The Headmistress
By the time they arrived close to the house, Jane hardly felt Millard's hand on her binds. Jane supposed that Millard just didn't like to take people prisoner, which was only confirmed when she heard Millard say "I can't believe that Emma won't believe them when they said that they're Abe's grandchildren...though perhaps heartbreak could be part of it all..."
"What'd you say?" Jane asked curiously.
"I haven't said a word," Millard replied sounding confused.
"I-never mind." Ugh. That was twice today now.
When they came into view of the house, Jane's jaw almost dropped. The house had truly been gorgeous before the whole...bomb thing.
Jane was hardly able to shake off her shock before Emma went to retrieve the 'Headmistress'.
"Watch them, and make sure they don't get away," Emma practically spat the words at Millard before she left. Jane could hear her mutter "Goddamn whites."
As soon as the last of the hem of her dress was around the corner, Jane turned to Millard. "What's her problem?"
"I honestly don't have a clue," Jacob answered while he watched some children playing outdoors.
"Didn't ask you, but good to know," Jane returned. "But, uh, Millard? Why? What? And why does she suspect us of being white?! I mean, we are, but so is she, so-"
At that moment, Emma burst through the doors. "The Headmistress will receive you now." She caught sight of the ropes, however and groaned. "You let go of them!" She hurriedly grabbed Jacob's binds and Millard, though groaning, did the same.
Jane gave him a questioning look before opening her mouth again. "Does she do this often?"
Millard sounded caught off-guard when he finally answered her. "Do what often?"
"Oh, you know, taking innocent people exploring an abandoned house prisoner." Millard seemed to make some noise that sounded suspiciously like a snort.
"Not to my knowledge, no."
"Riiiiight."
