Dresden

The amount of free time we had in Dresden was so limited that the only thing that could occupy it was food. By this point in our trip, Lisa and I had joined up with a tour and were wandering around the streets with our new group of friends. So, after a few minutes we'd decided on a place for lunch but made it very clear to the wait staff that we were in a rush and were trying to be tactical with our time.

Once we had sat down we immediately called over a waiter to discuss the circumstances, "We have very limited time, what's the quickest food to make?" We were told that pizza would be, more so than the salads and the pasta. But our orders were as follows: three pizzas, three plates of pasta, and one salad. We immediately asked for the bill as soon as our order was written down.

We were all sitting with our legs tapping in anticipation, with all eyes on the kitchen door for 20 minutes.

"They ordered just before us so we should be getting our food soon..."

But a few more minutes had passed, and still nothing.

"I hope your food comes soon!" The waiter who took our order said with his eyebrows raised. He was so genuine I could feel his hopefulness.

Finally, the pasta was the first to be served, despite being promised that the pizza would have been. I checked my watch for the thousandth time, noting that if we didn't want to miss our bus then we had to start leaving in fifteen minutes. My eyes went to the door again, and I wished I had ordered pasta instead. With every food serving that was brought out of the kitchen, my heart sank as the waiters delivered it to another table. We considered leaving. The bill had already been counted and paid, and the girls who had ordered the pasta and salad were all finished and chatting. We had five minuted remaining on our clock, and we really didn't know if we were going to make it. That was until our waiter finally stepped out of the kitchen to serve us our pizza.

We began by eating normally, you know, with forks and knives until we realised that was dumb. Time was running out and we needed to start moving. Our bus was going to leave, and we weren't going to make it to Berlin.

My name twin, Elena; we had gotten really close with over the past few days, bonding over our name and pride for our cultures. She very innovatively took her entire pizza and folded it in half. She then stood up and began on her way to the bus. I watched, amazed, and followed sue.

The group of us were now powerwalking through the streets of Dresden. Tourists and locals were watching us with a look I can't describe, while we were trying to remember where the bus had parked. I don't quite know what they would have been thinking when they would see a group of girls powerwalking their way through Dresden, laughing while they were eating whole pizzas folded in half. But I can't say I really cared.

We had ten minutes remaining before the bus would leave. All the streets and pathways hardly seemed familiar to us. But although time was scarce and we were close to lost, we couldn't stop giggling between pizza bites.

By some miracle, we headed in the right direction, and by the time we had made it to the bus we had finished the pizza. We were there just in time.

It was by far the greatest pizza I had ever tasted.
