Chapter 6
Simon woke up when he heard a loud thump and a shattering sound. He shot up, not realizing that Jace was still in his lap, which resulted in him stubbing his toe on the coffee table while Jace fell onto the floor with a yelp. Becky opened her eyes sleepily. "Where's the fire?" she asked, her voice groggy. Jace rubbed his head and Simon cursed out loud, holding his toe. "Jordan?" he asked, looking at the door, where the man stood, holding a paper bag that had ripped half-way. The contents was on the floor and Simon spotted some glass shards. Ah, so that's what made the noise. "Fuck! I'm sorry, the paper just gave in!" Jordan exclaimed. Becky was still rubbing her eyes but Simon set his foot down and kneeled next to Jace. "You okay? I totally forgot you were there." Simon said and then smacked his forehead, realizing how that sounded. "Great. Good to know that I'm forgettable." Jace grumbled, getting up and sitting on the couch.
Not really thinking about it, Simon leaned down and kissed his cheek. "Oh, stop being such a baby." he said and then looked back at Jordan. He didn't notice how Jace smiled happily and how his hand went to his cheek, where Simon's lips had been. "Let me help you. What was this, anyway?" Simon asked, rushing over to Jordan's side to avert Becky's smiling gaze as she looked at him and Jace. Jordan picked up the larger pieces while Simon got out the vacuum. "Oh, just some of Maia's cooking in a glass container she gave to me. Thought you might want her lasagna." Jordan announced pitifully, when Simon had cleaned the mess. After staring at the remains of the lasagna, mourning, Simon cleaned it up. They went to the living room and Jordan greeted Becky with a hug. "Hi, Jordan! It's been too long." she said and Jordan nodded. "Hey, Becks. Nice to see you. Jace, right?" Jordan said, turning to the blonde who shook his hand, smiling. Jordan gave Simon a knowing glance, which the other ignored and then stretched himself.
"Alright, I need to make a couple of phone calls. Becky, why don't you help Jordan with dinner and Jace, I'll walk you out." Simon said sternly, looking at his sister. Becky nodded and smiled at the blonde. "Bye, Jace. It was very nice to meet you. I'll see you around." she said, winking at him and then smirked at Simon. She grabbed Jordan's hand and moved them towards the kitchen, while Simon went around the table to Jace. "Sorry to cut this short, but I've really got some things I need to take care of." Simon said, apologetic. Jace shrugged his shoulders, smiling at him. "It's fine. Just promise that we'll have another date?" he asked, hopeful. Simon laughed. "This was a date? All we did was nap." he replied. Jace moved closer to him and Simon's heart beat so fast that he was afraid it might break. The blonde kissed his forehead and Simon felt like melting into a puddle. "My kind of date. But I want to take you out on dinner. Sunday good?" Jace said and Simon noticed he had set one of his hands on Simon's hips. He gulped.
"Um, sure. Sunday's good." he said, trying not to blush, when Jace's eyes bored into him with intensity he hadn't felt in a long time. How did he manage to make him so shy all the time? Jace's face came closer and he pulled Simon's body against his own, making Simon's breath hitch. Jace leaned down and kissed his jawline. "I'll pick you up at 7." he said in a way that was not supposed to be sensual but somehow, Jace made it so. Simon felt himself stir and he stopped picturing Jace naked on his couch. "Right. Okay." he said quickly, and started pushing Jace out the door and the room. The blonde laughed and before Simon could close the door, Jace grabbed his arm and pulled Simon towards him, making the brunette almost fall into his arms. Jace's lips were on him for just a brief moment, but the heat behind it was incredible. When Jace pulled back, his eyes were burning. "Bye, Simon." he said and walked off, leaving Simon admire him from behind. Damn, Jace had a nice ass.
"Well, he's the sexiest person on the planet, I can tell you that." Becky said, startling Simon. "Jesus, way to be creepy!" he said half-shouting, pressing a hand to his chest, when his sister was standing right behind him. Becky laughed, but looped their arms together when they went into the kitchen, where Jordan was making pasta. "So, you guys dating?" Jordan asked, wiggling his eyebrows. "What? No." Simon said, his voice revealing a panic. Becky laughed again. "Didn't seem like it. Seemed like he wanted to rip your clothes off and-" she said but Jordan put his hands on his ears. "LALALA NO I CANT HEAR YOU!" he shouted and Simon rolled his eyes, while Becky laughed so hard, she fell off the stool and that, in turn, made Simon laugh. Soon, Becky was on the floor in a ball, laughing like crazy, and Jordan and Simon were both tearing up at the sight.

"Thanks, Alec. We can meet up tomorrow. Clary will be there, too. Yes, you can let Magnus stay, if you want, but Becks won't be happy about it. No, don't tell Isabelle, I already told Clary that she can't know, the less people involved, the better. Yeah, okay. See you." Simon ended the call and looked at Becky, who was sitting at the edge of his bed. "Well, we'll meet with Clary and Alec tomorrow and sort this out. I called mum, too. She was very excited to be here. Should arrive the day after tomorrow." he continued, taking out his earphones and plugging them into his phone. "Right." Becky said glumly. Simon gave her a look. "I still think we should've gone to get her ourselves instead of her taking the bus." she announced and Simon rolled his eyes. "You know mom, she'd know somethings up." he replied, sitting down on the bed and scrolling through the playlist.
Becky shrugged but wasn't convinced. Simon rolled onto the bed and scowled at her. "Becks, leave it. Now go to bed." he said, putting the earphones in and tuning out, letting his mind drift back to Jace. The blond boy was occupying his mind more and more, and he tried to shove the thoughts away, but after the day they had, Simon felt like his brain needed a break from all the blocking, and he let the dreamy mismatched eyes float into his conscious, while the music soothed his mind.
When he woke up, Becky was already out of bed. He scrambled up, too, finding some sweatpants to put on. When he padded to the kitchen, yawning, he noticed Becky making pancakes and listening to the radio. Just like old times, when they both were living with mom. He approached her, spotting the flour on the counter and mischievously took some of it, sneaking up on Becky. She was so occupied with singing, that she didn't notice him - not until Simon dumped the flour in her gorgeous locks and she screamed loudly. Simon fell into a fit of laughter, while she turned around, glaring at her. "Simon Lewis!" she screamed and Simon ducked when she flung the spatula at him, missing by an inch. It landed at Jordan's feet, who was looking at them in disbelief.
"Wow, you guys are such children." he said, taking a mineral water from the fridge. Simon laughed when Becky's face went red with anger. "Simon, I just washed my hair yesterday!" she yelled in frustration. "Oh come on, it was funny." Simon replied. Finally, Becky gave a small smile. "Mom always had her hands full with us, when we pulled stunts like this." she reminisced, shaking her head so the flour fell to the wooden floor. Simon came to the frying pan and flipped the cake by throwing it in the air. Jordan eyed them, thinking. "I bet. From what I've seen, Simon is a troublemaker." he said, smiling. Becky nodded, but Simon protested. "Becky was way worse. Mom used to say she was a she-devil." he announced, but Becky stuck her tongue at him. This made Jordan roll his eyes and raise his hands. "Leave me out of the Lewis family fights." he stated and went to the couch, clicking the TV on.
"When are we meeting Alec and Clary?" Becky asked, once she had gotten rid of the flour as much as she could. Simon put a new patch of pancake mix onto the pan and turned to his sister. "At 12. We're meeting at Magnus', it's safer there than outside somewhere. And mom texted me this morning, I'm going to pick her up from the station tomorrow." Simon replied and licked a little of the cake mix off the spoon. Becky grabbed it and gave him a shove. "Move. You always burn them." she said and Simon flipped her the bird.

When they got to Magnus', they were greeted by a smiling Clary, who was still wearing her cast. "Hey, come on in. We just made coffee. Becky! It's great to see you!" she exclaimed, moving in to hug Becky, who carefully hugged her back. "Hey, Clary! What happened there?" she greeted her and pointed at the crutches. Clary rolled her eyes and began explaining, while Simon eyed the tall and raven-haired boy next to the TV. Alec was having a conversation with Magnus and it seemed heated. "Magnus, come on. It's not that big of a deal." Alec was saying, while Magnus was standing, his arms crossed and his eyes angry. He was even pouting. "Sure, for you it's not. 'Cause you think he's just your friend!" Magnus replied angrily and Alec rolled his eyes. "He is! He just told me that I looked great in this jacket, and you're throwing a fit? Guys and girls compliment you all the time!" Alec said, exasperated. Magnus shook his head. "He was checking you out." he pouted and Alec threw his hands in the air in frustration.
"Hey, lovebirds." Simon commented, walking up to them and sitting on the armchair. "What's with the drama?" he asked and Magnus shot him a death glare. "Magnus, later." Alec warned and the older man conceded, but he let out an annoyed huff and sat down on the couch, glaring at Alec. "Oookay..." Simon dragged out, but Alec forced a smile. "Hey, Si." he greeted and sat next to Magnus, who shuffled as far away as possible from him. Alec rolled his eyes, but then Becky and Clary joined them. Becky set the coffee down and poured it out. When that was done, Clary smiled at them. "So, what's this about?" she asked.
Becky seemed nervous now and looked at Simon, pleading. He nodded. "Well, Becky and I have a problem. And we need your help." he started. Magnus seemed to forget his feud, because he stood to attention and Alec's eyes never left Simon as he spoke. Clary's eyes shifted from Becky to Simon and she looked terrified.
"And that's it." Simon finished. There was an eerie silence. "Of course I can lend you the money." Alec stated then, calmly. "You don't even know how much we need, I didn't mention it." Becky said, her eyes wide and surprised. Magnus shook his head. "He doesn't need to. Simon is like a brother to us, family. Which means so are you." he said and Alec nodded, smiling at her. Simon's heart warmed up, and he could've almost cried. What the fuck was up with him lately?
Clary was also nodding. "It's terrible...But of course we'll help. I'll talk to Luke. He won't say a word to anyone else, when I ask him to." she added, covering Becky's hand with hers. Magnus stood up and paced around. "But maybe this Lily was bluffing? Maybe you're mom isn't being watched at all anymore." he said. "But can we risk that?" Simon asked and Magnus nodded in understanding. "Right. You've got a point." he replied and stopped pacing. "So, first we need to talk to Luke, right? And then, I'll cash in a check at the bank." Alec was saying, but Simon was barely hearing them talk. He was so happy that he had friends like them. Becky was his sister, this was their problem, but here they all were, going out of their ways to help.
"Simon?" Magnus asked, setting a hand on his shoulder. He pulled himself back to the living room. "Right, yes. Good plan. Clary, can you set it up?" he asked, but Clary was already on the phone and she gave a thumbs up. Becky leaned in to Simon. "Thank you, little brother." she whispered and Simon smiled. "I think you should start calling me big brother from now on. After all, I'm the more responsible one." he said and Becky blushed, when she shoved his shoulder. Suddenly, Simon's phone started ringing. The caller I.D. said 'Jace'. He held up his finger to the others and he took the call. "Hey, what's up?" he asked casually, and ignored Magnus, who was mouthing 'Is it Jace?'.
"Hey, nothing. Just wanted to talk to you. You must be real tired, since you wouldn't stop running through my mind last night." Jace said smoothly and Simon snorted. "Does that ever work on anyone?" he asked and and Jace hummed. "I don't know, did it?" he asked and Simon could hear his smirk. "Definitely not." he replied, but his voice was amused. Clary rolled her eyes at him, but he turned his back to them all. "Fuck. Well, at least I got you to go out with me." Jace said, his voice now proud. Simon huffed a laugh. "Right, more like I felt sorry for you so I said yes." Simon answered cockily and he heard Jace laugh on the line. "Oh, babe. That's not how I remember it. You were pretty eager to jump me right there, judging by the body language." he said, his voice lower now and Simon felt a shiver run down his spine. "Is that so?" he said, his voice a little hoarse and he cursed himself. He bit his lip when Jace gave a lowly chuckle. "Mhmmm..." he hummed into the phone and Simon felt the sound go straight to his crotch.
"HEY JACE!" Magnus yelled suddenly, and Simon almost jumped, realizing they were all still there. He went red, but didn't turn around. "Magnus, shut up." he hissed, but Jace laughed. "I won't keep you. Can't wait for Sunday, Simon. I really can't wait." he said in a seductive tone before he hung up. Simon stared at the phone, realizing he hadn't said a word in minutes. "Judging by your face, Jace said something very indecent." Magnus stated, when Simon whirled around. He had a cat-like smirk on and the others were watching him as well, Alec had an amused smile playing on his lips, while Clary and Becky were trying not to laugh. "Oh, fuck off. Where were we?" Simon mumbled, sitting down. The rest of their meeting went by quickly. Clary had told Luke to meet them the same night, so they had some time to kill. Raising to their feet, Simon and Becky made their way to the door, Clary following. While Magnus was hugging Clary and Becky goodbye, talking something about going shopping, Simon took the chance to get Alec alone.
He hugged him, which he normally didn't do and Alec was so surprised, he didn't pull away. "Listen, I know Magnus is a handful. He just loves you so much and he's never been insecure, but with you he's different. And have some self-confidence, Alec. If Magnus says that guy was checking you out, he was. I know I would." Simon said quietly, ending his sentence with a wink, making Alec go red, but he stared at him thankfully. Magnus eyed Alec quizzically, but Simon just waved them bye, blowing a kiss to Magnus, who pretended to catch it, making Simon laugh while he hurried after the girls.

Luke Garroway was a very emphatic kind of guy. He loved his family and he cared for Clary like she was his own child. When Jocelyn and Luke finally married, Clary was happy to call Luke her dad. Right now, however, he was looking at them sternly, his eyes on Clary and he seemed very serious. Well, it was a serious matter. "I'm not sure what I can do here, unless you'll tell me exactly where Santiago is hiding his stash so we can take him in." Luke was saying. Becky shook her head. "He'll know it was me who ratted him out. Our mom..." she said but Luke cut in. "We can take your mother under protective custody." he said, sitting down behind his desk. It was late and he was the only one left in the office besides a few night shift guards.
Simon mulled it over. "I mean, that would get her out of being a target. And we can deal with Lily later, right now, Santiago is our priority. What do you know about him?" he turned to Luke, sitting on the edge of his desk. Clary was sitting opposite to Luke while Becky was standing next to her, biting her fingernails nervously. Luke shook his head, looking defeated. "Not much. The local police are not authorized to his case. It's more of a DEA and CIA business, since he owns the biggest drug cartel and as they put it 'they don't want us getting in the way of their work'." Luke scoffed and rolled his eyes. "They've been at it for years." he concluded and Becky nodded. "I remember when I...used to work for him." she stuttered a bit but mustered her strength. "He said that there were always eyes watching him but that he didn't care, 'cause he had friends not even we knew about. Only him. I'm pretty sure he has moles everywhere." she said and Luke nodded. "That's probably true, but again, it's not my jurisdiction to investigate. All I can do is take your mom under our protection and then we have to call them in. I might get fired if I pursue this on my own." Luke replied softly.
Clary nodded now, she'd been quiet the whole time. "Of course, we understand. Thanks, dad." she said and stood up, hugging the man. Simon smiled at Luke and shook his hand. "Thanks. Now we just have to figure out how to tell mom." He glanced at Becky, who looked defeated and terrified. "Hey, she'll understand." Simon said to her, smiling slightly. Becky didn't seem convinced, but Clary wrapped an arm around her. "Come on. Let's get back home." she said and they waved Luke goodbye. Clary told him to tell Jocelyn that she'd be staying at Simon's tonight, and they walked outside. Simon checked for messages and saw that their mom had texted him.
"I took an earlier bus because Jocelyn said that she wanted to catch up and gladly will let me stay for the night. I just got off from the bus in Brooklyn and am on my way there now. See you tomorrow, monkey, can't wait! Love, mom."
Simon smiled. "Hey, guys, wait up!" he said, running after the two girls, who had now stopped at the curb. "Hey, mom just texted- Becks?" Simon started, but stopped, as he saw that Becky was on the phone, looking absolutely scared out of her mind. Clary held her hand but she had a confused expression.
"I- I understand. Please, don't hurt her." she was saying and Simon's heart sank. He saw a tear make its way down her cheek and Clary stepped closer. Simon stood still like a statue. Becky hung up and looked at them both. Her hands were shaking as she tried to put the phone back into her pocket, and Clary stepped in to hug her. "What happened? Who was that?" she asked and Becky's wide eyes stared at Simon in disbelief.
"That was Raphael. He's got mom." she said, her voice quivering and Simon stared at her, stunned. He heard a distant rumble, indicating a storm was brewing.
