wearing off.
