4 | Announcement
Ginny stood just inside the living room, wringing her hands. Her heart pounded, and she felt foolish. This was her family, for Merlin's sake. They'd be over the bloody moon that she was marrying Harry. She pulled on her collar.
Harry grabbed her hand and squeezed, shooting her a smile.
Smiling back, she said loudly to her family, "Harry and I have an announcement."
"You're pregnant!" George said, eyes wide.
Ginny laughed. "No, no."
George tilted his head, shadows of circles under his eyes. His eyes narrowed as his gaze shot towards Harry. "Oh! I get it." He held up a finger then pointed at him. "Harry's pregnant."
The entire living room burst into laughter, and Ginny's heart squeezed. George. Merlin, her brother, George. Even suffering, he could still bring a smile and laughter to others' lives, her life. She missed him and all of them so much.
"No, we're getting married." She bumped her shoulder against Harry's and smiled at her family.
There were a lot of hugs, and everyone talked at once. There was so much love. She was humbled by it. She's been worried for no reason. They were happy for them.
"I knew it would happen," George said.
"I knew it when they first started dating," Charlie added.
"I knew it when she became obsessed with him." Ron snickered.
"Shut up, will you?" Ginny told them, pulling on her collar again as she started to feel clammy.
"Congratulations," Bill said, ruffling her hair and slapping Harry's back.
She pushed his hand away, flattening her hair with a pout.
"Oui, congratulations." Fleur hugged Ginny, and her hair tickled her nose. "You are lucky to 'ave a good man 'ere."
She shot Harry a look and caught a slight flush to his cheeks as he ruffled his hair. She grinned, but Fleur was right. Well, almost. He wasn't a good man, he was the best. The best for her. Just for her. She squeezed his hand. "I know."
"Welcome to the family, Harry!" Her mum wrapped them both in her arms. "I'm so happy!" Her body shook as she cried.
"Thanks, Mrs. Weasley," Harry said softly, and Ginny met his gaze over her mum's head. He looked so happy. She understood it. She felt it.
"Molly, you're choking them," her dad said, chuckling, but his eyes weren't entirely dry themselves.
Her mum let them go, but then her eyes widened. "Oh no!"
"What's wrong?" Ginny asked, while everyone turned to her mum.
"I'm nowhere near prepared for a wedding!"
Everyone laughed.
"Mum, it's fine," Ginny told her. "It's going to be small. Just the family. A few friends."
Charlie's eyebrows rose. "Just the family? This is The-Boy-Who-Lived we're talking about here. The world will want to be part of it."
"Doesn't mean it's going to happen." Ginny shrugged. She didn't want anyone else there but those she and Harry cared about. The world can deal with it.
"I have done more than enough for the world," Harry said. "This is about Ginny and me. And our family and friends. That's all."
Love filled her.
"There's so much to do!" Her mum covered her mouth.
"It's fine, Mum. Really." Ginny hugged her, smiling. A big wedding had never been part of her plan. Just Harry, since she was old enough to understand what a wedding was. Harry. Her smile grew.
"Why not do it by the end of the month?" Charlie asked. "If you want it quick and while we're all still together. I head back to Romania in a month, and that'll also give you enough time to reach out to those who you want there."
A month? Ginny's heart sped up. So soon?
Harry's hand landed on her back and she glanced over. "Whatever you want," he said softly.
She pursed her lips then nodded.
"Oh! I have so much to do!" her mum said, turning and leaving the living room.
"We're getting married at the end of the month," Ginny whispered and exhaled.
Everyone went back to what they were doing, sitting on the couches, chatting, playing with the children. Harry pulled her over to the empty end of one of the couches.
"Scared?" He teased.
Her smile grew. "Never." Then she cuddled close and added, "I've been waiting to marry you since I was ten."
He pushed up his glasses, chuckling. "Minus a few years in between."
"That's the thing," she started. "I've always wanted you, but I was so... so angry and hurt and just over everything , I didn't know what I wanted." She met his eyes through his lens. "But it's always been you."
He didn't speak, simply leaned over and brushed a soft kiss against her lips. There were a few groans, but she ignored them.
"I can't wait to marry you," Harry whispered against her lips. She smiled. "It's going to be a long month."
She laughed. "But a great one. You've already started your training with Robards, so the Head Auror position is close at hand, and then you'll be married."
"Happily married," he pointed out then sighed. "At least I'll be happy about one of those things."
She flicked his forehead, and he cursed, covering the spot with his hand. "Harry."
"That hurt," he mumbled. "I don't deserve the position."
"Of course you do," Hermione said from the floor, where Ginny had assumed she was deep in though playing wizarding chess with Ron.
"You caught Fyrefox," Ron added.
He caught Fyrefox alright. Ginny bit the inside of her cheek to keep from laughing. What would the world think if they knew the truth? That Harry, Head Auror-in-training, not only didn't arrest the real Fyrefox, but was, in fact, going to marry her in less than a month?
People could be so clueless.
"That was my job," Harry told them, caressing Ginny's arm.
"And you ended the Second Wizarding War," Bill piped up. He bounced Dominique on his knees, and she giggled, soft blond curls jumping.
"But I didn't, I only stopped Voldemort."
"Non." Fleur shook her head. "No one but you could 'ave done zat, 'Arry."
Harry sighed, and she fought down the smile. He'd never believe the truth about himself. To the world, he was a hero. To himself...
"You're an excellent choice for the Head Auror," Percy agreed.
A wide grin shot across George's face. "At least I know who to owl when I get into too much trouble."
"Ignore him," Angelina said.
"Head Auror, Harry Potter." Ginny smiled. She'd never get used to it. "My fiance is the Head Auror."
The wide smile that formed on his lips made her heart skip a beat. "Yes he is," Harry said.
"I've obviously gone mad," she whispered. "There goes the most interesting thing about me. Overshadowed by the spotlight. Yuck."
"You're the one that said yes."
She exhaled. "Yes, well, it couldn't be helped. I just love you too much."
The crooked grin took her breath away.
"So what're you going to do now?" Hermione asked after Ron's queen to her bishop.
"I've been training for the Holyhead Harpies, but when I spoke to the manager, she said it if I still had it, there wouldn't be much to worry about." Ginny pinched her bottom lip. She was still nervous, though. It was a real, good, honest job. There would be no Knockturn Alley visits if she became a quidditch player.
"What?" All the boys cried.
Ginny laughed.
"Ginny's going pro!" Harry shook his fist. "Destroy those other teams!"
Ron's eyes widened. "A quidditch player? I didn't expect that!"
She rolled her eyes.
"How could you not?" Hermione spoke up as her knight took out his pawn. "Ginny was one of the best chasers at Hogwarts."
"Yeah, but that was ages ago!" Ron stared at Ginny. "How do you know you've got what it takes?"
She snorted. "Please. Talent never goes away." She winked then pulled at her collar again. Merlin. She took a deep breath.
"Don't start with that," Ron told her. "You haven't trained in a long time."
"Oh, please." She shook her head. "You should have seen me months back when I got around-" Harry covered her mouth.
"When you got around what?" Charlie asked, red eyebrows furrowed.
"Don't just stop there!" George cried. "Keep going."
"Last year? Where were you?" Percy asked.
"Oops," Ginny whispered. She'd almost slipped.
Harry glared at her. "You did that on purpose," he whispered back.
She shook her head but stopped when she grew light-headed and her felt ice cold. She blinked a few times then bile rose up her throat.
"What were you-" Bill started, Ginny jumped to her feet and covered her mouth.
"Ginny?" Harry got up too.
Her heart pounded. She was going to be sick. Oh Merlin. She ran for the bathroom.
"Ginny!" Harry called, but she was up the stairs and running for the bathroom, slamming the door behind her.
