[08]: Frenemies
PRESENT-DAY
"I was surprised when you asked me of all people to go to the mall with you. Isn't Rue like your best friend?" Maddy Perez asked Zelena Lincoln as they were on the escalator together. Zelena looked at Maddy and shrugged.
"She is, but she's not into shopping," Zelena said.
"I thought you hated me," Maddy said.
"I don't hate you. I don't hate anyone, but I don't like you because you act like a spoiled brat who's mad at me just because I'm cheer captain and because Nate is my best friend." She said, which made Maddy roll her eyes.
"What do you really want, Zelena? Why am I here?" Maddy asked.
"You're here because you wanted to come. You could've told me no. But I needed to talk to you. Do you think people are like...100% straight, and like 100% gay?" Zelena asked.
"No, 'cause obviously there's like, bi people, asexual, pan... sexuality is like a spectrum, you know?" Maddy said back to her, and Zelena nodded her head.
"Yeah. I get it." Zelena said.
"Why?" Maddy asked.
"I don't know... Do you think straight guys ever, like... watch gay porn?" Zelena asked.
"Not if they're a hundred percent straight," Maddy said.
"Maddy... you literally just said sexuality is a spectrum," Zelena said.
"Yeah, on either side of the spectrum is gay and straight," Maddy said.
"What the fuck? I fucking hate this." Zelena said, rolling her eyes.
"Is this about Nate?" She asked.
"Thought you didn't care about him anymore, since you revenge slept with Tyler, who is now laying in a hospital... in case you cared," Zelena said.
The truth is, Maddy knew. Nate told her, and she was too scared to stand up to him to do anything about it.
"I didn't know... is he okay?" Maddy asked.
"Benjamin told me he woke up and has been asking for me, so I'm gonna go see him today," Zelena said, and then Maddy sighed.
"Look... I haven't always been the biggest fan of yours and Nate's relationship... but did something happen?" Maddy asked, and Zelena sighed before turning to face Maddy and making them stop walking.
"Okay, if I tell you something, do you swear on your fucking life you won't say a word? I'm not kidding, Maddy." Zelena said.
"Yeah. I swear." Maddy said, and then Zelena leaned forward towards her ear.
She told Maddy about the pictures she found.
―
"Hey, Zelena!" Cal Jacobs answered the front door, and Zelena took a deep breath.
"Hey, Mr. Jacobs... is Nate here?" She asked.
"Yeah, he's upstairs. Go on up." Cal Jacobs said, stepping aside to let Zelena in the house. She walked upstairs to Nate's room and knocked on the doorway. "Nate, Zelena's here!" Nate heard his dad say as Zelena walked inside of his room.
"Hey... is something going on?" Zelena asked.
"Why don't you tell me," Nate said.
"Okay, Nate... I don't know what the fuck you're talking about. Since my ride was suddenly unavailable, I had to walk home, and now you're avoiding me. What's going on?" Zelena asked.
"What's going on is that I'm fucking back with Maddy, okay." Nate snapped.
"And what the fuck does that have to do with you blowing me off?" Zelena asked.
"She said that if we were going to make things work, I had to cut back on time with you," Nate said, and Zelena's eyes widened. That fucking bitch. She wonders if Maddy was blackmailing Nate into dating her again because she told her about the pictures.
"Nate... we've been friends since literal birth; we shared a crib," Zelena said.
"I know... but I love her," Nate said.
"That's why you were just fucking me yesterday, right? Newsflash, I'm not a virgin; you didn't take anything." Zelena snapped. She was hurt and wanted to hurt him back, knowing it would. Nate's eyes flashed hurt first, and then they sparked anger.
"Get the fuck out." He snapped.
"Are you fucking serious? I'm not some fucking property for you to have whenever you get sick of Maddy. I thought I was your best fucking friend." Zelena snapped.
"I'm serious, Zelena. Get the fuck out." Nate said.
"Why? So you can jerk off to all the dick pictures you have on your phone? Like father like fucking son, huh?" Zelena snapped, and then she quickly covered her mouth. She didn't mean to blurt that out, but she was just so angry that it happened. Nate froze, not knowing how Zelena knew about those, but the comparison to his father sent him over the edge.
"What the fuck did you just say to me?" He asked.
"You heard me, Nathanial." She snapped, using his full name. Nate immediately felt defensive, and he completely snapped.
"Get the fuck out of my room. Get out of my house. I never want to fucking see you again, Zelena. Get the fuck out!" He yelled at her. Zelena shrank back because anger has always scared her, and seeing Nate so angry, scared her. She quickly left his room and walked out of the house before Cal Jacobs could even ask her what was wrong.
Nate immediately felt guilty for yelling at her because he knew how much anger scares Zelena, but he was so heated and so caught up in the fact that she knew about all the pictures he had on his phone. Something in him just snapped; besides, Maddy had gotten under his skin. It wasn't a good day for anyone, so Zelena went to the only place she could think of.
Fezco's.
―
"Who is it?" Fez asked when he heard Zelena banging on his door. She tried not to cry on her whole walk over to him, but she was having a bad day and needed something to take her mind off the bad day.
"It's me. Open the door." Zelena said.
"Fuck..." Fez mumbled to himself before he opened his door to see Zelena standing on the other side of the screen door, and he could see it in her eyes, her face, and her posture that she was having a horrible day.
"Not today, Zee. I'm sorry." Fez said.
"Come on, man. Don't be a dick." Zelena said.
"Nah, I'm serious. You can't come in." Fez said.
"Look, man, all I...-All I need is just, like... a few OCs. That's all." Zelena said.
"I'm sorry. I can't help you." Fez said. In all honesty, seeing what she and Rue had gone through, he didn't want them to die or overdose again. Fezco sees Rue and Zelena like his little sisters, and he never wants anything bad to happen to them, especially since they came to him for drugs. He would feel horrible like he already does about both of their overdoses.
"Fez? Fez, I've had a really fucked up day, alright? Look... it's been a really, really fucked up day, okay? So I need you to open the door for me, okay? Can you open the door, please?" Zelena asked.
"I'm not gonna help you kill yourself, Zee," Fez said, setting Zelena off. She was tired of people saying she was trying to kill herself when she wasn't. "I'm sorry, but you can't be coming over here no more. Just go home." Fez said, starting to close the door.
"Don't...-Fez! Don't close the...-Fuck!" She exclaimed when Fez closed the door, but he didn't walk away. He stayed on the other side, close to tears, as he heard Zelena yell and have a meltdown on the other side.
"Fez, open the fucking door, please," Zelena said, slamming her fist against the screen door. "I'm begging you, just open the door. Fez! You're full of shit, man. You know you make your living off of selling drugs to teenagers. And now, all of a sudden, you wanna have a fucking moral high ground? You're a fucking drop out drug dealer. You know that? You're a fucking drop-out drug dealer with seven functioning fucking brain cells." Zelena snapped before she started to bang on the screen door again.
"Open the door!" She yelled. Fez only stood with his back on the other side, trying not to let Zelena's words get to him since she is an addict and addicts will do or say anything to get what they want, but the words still cut since he loves her like a sister.
"Fuck you! Fuck you, Fez. Okay? Are you doing this because you care about me? If you gave a shit about me, you wouldn't have sold me the fucking drugs in the first place! But you did! You fucking did! So open the goddamned door! Open the door!" Zelena screamed.
"I can't do it, Zee... I'm sorry." Fez said from the other side.
"Open the door! Open the door! Open the door!" Zelena shouted, her voice getting higher and higher every time she said it. "Open the door." She said, softer as whimpers started to come from her mouth as she was about to start crying. "You did this to me! You fucking.. and .-You did this to me, Fez. You fucking ruined my life! The least you could do is open the goddamned door and fix it!" She screamed while also crying. Fez only leaned his head against the door and listened, his heart breaking for the girl on the other side.
"I'm fucking serious. I'm so fucking serious. If you don't open this door right now, I swear to god, I will hate you till the day I fucking die." Zelena said. Fez lifted his head from the door and took a deep breath.
"I'm sorry." He whispered, knowing Zelena wouldn't be able to hear him before he walked away from the door and back upstairs. Zelena, not knowing that he had walked away, continued to bang on the door as her cries only got louder.
"You fucking did this to me! Open the fucking door. Open the door, Fez! Come on, man! That is so fucked up!"
―
"Hey. . um, is this Ali? This is Zelena. I was calling to see if you still wanted to get some pancakes or something?"
