Chapter 40
Seokjin's heart pounded as he received the call from the school principal. Jung-eon was in trouble again, and this time it was serious. Apparently, he had been involved in a fight with another student, and the other student's parent had filed a complaint.
Seokjin felt a surge of anger and disappointment. He had been working so hard to help Jung-eon manage his emotions and deal with conflict healthily, and it seemed like all his efforts were going to waste.
He rushed to the school, his mind racing with questions and worries. What had happened? How serious was the fight? What would the consequences be?
When he arrived at the principal's office, he found Jung-eon sitting there, looking dejected. The principal greeted him with a grim expression.
"Mr. Seokjin," the principal began, "I'm afraid we have a serious issue to discuss."
Seokjin braced himself for the worst.
"Jung-eon has been involved in a physical altercation with another student," the principal continued. "The other student's parent has filed a formal complaint, and we're taking this matter very seriously."
Seokjin's heart sank. He had hoped that this wouldn't happen.
"I'm so sorry," Seokjin said, his voice filled with regret. "I don't know what happened, but I'm sure Jung-eon didn't mean to hurt anyone."
The principal nodded. "I understand that you're concerned," he said. "But we need to follow school policy. Jung-eon will be facing disciplinary action."
Seokjin's mind reeled. What would the disciplinary action be? Would Jung-eon be suspended? Expelled?
"What's going to happen to him?" Seokjin asked anxiously.
The principal hesitated for a moment, then said, "I can't say for sure at this time. We need to conduct a thorough investigation and speak to all the parties involved. But I can assure you that Jung-eon's actions will not be taken lightly."
Seokjin felt a knot tighten in his stomach. He knew that Jung-eon had made a mistake, but he didn't want him to suffer any more than he already was.
"I'll do whatever it takes to help Jung-eon learn from this," Seokjin promised. "I'll make sure he gets the help he needs to manage his anger and deal with conflict in a constructive way."
The principal nodded. "That's the best course of action," he said. "We want to help Jung-eon too. But he needs to understand that his actions have consequences."
Seokjin left the principal's office feeling defeated and disheartened. He knew that he had a lot of work to do to help Jung-eon get back on track. But he was determined to do whatever it took to help his son.
Jung-eon was walking home from school when he was cornered by a group of his classmates. They had been bullying him for months, calling him names and making fun of him for not having a father.
This time, the bullies were more aggressive than usual. They pushed Jung-eon to the ground and started kicking him. Jung-eon tried to fight back, but he was no match for the group of them.
One of the bullies picked up a rock and threatened to throw it at Jung-eon's head. Jung-eon was scared, but he didn't want to give in to the bullies. He stood up and faced them, trying to look brave.
The bullies laughed at Jung-eon's defiance. They told him that he was nothing without a father to protect him. Jung-eon felt a surge of anger. He knew that he couldn't let the bullies get away with this anymore.
Jung-eon lunged at the bullies, knocking one of them to the ground. The other bullies were caught off guard. They didn't expect Jung-eon to fight back.
Jung-eon fought with all his might. He punched and kicked the bullies, and he didn't stop until they were all on the ground.
The bullies were shocked and scared. They didn't understand how Jung-eon could be so strong. They scrambled to their feet and ran away.
Jung-eon stood there, breathing heavily. He looked down at his hands, which were bruised and bloody. He had never fought back before, but he knew that he had to this time.
Seokjin was furious when he heard about the fight from the principal. He rushed home to confront Jung-eon, his anger boiling over.
"Jung-eon, how could you do this?" Seokjin shouted, his voice trembling with rage. "Fighting is never the answer! You could have gotten hurt!"
Jung-eon hung his head, his eyes filled with tears. He knew that he had made a mistake, but he didn't understand why his Appa was so angry.
"I'm so sorry, Appa," Jung-eon mumbled. "I just couldn't take it anymore. They were always picking on me, calling me names..."
Seokjin cut him off. "That's no excuse to fight!" he roared. "There are other ways to deal with bullies. You should have come to me!"
Jung-eon felt a surge of resentment. He didn't want to talk to his Appa about his problems. He felt like his Appa wouldn't understand.
"You don't understand, Appa!" Jung-eon shouted back. "They were making fun of me for not having a father!"
Seokjin froze, his heart pounding in his chest. He knew that Jung-eon's words were true, and they cut him to the core.
Seokjin turned away from Jung-eon and stormed off to his room. He slammed the door shut and locked it behind him, collapsing onto the bed and burying his face in his pillow.
Seokjin felt a mix of emotions swirling within him: anger, disappointment, and guilt. He was angry at Jung-eon for fighting, but he was also disappointed in himself for not being there for his son when he needed him most.
Seokjin knew that he had to apologize to Jung-eon. He had to make things right between them. But he also knew that he needed time to process his own emotions first.
As Seokjin lay there in his room, he thought about all the sacrifices he had made for Jung-eon. He had worked hard to provide for him, to give him a good life. But he realized that he had neglected his son's emotional needs.
Seokjin promised himself that he would do better in the future. He would be there for Jung-eon, no matter what, become strong for his son.
"I'm sorry Jung-eon, your Appa is a coward."
