JACK'S EVIL TWIN ... JIM
All through his life, Jack wished he could be more ... normal. Not that he wasn't, he wished he could be more like all the other kids, and he longed to do what all those other kids do, but Jack was more of an outcast, a loner, a nobody ... so it is he felt.
He was tall, skinny and had a smile, usually a smile he would force upon his own face, so big that it seemed to take up more than half his face. He stood out like a sore thumb. Basically, Jack was the geek, the boy who was always picked upon. If all of his quirks weren't reason enough for him to be picked on, Jack would often talk about his twin brother Jim and other boys would bully Jack saying things like 'where's Jim now?', and 'Jim's not gonna help you now, is he?', but when this would happen it would be the other boy or boys who would end up leaving with a bloody nose.
Now Jim was everything Jack wasn't. Jim was stronger, more confidant, had his hair brushed back where Jack's was brushed forward, and even the difference in their clothing was the difference between being geeky and being cool. They were never together in the same place at the same time which meant that Jack was an easy target for being bullied, but every once in a while, Jim would come to Jack's rescue. Even at moments like this it would still appear as if there was just one or the other present.
One incident from when Jack was being bullied happened when Jack was thirteen and at school. Three older boys cornered him and took him out of sight from anyone who may interfere with what it is they wanted to do. As Jack was being cornered, he began to smile that extra-large smile of his, but the smile was one which came out of the fear he felt from anticipating becoming a punching bag and the attack did begin with punches to Jack's stomach.
Something quickly changed as this incident would end with all four boys being brought to the hospital.
The three older boys were kept separate to where Jack was in the hospital. When one of these boys accidentally got close enough to where Jack just so happened to be, his eyes opened wide with fear saying ... 'keep that freak away from me'.
The panic was clear to see. This boy who began the day as a bully was now afraid of the geeky, skinny, younger boy with whom he had picked upon. When Jack was asked about what had happened, he had said that these boys were bulling him; he remembered the first few punches and nothing else until he had arrived at the hospital. Jack had blacked out, but the thought had occurred to him that Jim must have come along and saved him yet again.
There were many more incidents like this over the next few years, whoever picked on Jack would become hurt themselves and Jack would have no memory of it other than the beginning of each event, each time having blacked out.
In his last year of school, Jack had changed quite a bit. He now had his hair brushed back, he had put on some weight, his smile no longer took up half his face and others now feared him as he had feared others in the past.
Jack was no longer the geeky young boy that regularly got his ass kicked, but rather now he had become more like his twin Jim. His attitude and demeanour darkened and that smile of his had become almost somewhat sadistic. He had most definitely changed, he had become someone else, he is someone else, and perhaps he had become the darker side of two halves.
Not long before Jack's last school year was to finish, he was involved in a road accident, an accident that resulted in Jack losing his life. The name on his tombstone reads Jack 'Jim' Green. It came as a shock to many, to discover that Jack had been an only child ...
