Chapter 27
Hiccup is in Social Studies. The S.S. teacher is one of his favorites because she is very nice.
Ever since lunch, Astrid has been in a mood. Not a good one.
They are watching Man vs. Wild.
The teacher said they were going to watch it because they finished a section of the continents. Hiccup is sitting in the back with Astrid. She is zoning out... again.
Suddenly the speaker goes on. The teacher stops the episode.
"Yes?" She calls.
"Can you have Hiccup Haddock sent to the office for a sec?" Asks the lady at the office. (A/N:Sorry. Don't know what they are called.)
Everyone looks at Hiccup. He looks away. "Yeah. I'll send him down."
"Thank you." Hiccup gets up and walks to the door. Everyone stares at him. Not just because he was called to the office, but because it is weird to know that the "wimp" of the school lost his foot. He walks out the door and walks down the hall to the office.
When he gets there, the point him to the principles office.
All he can think is: What did he do know?
He was never the one that got in trouble. It was Snotlout that got him in trouble for something he did, not Hiccup.
He walks through the door and the principle points him to a chair.
"So... I've heard that you were in a car accident a few months ago." Hiccup nods. "And that your car was totaled." He nods again. "Well. I've heard from a few friends of mine that when losing a limb, you can't put all that pressure on it. It could get worse. So to prevent that, I want to start taking the school bus until you get a ride or get a car."
The bus. Hiccup has never been on a bus. When he was younger, he heard that the bus can be awful. Kids screaming. Three to a seat. And plenty of people to pick on him.
"T-the bus?"
"Yes. Is that okay?"
Is it? No, it's not. He doesn't like being crowded by a lot people. He is claustrophobic. But nobody knows. But again... nobody knows anything about him. Well... maybe Astrid, Ruffnut, and Snotlout, but ever since his dad... er.... Stoick left, Hiccup cut off giving away anything about him. Nobody questioned it. Nobody talked to him when he started to show up with bruises and cuts. And nobody questioned it when he would flinch by an adult. Nobody questioned when he would never talk to anybody. Or why he would miss lengths of school. Or why his own cousin would beat him senseless then going home and getting the same treatment. Why he had no friends. Why nobody had been to his house. Why he never mentioned his family.
He has a whole different story of his past. But he doesn't ant to relive it so he never talks about it. But when Astrid asked about it, he didn't want to hide anymore.
"Hiccup?" Hiccup looks up.
"Is that okay?"
He can't lie and say it is. But he can't say know and have him be pestered the rest of his school year.
"Yeah. Its fine."
"I'm fine", just so happens to be the biggest lie he told all his life.
