Chapter 41
Hoseok arrived at Seokjin's apartment, his heart heavy with concern. He had heard from a mutual friend about the fight between Jung-eon and his classmates, and he knew that Seokjin would be struggling to cope with the situation.
As he approached the apartment door, Hoseok could hear faint sounds of sobbing coming from inside. He knocked gently and waited for a response. After a moment, the door creaked open, revealing Seokjin with tear-stained cheeks and red-rimmed eyes. He looked up at Hoseok, his expression a mix of sadness and despair.
"Hoseok," Seokjin murmured, his voice choking with emotion.
Hoseok stepped into the apartment, gently closing the door behind him. He placed a comforting hand on Seokjin's shoulder and led him towards the couch.
"What happened, Seokjin?" Hoseok asked softly, as he settled Seokjin onto the couch.Seokjin took a deep breath, trying to compose himself. "Jung-eon... he fought with some of his classmates today," he said, his voice trembling. "They were bullying him for not having a father."Hoseok's heart sank. He knew that Seokjin had been sensitive about this issue for a long time, and the bullying must have been a terrible blow.
"I got so angry with him," Seokjin confessed, tears welling up in his eyes again. "I yelled at him, told him that fighting was never the answer. But I know I was wrong. I should have been more understanding."Hoseok nodded empathetically. "It's okay to feel angry, Seokjin," he said reassuringly. "You're a parent, and you want to protect your son. But it's also important to remember that Jung-eon is a growing boy, and he's going to make mistakes. The important thing is that you're there for him, to guide him and help him learn from them."
Seokjin wiped away a tear that rolled down his cheek. "I know," he said. "I just feel like I'm failing him as a father. I'm not there for him enough."Hoseok shook his head. "Don't say that, Seokjin," he said firmly. "You're an amazing father. You've done everything you can to provide for Jung-eon and give him a good life. And you're always there for him, even if it doesn't always seem like it."
Hoseok paused, then continued, "But I also think it's essential to remember that you need to take care of yourself too, Seokjin. You can't pour from an empty cup. If you're not taking care of your own emotional needs, it's going to be difficult to be there for Jung-eon the way he needs you."
Seokjin nodded thoughtfully. "I know you're right," he said. "I just need to figure out how to balance everything."
Hoseok smiled gently. "You'll find a way, Seokjin," he said confidently. "You're a strong and capable person. And I'll be here to support you every step of the way."Hoseok's words of encouragement brought a small measure of comfort to Seokjin's heart. He knew that he couldn't face this situation alone, and he was grateful for Hoseok's unwavering support.
He stood outside Jung-eon's room, gently knocking on the door. Furthermore, he could hear the faint sniffles coming from inside, indicating that the young boy was still upset about the earlier argument with his Appa.
Hoseok knew that Jung-eon was a sensitive child, and the bullying incident at school had undoubtedly taken a toll on him. He also knew that Jung-eon had a sweet tooth, and his favorite treat was cookie and cream ice cream. With a mischievous grin, Hoseok decided to use Jung-eon's love for ice cream to his advantage.
He cleared his throat and spoke in a cheerful voice, "Jung-eon, I have a surprise for you!"
Jung-eon's sniffling stopped abruptly, and a flicker of curiosity crossed his face. "What is it?" he asked hesitantly."I have a tub of your favorite ice cream," Hoseok teased. "Cookie and cream, just the way you like it."
Jung-eon's eyes widened, and his anger momentarily melted away. "Really?" he asked, his voice filled with excitement.
"Yup," Hoseok confirmed. "But there's one catch."Jung-eon's excitement turned to suspicion. "What catch?" he asked warily.
"I'll only give you the ice cream if you let me talk to you," Hoseok bargained.
Jung-eon hesitated for a moment, his mind torn between his love for ice cream and his lingering resentment towards his Appa. But the temptation of the ice cream was too strong to resist. With a sigh of defeat, he opened the door, revealing his tear-stained face and red-rimmed eyes.
"Fine," he grumbled.
Hoseok smiled warmly and stepped into the room, closing the door behind him. He held up the tub of ice cream triumphantly. "Here you go, young man," he said.Jung-eon's eyes lit up, and he snatched the tub of ice cream from Hoseok's hands. He immediately opened it and dug in, savoring the sweet, creamy goodness.
Hoseok watched Jung-eon enjoy his ice cream, a fond smile playing on his lips. He knew that Jung-eon was still upset, but he also knew that the ice cream would help to soothe his wounded feelings.
Once Jung-eon had finished his ice cream, Hoseok sat down next to him on the bed. "Jung-eon, I know you're upset about what happened today," he said gently. "But I want you to know that it's okay to feel angry or sad sometimes."
Jung-eon nodded silently, his gaze fixed on the empty ice cream tub.Hoseok continued, "I also want you to know that I'm always here for you, no matter what. If you ever need someone to talk to, I'll be there to listen."
Jung-eon looked up at Hoseok, his eyes filled with a mix of sadness and gratitude. "Thank you, Uncle Hoseok," he whispered.
Hoseok smiled warmly and gave Jung-eon a hug. "You're welcome, buddy," he said. "Now, let's go watch some cartoons and forget about all this."Jung-eon nodded eagerly, and Hoseok led him out of the room. As they settled onto the couch to watch cartoons, Jung-eon's anger and sadness began to fade away, replaced by a sense of comfort and security. He knew that he could always count on Hoseok to be there for him, and that was all that mattered.
Seokjin watched his son, Jung-eon, happily engrossed in his cartoon and devouring a plate of fast food. A mixture of emotions stirred within him, a blend of exasperation and concern. Jung-eon's unhealthy eating habits were a constant source of worry, and the sight of him indulging in yet another fast food meal ignited a spark of anger in Seokjin.
He turned to Hoseok, Jung-eon's father, his expression clouded with disapproval. "Hoseok, why are you allowing Jung-eon to eat this junk food again? You know it's not good for him," he scolded, his voice laced with frustration.
Hoseok, however, met Seokjin's gaze with a calm demeanor. "Jung-eon has been feeling down, and I thought a little comfort food might cheer him up," he explained gently.Seokjin's anger subsided momentarily, replaced by a pang of sympathy for his son. He understood Jung-eon's sadness; life had been challenging lately, and the boy was struggling to cope with the changes. However, he couldn't ignore the detrimental effects of Jung-eon's unhealthy diet.
"I know you're trying to be a good uncle, Hoseok," Seokjin said, softening his tone, "but we need to find a healthier way to help Jung-eon deal with his emotions. Fast food is not the answer."Hoseok nodded in agreement. "I know, Seokjin. I've been trying to encourage Jung-eon to make better food choices, but it's been a struggle. He's not always receptive to my suggestions."Hoseok placed a hand on Seokjin's shoulder, offering a reassuring smile. "We'll figure this out together. We're a family, and we'll support Jung-eon through this."
With renewed determination, Seokjin and Hoseok decided to approach Jung-eon together, offering him understanding and support while gently guiding him towards healthier eating habits.
