"Do you know her?" Jungkook looked away from the city lights and sipped his beer, following Taehyung's gaze. "No" on the neighboring terrace, on the ledge of the railing, sat a girl with headphones and her head, hugging her knees, lying on her hands, but looking in the other direction. Jungkook raised an eyebrow, looked down the eight floors and then back at her.
"I didn't know they already had the other apartment, I thought I'd take it" Jungkook almost burst out laughing. "We both know these apartments don't fit your idea of 'home,' Tae" Taehyung took an offended breath, glancing over his shoulder at Jungkook's apartment, but then dropped it and nodded. "Right, who only lives in two rooms" he shook his head and leaned against the railing next to Jungkook.
"Do you think she has a boyfriend? Does she live alone?" Jungkook looked at the girl again and shrugged. "I just found out about her existence hyung, but I promise if I ever talk to her, I'll ask her" Jungkook mumbled and turned back to the view of the city. "Or I'll just try it myself" Taehyung grinned and Jungkook watched with a raised eyebrow as he headed inside and through the small living room to the apartment's front door.
He waited curiously and after a few seconds he heard the doorbell from the neighboring apartment, watching the girl's reaction. However, there was no reaction. A minute later, Taehyung came back with a disappointed expression and glared at her. "Did she do it on purpose?" he huffed and Jungkook rolled his eyes. Taehyung wasn't a man used to being overlooked by women, and the girl's disregard hit his ego like a hammer to a nail.
"I don't think she even realized you rang the doorbell" Jungkook pointed to his ear and Taehyung gasped, nodding knowingly. "Of course, but I'm an idiot" Jungkook preferred not to comment on the statement. Taehyung almost laid on top of him, waving his arms. "What exactly are you doing hyung?" he growled and Taehyung looked at him like he was crazy. "I'm trying to get her attention, of course, what else?" he raised his eyebrows and Jungkook rolled his eyes.
There were times when Jungkook wondered which of the two was older. Taehyung often acted childish, doing things like trying to get the attention of a girl who was clearly looking the other way by waving his arms, almost hanging off the terrace, threatening to drag Jungkook down too if he flew head first. "Oh, I know what to do!" Taehyung flew back into Jungkook's apartment and returned only a second later, a new beer in one hand and a cap in the other.
Grinning from ear to ear at Jungkook's skeptical gaze, he pushed him aside, taking his spot on the side of the adjacent terrace and struck a baseball player pose, tossing his cap. Jungkook almost gasped when the cap didn't even reach the terrace, but flew ingloriously down. "Shit" Taehyung grunted in frustration and started looking around.
"Hyung, I don't like the way you look" Jungkook followed Taehyung again, who grinned even wider and stormed into the room again, returning with one of the fireproof cooking gloves, waving it in front of Jungkook's face in triumph. Then he assumed the previous position, licked his index finger, raising it in the air, checking the air currents, and threw the glove hard, which safely landed on the back of the girl, who raised her head in shock and turned in their direction.
Her eyes widened in surprise, her eyebrows shot up almost to the edge of her hair, and she looked first at Taehyung, who was waving as if in some kind of parade, and then at Jungkook, who was helplessly rubbing his face, shaking his head as if he'd witnessed some feline madness, which only the animal could understand or explain, but naturally he would not get a piece of the meaning of the action.
The girl moved her gaze back to Taehyung, rolled her eyes and easily jumped off the ledge, crouching down, she picked up the glove that had fallen on her terrace, picked it up with two fingers and looked at it from all sides, then looked at Taehyung again. Jungkook could almost read her mind. "Hey hello!" Taehyung's singing voice sounded flirtatious and the girl tilted her head slightly, looking at Jungkook, who could only smile apologetically.
"Hyung, you do realize this is my neighbor?" Jungkook asked quietly and Taehyung looked over his shoulder. "What, do you want her?" he raised his eyebrows in surprise and Jungkook rested his chin on his chest, shaking his head. "That's not what I said hyung, I mean I'll take the shame of your idiotic behavior" he hissed softly and Taehyung blinked in confusion. "I don't know what you're talking about!" he exclaimed and Jungkook sighed in defeat. "Of course not" he looked up at the girl again, but the terrace was already empty and thank God.
"Great, you scared her!" Jungkook stared at him dumbfounded. "I should..." the front doorbell cut him off and Jungkook raised an eyebrow, leaving his beer on the small table in his combo living room, walking towards the door. He looked back at Taehyung's excited face, wordlessly warning him not to act like a rabid dog if it was the girl, and opened the door.
"I believe this is yours?" Jungkook blinked against the glove in front of his face, then cocked his head to the side, meeting bottomless hazel eyes that looked him up and down curiously. "Yes, sorry, my friend is on the eve of puberty" he apologized and heard an incredible, probably the most hearty laugh that can be found among records of ear caressing melodies.
"It's fine, but if his puberty is progressing, I know some very good psychologists who know how to knock sense into someone's head" Jungkook blinked, then burst out laughing. "That was good!" he took the glove and the girl pulled away, as if worried that he might touch her, which somewhat killed the emotion. "I'm Jungkook" he held out his hand, which she looked at timidly. "Mei-Lin" she bowed slightly, but didn't take the hand, which made the situation even more awkward, and she shifted slightly from foot to foot, blushing.
And since they were both no longer uncomfortable enough in the sudden silence, Taehyung decided to step in, like the packet of salt you drop in your food and then curse as you toss the newly cooked nonentity into the trash. "Who is it, Jungkook?" he trotted up behind him, giving himself the look of an innocently unsuspecting cartoon character, his glittering puppy eyes dangling from behind Jungkook's shoulder.
"Severe form?" Jungkook rolled his eyes and Mei-Lin snorted. "What can I say, I'm waiting for medicine to advance to give him as a test bunny" she giggled and Jungkook smiled. "What are you talking about, I'm Taehyung, by the way, do you have a boyfriend?" Jungkook almost pushed Taehyung off his back. "Like I said, I won't mind a few numbers" Taehyung looked at them curiously, shifting his gaze from the girl to Jungkook's profile.
"I want your number too?" Taehyung unceremoniously pushed Jungkook away and leaned against the doorframe, striking a pose he clearly thought was sexy. "Yeah...that won't do" Jungkook burst out laughing, slapping his hips, and Mei-Lin nodded her head slightly, winking at him. "It was nice guys, but it's getting late and I have to get up early tomorrow, so...I'll see you around" she smiled and turned to leave. "Definitely" Taehyung didn't let himself be dismissed so easily. "Maybe next time we'll have a drink and give me your number?" he flashed his boxy smile.
She stopped and examined him thoroughly, biting her lower lip, which made him pouting like a love-dove. "I'm sorry, but you're just not my type" Jungkook could almost hear the pedestal Taehyung had placed his flirtatious skills on cracked and shattered into a billion and one pieces and his smile melted away like the first snowflakes in December.
Mei-Lin waved them over and both of them bent their heads forward, watching as she closed the door to her apartment. "She just cut me off, didn't she?" Taehyung muttered, his face showing that he was amazed to the core. "No doubt she clipped your wings right through your ankles and then plucked your feather and made a pillow out of it" Jungkook chuckled and pulled him back into his apartment, closing the door.
