[03]: No Tolerance
Zelena walked home... late, mainly because she got high from the stuff that she got from Ashtray earlier and wanted to blow off her high before coming home, but since she hadn't checked in with her brother all day, she knew she was going to be in some shit when she walked in the house.
She knew her brother gave up nearly everything to come back and be her guardian. He could've let her get put in the system, but he didn't. He stepped up and took care of her. Zelena always used to wish that Benjamin was closer to her age, but when their parents died, she was happy for their five-year age gap because if he were closer to her age, they probably would've gotten separated in the system.
"Fuck..." Zelena mumbled to herself as she paced outside the open garage, trying to calm herself down before she walked inside to face her brother, who she knew would be pissed. "Okay." She said, taking a deep breath before stepping inside the house by the door near the kitchen.
She entered the kitchen where her brother sat on the island. "Where were you?" Benjamin asked as soon as she walked in the door.
"I went to eat with Rue." She lied. She was with Rue, so that part wasn't a lie, but they didn't eat, and Benjamin scoffed. Knowing that Rue was also an addict, he believed they were together, but he didn't believe they just went to eat.
"What do you mean you went to eat?" Benjamin asked.
"What do I mean? I mean that Rue and I went and got food, and we ate it; that's what going to eat means." Zelena said before she tried to walk off to her room.
"What? Don't walk away from me." Benjamin said, standing up from the island as Zelena continued to walk to her room. "You know what, Zelena? I don't trust you." Benjamin said, making his way to the hallway to follow his sister to her room.
"I don't know what you want me to say, Ben." She said.
"I want you to tell me where you were," Benjamin said.
"I just said I went to fucking eat!" Zelena snapped, raising her voice.
"Don't you talk to me like that, Zee! You know what? I'm going to drug test you." Benjamin said as Zelena got to her room and slammed the door behind her right as Benjamin got to the outside of it. "What are you slamming your door for?" He asked.
"It was an accident," Zelena said.
"I don't care. You're not leaving this house until you take a drug test." Benjamin said.
"I just peed!" Zelena exclaimed. Zelena heard her brother scoff before walking away from her door, and she took a deep breath, knowing that if she took a drug test, she wouldn't pass. "Shit." She mumbled to herself.
Now, there are a few ways to beat a drug test. The first is simple. Stop doing drugs. But, if you're in a bind and totally fucked like me and Zelena are, option one: niacin. It's a B vitamin that, like, breaks down fat and chemicals or whatever, and if you take a lot of it, like 2,000 milligrams, then chug a few gallons of water, you can flush your system in two to three days.
The only problem is that it has a few side effects. Skin flushing, extreme dizziness, vomiting, rapid heartbeat, and sometimes, death. I don't recommend it. Nor does any legit drug site on the internet. Option 2: synthetic urine. For $89? Yeah, fucking right.
Option 3: get a non-drug-addict friend to piss for you. The only problem is... most over-the-counter home drug testing kits come with a heat-sensor strip that detects the temperature of your urine. And if your parents... or in Zelena's case, guardian watches you pee, you can't do the sink trick. So you have to get it fresh.
Zelena snuck out of her window and ran to Nate Jacobs's house. She knows that he takes drugs occasionally, but he always stops in enough time because they get drug tested during the season, and they usually know when they are. She was hoping that he would have some clean pee because of all of her friends. Nate, Fezco, and Rue.
She couldn't ask Fez or Rue for a pee sample.
She knocked on the door, and a few seconds later, it opened to Nate on the other side. "Hey, Zee... what's up?" Nate asked. Zelena immediately stepped inside the house, put her hands in the pockets of her hoodie, and sighed.
"Hey, I, um... I need a favor." Zelena said.
"What's wrong?" Nate asked, his face immediately being coated with concern.
"I...-like for real, Nate," Zelena said.
"Zelena, what the fuck is wrong?" Nate asked again, a bit of irritation in his tone. Zelena motioned for Nate to bend down since he towers over her in height and when he did. She whispered in his ear the basic rundown of what just happened at her house and what she needed from him, and Nate stood back up.
Side effects of this option?
"Zee, are you fucking serious? You just got out of rehab." He whispered to her.
"Please, Natey..." She whispered, knowing that if she used his old nickname, he would be more likely to do it, and he was. Zelena was Nate Jacobs' biggest weakness, and he knew that he could never say no to her. He sighed before walking to the stairs, and she gave him a small smile. "Thanks."
"Hey, Zelena! How was rehab?" Zelena heard. She looked over to see none other than Cal Jacobs sitting in the dining room with his wife, Marsha Jacobs, and she gave him a small smile. Every time Zelena sees Cal Jacobs, all she can think about are the videos she and Nate watched when they were little.
"Shit..." Zelena mumbled to herself before walking into the dining room to face Cal. "It was good. It was really, really good." She said.
"Well, that's good. You really scared us all this summer. How long have you been back?" Cal asked.
"Cal, come on, leave her alone." Marsha Jacobs spoke.
"It's okay, Mrs. Jacobs... um, five days, sir." She said.
"Five days? And you haven't come to see us until now? Oh, Zelena. Well, a new chapter." He said, and she gave him a small smile, wishing for Nate to come back down the stairs at any moment. How long does it take to pee?
Nate came back downstairs with a Tylenol bottle filled with his pee inside it, and to cover it up, he had one of his hoodies in his hands. He walked up behind Zelena and brushed his arm against hers with the Tylenol bottle, which she took and put into her pocket, and then he walked in front of her and held the hoodie up.
"You're lucky you're my best friend. I don't just give anyone my favorite hoodie." Nate said, and Zelena smiled before taking the hoodie in her hands.
"Thanks... I promise I'll bring it back." She said.
"Like you brought back my other ones?" Nate asked, and she shrugged her shoulders with a smile. Then she leaned up and wrapped her arms around Nate's neck as she hugged him, and he immediately wrapped his arms around her waist.
"Seriously, Nate... thank you." She whispered to him before letting him go and leaving the house.
She needed to get home before her brother noticed she was gone.
―
Zelena snuck back into her window and first strapped the bottle around her thigh so that she could push it out into the cup that her brother was going to make her pee in. After making sure that was secure, she snorted another line of the drugs she got from Ashtray earlier before opening her door.
"Ben, I have to pee!" She said.
"Great, meet you in the bathroom." He said. Zelena rolled her eyes before going into the bathroom, and a few moments later, her brother walked in with the at-home drug test, and he handed her the cup.
"You know, I wish there were a way we could do this that wasn't a complete invasion of my privacy," Zelena said, and Benjamin nodded his head.
"Well, you lost your right to privacy after your overdose," Benjamin said.
"That was a mistake," Zelena said.
"Don't be flip, Zee," Benjamin said.
"Could you..." She trailed off and pointed behind him, meaning that she wanted him to turn around. Benjamin let out a deep sigh before turning away from the toilet and his sister. "Thank you." She said as she sat down.
"You don't understand, Zee. This was the second most frightening moment of my life. And the fact that it was me... I...-I was the one who fou...-" Zelena cut him off, feeling the tears come to her eyes because she hates that Benjamin found her like that.
She feels so guilty about it.
"...-I know... I know, Ben." Zelena said in a soft voice.
"To find you unconscious... in your puke." Benjamin trailed off as his voice cracked and tears came to his eyes. There were tears in Zelena's eyes, especially since she was about to give him Nate's (hopefully) clean pee to test.
"Can we just...-Can we not do this right now, please?"
I know many of you probably hate Zelena and me right now, and we get it. If we could be different people, we promise you we would. Not because we want it, but because our families do, and therein lies the catch.
When Zelena finished emptying the bottle into the cup her brother gave her, she set the cup down so she could stand up and pull her pants up, and when Benjamin heard her pants come back up, he turned around to face his little sister. She put the cup down on the counter, and her brother stuck the test strips into the pee, which came back negative.
Thank you football was Zelena's only thought.
"I'm sorry... for slamming the door earlier," Zelena said. Benjamin looked at his sister and moved his fingers through her hair before tucking it behind her ear.
"It's okay. I forgive you. Come here." He said, pulling her to his chest and hugging her. Zelena wrapped her arms back around her brother and took a deep breath. The guilt that she just gave him pee that wasn't even hers was weighing down on her, and she felt awful about it. As they pulled away, Zelena went to exit the bathroom but turned around.
"Hey, Ben?" She said.
"Yeah?" He asked.
"Can I spend the night at Rue's tonight?" She asked, and he nodded his head.
"Yeah, that's fine." He said, and she smiled at him.
"Thanks."

[zee's party outfit, minus the glasses since it's inside, haha]
When Zelena got to McKay's house, the first thing she did was go into the bathroom, and she forgot to lock the door, but luckily, it was Rue who walked in and both girls had the same idea. They snorted the rest of their crushed up pills before leaving the bathroom, where they both had to hold onto the wall for support.
Zelena felt like the whole room was spinning, and she missed the feeling of being this high. It was almost a foreign feeling to her, but she loved it, and she missed it. She made her way back downstairs knowing that if she didn't say something to Nate, he might lose his shit, plus she still felt guilty for practically ignoring him all summer.
When Zelena got downstairs, she saw Nate making out with some random blonde, and then Maddy walked past him, while taking off her clothes with her brother's friend Tyler following behind Maddy and this wasn't going to end good, which Zelena knew, and the main reason being.
Tyler is 22, and Maddy is 17.
Benjamin is 22, and Tyler was a friend that he made when he moved back from college after the accident. He needed friends his own age since he wasn't friends with Aaron Jacobs much anymore, mainly because he didn't know what happened to that guy. Zelena made eye contact with Nate, before her eyes landed on the girl and she shook her head before rolling her eyes and walking outside. She saw Rue sitting on the couch, lighting a blunt, so she sat down next to her.
"Make sure you pass it." Zelena said.
"What the fuck Rue, Zee?" The girls looked up to see Fezco approaching them and he sat down on the couch next to Zelena.
"What? What, what, what, what?" Rue asked.
"Come on now, bruh. Y'all owe me 120 bucks." Fez said.
"My bad, man, I forgot." Rue said, passing the blunt to Zelena. When she took it, the brunette looked at Fez.
"I'll have Nate pay you." She said, knowing that he would do it if she asked.
"Shit, you know I ain't trippin. Well to be honest with y'all. The whole drug shit got me feeling kind of uneasy." Fez said, looking at the girls.
"Come on, don't go soft on us, Fez." Rue said.
"No, I'm not. It's just that... I like you, and I missed y'all, bruh. Like... that shit at the beginning of summer had me scared as fuck." Fez said.
"Yeah, you and everybody else." Zelena said.
"I'm serious, Zee. I've seen a lot of people die. None like you two. I don't know what type of fucked up shit y'all got going on in y'alls heads. I don't know how to help, but I could tell you both one thing: this drug shit, it's not the answer." Fez said. Zelena passed the blunt to Fez and laid a hand on his cheek.
"I love you, kid... but I am way too high to get deep right now." Zelena said, standing up from the couch and then she looked at Rue. "See you on the other side, Rue." She said, before she stumbled her way back into the house, while mumbling to herself.
"Let's see what dumb shit Nathan is up to now."
―
When Zelena walked back inside through the kitchen, she could hear Nate yelling and she could tell that he was drunk by the way his voice sounded. She made her way to the kitchen right as she heard Nate yelling.
"Does anybody know who the fuck Jules is!?" He shouted, and Zelena rolled her eyes before stepping into the kitchen, seeing Nate in Jules face. "Well, no you're not. Nobody that looks like you is minding their own fucking business." Nate said.
Zelena slid herself between the two of them and pushed Nate back. "Get out of her face, Nate! Goodness. What the hell is wrong with you. She's my friend." Zelena said. Nate looked down at his best friend, a drunken glare in his eyes, while she had a high gaze in hers.
"You're high." He said.
"And you're drunk, back up." Zelena said.
"No, no. Not until she tells me what she wants. She wants some fucking attention, huh? Cause I'll give her some fucking attention." Nate said, trying to step forward, but Zelena wasn't strong enough to push him back, because the first time she caught him off guard.
"Nate, you're crushing me against her, which is probably crushing her, back up!" Zelena snapped.
"Does anybody know who the fuck she is? Somebody better speak up, or this bitch is going to get fucked up!" Nate snapped, and Zelena rolled her eyes.
"You're such an ass!" She said. Jules quickly picked up a knife, and as soon as Nate saw it, he grabbed Zelena and put her behind him so that she wouldn't get hurt.
"You wanna fucking hurt me!?" Jules snapped.
"No, I was fucking kidding!" Nate said, keeping Zelena behind him as he backed up from Jules who was advancing forward with the knife.
"Back the fuck up! What the fuck is your problem!" Jules shouted at him.
"Put the fucking knife down, okay. It was a joke." Nate said.
"You wanna fucking hurt me? You have no fucking idea!" Jules snapped. Zelena's eyes widened as Jules' cleanly sliced her arm with the knife, and she grabbed onto Nate's arm, because even he looked a little freaked out.
"You're psycho!" Nate said.
"I'm fucking invincible!" Jules screamed.
"You're a fucking freak! What the fuck." Nate said back. Jules nodded her head while backing away, still keeping her arm in the air. Zelena shook her head, knowing that, she didn't think she was going to get along with this girl very well.
"By the way, I'm Jules. I just moved here." She said, and then she walked out of the kitchen. Nate looked back at Zelena, while exhaling a deep breath.
"Are you okay, Zee?" Nate asked, and she nodded her head.
"Yeah... yeah, I'm fine." She said.
"That's not what I mean. You just got out of fucking rehab. What the fuck are you taking drugs again for?" Nate asked. Zelena rolled her eyes before walking out of the kitchen because she didn't want to have this conversation in front of everyone. Nate found his shirt and put it on before following her outside.
"Can we not talk about this?" She asked, and Nate grabbed her arm, gently and turned her around to face him.
"No, Zelena. I almost fucking lost you. Do you know how scary that was? When we were fourteen and you called me after the accident, I was scared as fuck, and then when Benjamin called me and said he rushed you to the hospital because you overdosed. I thought you died, Zee! You fucking scared me, twice and I'm not about to come close to losing you a third time. No fucking way." Nate snapped.
The pang of guilt came back to Zelena as Nate spoke. She knew she hurt her brother since he was the one who found her, but she didn't even think about Nate's reaction until right now. She doesn't know what she would do if the roles were flipped and Aaron would've called her saying that Nate was in the hospital for an overdose. Not knowing if he lived or died.
She looked at Nate, tears threatening her eyes. "I'm sorry, Nate... I'm so sorry." She whispered, but Nate was still in his moment of frustration with the brunette.
"The point of rehab is to get clean and get better, and you ask me for my pee so you can pass a drug test and then I see you taking more fucking drugs tonight. What the fuck is going on with you?" Nate asked, and Zelena moved her arm away from him.
"Nothing. I'm a fucking addict, okay, Nate? Just because we go to rehab doesn't mean we recover. That's what the fuck addiction is." Zelena snapped. Nate sighed, knowing that he didn't want to argue with her, and he pulled his keys out.
"Let me take you home." He said.
"Ben thinks I'm spending the night at Rue's... so I'll just go home with you." She said, and Nate nodded his head, before walking her to his car and opening the door for her. Zelena got in and laid her head against the window, because all she wanted to do was go to sleep. Whenever she got high, she had a great feeling, and then she got really sleepy.
Zelena did end up falling asleep on the ride back to Nate's house, and instead of waking her up. He carried her inside of his house and up to his room. When Zelena felt herself being carried, she woke up and lifted her head from Nate's shoulder before kissing his cheek. Nate walked to his dresser and gave Zelena one of his bigger shirts because he knew that she loved to wear them and she walked inside of his bathroom to change.
Once she did and walked back out in nothing but Nate's shirt and her underwear, Nate bit down on his lip as they got into his bed together. Of course over the years he's noticed how Zelena has grown up and become even more beautiful to him every day that he sees her. Zelena scooted in close to Nate and laid her head on his shoulder, while he draped his arm around her waist, and she looked at him. Her big brown eyes meeting his softer ones, because the only gaze he knew around Zelena was a soft one.
"Natey..." She whispered. It was Nate's one comfort, the nickname that she's called him since they were five years old. He always felt at ease and comforted when she called him that. Mainly because she only called him that when it was just the two of them, never in public.
"Yeah, baby?" He asked, running his fingers back lightly through her hair, tucking a piece behind her ear, before his finger trailed down her cheek. Zelena laid her hand on top of his, trapping his finger there as they continued to look at each other. Maybe it was because she was still a little high, or maybe it was because she really didn't give a fuck about Maddy, but for whatever reason it was.
Zelena leaned in and brought their lips together.
