A Blessing or A Curse?

Hello dear readers,
Well, this is far from being a great chapter but I had to write something for you, I know some of you are really impatient! ☺️ So, even if I flew off for holidays, I've tried to write you something.
******************
"Uncle why are you not answering me? What happened that night?" Maddox questioned, his voice filled with restlessness.

"Maddox, you were asking me why your father hated your mother, and why he hates you too, right?" David asked gazing at the little boy's face which looked pale and tired.

"Yeah..." Maddox answered hesitantly as he was not really mentally prepared to hear the reason behind this.

"You know my boy, that night, your mother told your dad that she was pregnant. She was very happy about it but her happiness was short-lived as Evan destroyed it that very night. He told Miranda that he does not want a child. He said that it is only four months since their marriage and he was not financially stable.

Miranda explained to him that if God decided to give them a child, it must be a blessing. And God will make provision for that child's food. God will surely make a way. But Evan insulted her and told her that this child was not a blessing but a curse. And he asked Miranda to choose either the child or him. He knew that Miranda loved him a lot and he felt that by emotionally blackmailing her, she would choose him and forego the baby.

But Miranda's answer was not at all what he expected. She told him, 'Evan I love you so much that I choose to make of you a father.' You know son, since that night, Evan stopped speaking to your mom. That very night, he left home and didn't come back for five days. Your mother had to go to the police to find him. He has been staying at his boss' house. Evan finally returned home when his mother, that is, your paternal grandma intervened to solve their problem. His mother made him swear not to ever leave his wife again. And may be this is the only reason why he stayed with your mother till the end of her days but he never loved her. He stayed only for the sake of his mother whom he respected a lot. Yet, he kept accusing Miranda of manipulating his mother to side with her.

After that, although Miranda did every possible thing to help her husband and beautify their marital life, Evan never showed any interest to improve their relationship. Evan kept pointing fingers at Miranda for their financial instability. One day, he asked Miranda to give him the jewellery she obtained from her mum. He said that he would sell them to start a business. Your mother gave him all of her precious belongings except for that pendant which she kept as a souvenir of her mum. But Evan never started any business, the truth was that he sold all of the jewellery and gambled away the money. And to make it worse, he lost all the money."

"Disgusting," Maddox interrupted, his face and ears went red in anger.

"Indeed. And on top of that, he had the guts to even blame your mother for everything wrong that would happen in their life. He kept saying that his life would be better if he never met your mum.
And then, came the day you were born. On that day, the 12th of July 1990, Miranda delivered twins. That would have probably been the most beautiful day of her life. She felt that God doubled His blessings upon her by gifting her two babies, but your father considered that day as a curse. He came to the hospital to complete certain formalities but as soon as he got to know that twins were born. He left without seeing the babies. He left without seeing you and Elisa."

Maddox looked down as tears ran down his cheeks which were no more as chubby as before.

"Son, I'm so sorry for telling you all this. I'm sorry, I honestly don't want to make you hate your dad, but you so wanted to know the truth," David muttered.

"My mother never taught me how to hate. She only showed me how to love people. But my father isn't worthy of what my mum taught me," Maddox paused, swallowed and then went on, "you know uncle, it takes a strong man to love a strong woman, and my father was far from being a strong one. He was just a coward who could only blame people for his own actions. He was afraid to be blamed, he knew he was guilty, so he found it easy to just shift the blame on others."

"Maddox, your words make me feel like I'm speaking to an adult. You've grown so mature, maybe a little too much. But this allows me to share with you another nightmare your mum lived," David sighed.

"What is it uncle? How many more nightmares did my mum go through?" Maddox asked on the verge of tears.
