"Carmen." The teacher rose her voice. "What?" Carmen had replied, twirling her pencil carelessly. "Please do your work." She instructed. "Whatever." Her voice trailed, annoyance in it's tone. Carmen decided she might as well do something, she was bored out of her mind. Boy did she need a cigarette right now.
She looked over at her brother Jackson, his eyes glued to hers. His face stern. She sighed, understanding that he wanted her to try. She loved her brother dearly, it's the only thing keeping her alive right now. Her father recently passed away, her mother is in the hospital for cancer. All she had right now, was Jackson and Michelle. Michelle is her best friend, they had been best friends since they were children, always getting into trouble. They were inseparable though.
Carmen began to work on her project when suddenly, the creaking of a door had rang in her ears. She looked up to see, none other, than him. Her crush. Zack. She stared daggers at him until he sat down and glanced toward her. She immediately looked away and put her headphones on, not caring what the teacher would say. She felt her brother's stare as she hid her face in her hands until class had ended.
The bell eventually rung, they were released into the full hallways of students running toward their lockers. It was the end of the day after all, some people had student council though. Carmen never understood the point of student council. In her opinion, it was pointless.
She quickly bent down and grabbed the things from her locker, placing them into her black backpack that she slung over her shoulder as she slammed the locker door shut. The backpack wasn't too heavy, it was fairly light since she had brought all her textbooks home. She began walking toward the school doors, hoping to find her brother. She looked around, searching for the familiar face or hair, finding it immediately.
"Carmen! Guess what!" He said excitedly as he saw her walking toward him. "What?" She asked, tiredness in her voice. "A cute guy asked for my number today." He giggled to her as she smiled. "Aw, I'm so proud of you buddy. Come on, we gotta go home so we can feed Feido. He's probably hungry don't ya think?" She replied to him, taking his hand and leading him toward the correct route to their home. They walked home since it wasn't far from the school.
Her brother had a few mental problems, and he was very gay. She loved him to pieces, she got some sort of 'immunity' to punishment because every once in a while she will get suspended for punching someone who picks on Jackson. She has to look after him during the day time, and night time now. She had every class with him. He was a pretty smart guy. She was thankful for her brother, there was nobody else she loved more. Not even her crush, or her dog Feido.
"What'd you eat for lunch bud?" She asked him, unlocking the door as he waited patiently, smiling. "I had a taco, it was really good." He replied. "That's good, do you want some mac n cheese for dinner?" She asked with a smirk. "Hell yeah! You know I love mac n cheese!" He said excitedly, shutting the door behind him. He turned the T.V. on, hooking it up to his phone and playing some music for her so she can cook. He enjoyed when she sang to him, she did it every time he put music on. She smiled to him, humming a bit to the music as she was preparing dinner. "You don't need them other guys!" She sang to him.
He sang along with his slightly higher pitched voice, he was an excellent singer as well. She would have to take him to see their mom later. He loved seeing her before he had to go to bed. He'd always fall asleep in the car, he was surprisingly heavier than expected but she always carried him to bed.
When the mac n cheese was done, she served it to him and they ate at the table happily. He sure does love his mac n cheese, she had to make 3 boxes!
