5 | Surprise

Something was wrong. Merlin. Harry stood outside the bathroom door, his forehead against the wood, hand clenched into a fist. "Ginny?" he said softly. "Please open the door." The others were behind him. He didn't need to look back to see it. All worried. He took a deep breath and tried again. "Ginny, please?"

"I- It's fine, Harry," she whispered through the door, but she wouldn't open it. She sounded tired.

Something was wrong. He felt it in his bones.

"Out of the way, you lot of overgrown-!"

"Audrey!" One of the Weasleys said, but the small woman bulldozed her way passed, Hermione on her heels.

It took Harry a moment to realize it had been Percy's wife who had spoken. She walked right up to the bathroom door. She paused and met Harry's eyes.

Hermione came forward and said, "Ginny, open the door. Audrey's a healer."

"I don't think-" Harry started, but the door opened and Ginny's hand shot out, pulling Hermione into the bathroom. Hermione, in turn, grabbed Audrey, and the two disappeared inside.

"Wait!" Harry tried the door but it was locked again. "Oh, c'mon," he whispered. He needed to know what was happening. He needed to know she was okay. Ginny. He leaned his forehead against the door again. No sound came through, either.

"Hey." Ron came over and threw his arm around Harry's shoulders. "They'll figure out what's wrong. Don't worry." At the look Harry shot him, Ron laughed. "Don't worry so much. Hermione's in there with her. Audrey too. She's in good hands."

The only hands he would be comfortable with Ginny being in were his. But he exhaled and allowed himself to be moved away. Though, he couldn't keep from looking back every few feet. Ron sat him on the couch next to Percy then sat too.

Percy offered him a smile. "It'll be okay."

Harry scratched his cheek. "I just - last week, she was sick but we thought it'd gone away. She promised she'd go to the healers if she didn't feel better."

There was silence for a moment, but all Harry could think about was Ginny getting sick after breakfast a week ago. He rubbed his forehead and glanced towards the stairs. Maybe he should go check on her-

"Sick?" Bill asked.

"Yeah," Harry said after a sigh. "In the mornings and sometimes at night. She had to stop training for a bit." He'd been so worried. She'd looked so pale and exhausted in their bed. He looked at the stairs again.

"Must've been bad," Percy said.

"Yeah," Harry said again.

"It won't get better anytime soon, I'm guessing," Charlie muttered and then the room burst into laughter.

Harry blinked and looked back at them. "What?"

"You'll see," George added, a wide grin on his face.

Harry glanced around the room at their laughing faces. He was missing something, but he couldn't get past his worry for Ginny.

"So, Ginny's living with you?" Bill asked. Dominique came stumbling on her feet and reached hands up to her father. Bill picked her up, smiling at her.

Harry hesitated a moment then said, "Yeah." He licked his lips. "Is that a problem?" She'd moves in a few weeks after the case finished when she'd spent almost a week at his home.

"No," Charlie spoke up. "It'll be nice to know where she is now she's come back from the unknown."

"And you'll be married by the end of the month," Percy said. "So, it's fine that you're living together."

He smiled, he couldn't help it. Married. He was going to marry Ginny. She would be his wife and living with him and have a family together. A real family. All his own. His smile grew. "Yeah."

"He's not even paying attention anymore," someone said, but they were right. His mind was away in children running through their home in Godric's Hollow, Ginny chasing after them.

"When you ran into Ginny, what was she doing?" Charlie interrupted his daydream.

Harry blinked. "What?"

"What was she doing?" Bill leaned forward as Dominique climbed all over him. "She said she was helping people. What exactly was she doing?"

Harry cleared his throat. This was why he'd told her not to mention anything about that time. Her brothers weren't stupid. They'd piece it together. An image of Ginny swapped with Malfoy locked in Azkaban flashed through his mind. His heart sped up. Oh, Merlin.

"You said you ran into her while looking for someone." Percy pushed up his glasses. "You're an Auror."

Shite.

Harry opened his mouth and prayed someone would come out that make some semblance of sense. "Yeah, she was just got something, and why I saw her, I knew it was her. I would recognize her anywhere." He forced a smile. Dammit, Ginny. "I followed her, and when I turned the corner, we ran into each other." He would never forget the triumph in her eyes, the laughter on her lips, and that sinful black gown.

He righted his glasses and glanced at their faces. Did they believe him?

"She was a little upset to see me," he admitted a moment later.

"Well, that's Ginny. She knows how to hold a grudge," Ron said, grinning.

"We taught her well." George laughed.

"That's not funny," Percy said, frowning.

"It's okay, she's happier to see me now." Harry smiled.

"I bet," Charlie said.

"In nine months or so, she probably won't be," Bill mumbled.

"What?" Harry stiffened as the pieces started to click together. "You mean-"

"Harry."

Ginny walked into the living room. Her eyes seemed darker in her pale face. He was on his feet and across the room in the span of a breath. "Are you okay?"

"Let's go home," she whispered as he wrapped an arm around her shoulders.

"Of course." Maybe they should go to St. Mungo's before they go home. He watched her purse her lips.

"Actually, let me talk to my mum for a second." She hurried into her parents' bedroom before he could say anything.

Hermione walked past him on the way to the couch, but he stopped her. "Is she okay?" Ginny looked so pale.

A small smile slipped onto Hermione's lips. "She's fine." She patted him on the shoulder then walked past to sit beside Ron.

He wasn't getting anything from her. He'd have to wait until he had a moment with Ginny. He could do it. He could be patient.

A few minutes later, Ginny came out of the bedroom with tears in her eyes. His heart dropped. She was crying. Why was she crying?

"Ginny-"

She shook her head and dragged him to the door. "Bye! See you Sunday!" She called over her shoulder. Then they were out of the house, outside the wards. She grabbed his hand, wand in her other, and they side-apparated home.

*

Ginny's heart pounded as they walked into their home. She paused in the entranceway, watching him close the door and lean back against it. His eyes were shadows in the unlit room. She swallowed down her nerves.

"Ginny," he paused, looking down at the floor. He took a deep breath and glanced at the living room. She followed his gaze. There was an unopened letter from Teddy on the coffee table. He'd received it before they left this morning. For the briefest of moments, she wanted to tell him to read it, write back. Stall. But she couldn't. She wrung her hands.

He exhaled again. "Ginny, talk to me."

Her mouth opened than closed. She could do this. "I - remember how I was sick last week?" She licked her lips.

He nodded, grabbing her hand and leading her to the couch. "Are you okay?"

"I'll be sick for a while, Harry." How could this have happened? It wasn't terrible, of course, but it wasn't planned. Things were finally settling down. The pieces of her life were coming together.

His eyes widened under his glasses, and his hold on her hands tightened. "Ginny." He gulped. "We need to go see a healer."

Wait. She wasn't doing this right. Just tell him, you coward. When had this become her? Regrow your backbone. You've faced danger and stood tall. She straightened her back and took a deep breath. "Harry, I'm pregnant."

He froze.

Time ticked away as he stared at her. Shock? She pursed her lips. "Harry, say something."

He blinked at her words.

"Harry?" Her heart was pounding. Dread rose in her. Or it might be the potion Audrey gave her in the bathroom.

His mouth opened but nothing came out.

Her heart dropped, and she felt the tears again. Merlin. She'd been crying all day already. "You're upset," she said. "I- I know it's sudden and we didn't plan this but..." But what could she say? What if he didn't want this baby? Maybe this was the one thing that was too much? First Fyrefox and now this? What if this was the weight that collapsed the broomstick? A tear slid down her cheek.

"Ginny! Don't cry," he finally said, reaching forward and wiping it away.

She turned away, holding back the sob on the tip of her tongue. He didn't want this baby.

He got up from the couch and dropped to his knees before her. "Talk to me."

"You don't want it," she whispered. How stupid of her to think that he could continue to take every surprise she threw at him. This was all too much.

"What?"

She got to her feet quickly, and he fell back onto the floor. She looked down at him, her heart breaking. "You didn't say anything."

He straightened to his feet, grabbing her arm as she turned to the door. "Where're you going?"

She wiped away a stray, treacherous tear. "I'm going back to the Burrow."

"What? Why?"

"I just - I'm going home."

"Home? You are home." He turned her to him. "Ginny."

She couldn't meet his eyes.

"I- I was shocked. I'm sorry." He gripped her shoulders. "Of course I want this baby! It's our baby." He looked down at her still flat abdomen, wonder spreading across his face. "You're pregnant with our baby."

She blinked.

A smile grew on his lips. "We're having a baby."

Now, she smiled, and if she could, she'd probably sing too. He was happy about the baby. He wanted the baby. "Yes," she said.

"We're having a baby," he repeated.

She laughed. "Yeah." Of course he'd want the baby. Harry always wanted a family. She knew that. She did.

"We're having a baby!" He lifted her off her feet, spinning her. "A baby Potter."

She laughed again.

Then he instantly put her down on her feet, eyes wide. "You're having a baby. You- we- you need to sit down." He led her back to the couch.

Her smile rivaled the sun, she was sure of it. "I'm not made of glass."

"I love you," he said reverently.

"I love you too."

"A baby," he said with a goofy smile as he touched her abdomen with the tips of his fingers. "That was what your brothers were saying."

"What?"

"They suspected you were pregnant when Audrey and Hermione followed you into the bathroom. They were hinting at it after I told them you'd been sick last week."

She laughed. "Of course they'd think so." She caressed his cheek. "Audrey ran some quick, easy tests and says I'm about ten-eleven weeks but that we should definitely go to St. Mungo's next week to see her."

He sat beside her with a huge smile. "We'll be married at the end of the month, and in about seven and a half months or so, we'll have a baby." He exhaled, leaning his head back against the couch.

"You ready?" she asked.

"I'm always ready."

She laughed again. "I knew you'd say that."

And with that, ALL IN BAD COMPANY comes to an end. I hope you enjoyed this short story with Ginny reunited with her family and there will be a new addition not too long in the future! <3

As to the wedding, that will be in the book of one-shots, BAD FAMILY. However, that won't be up for a little bit. There's still Jack Times and Jackson Sharp's story to be told. It'll take place in America (YAY!) and will deal with someone from the President's and Jack's past. So, keep a lookout for that.

And thank you, all of you, for your patience and support for me and for this story/series. With life as crazy as it is, I'm trying and you're always waiting for me. So, thank you, thank you, and thank you! More in the BAD series to come.
