Heart Afire

Megan was annoyed.

She was in a studio with her class, as well as a set of students who were a level above her. She was a Level 2. Most stayed in their group of friends, while others just hung around with who they knew so they didn't look so awkward. They talked, stretched, the typical routine for a dance student. Megan pulled down her set of headphones, powered by Bluetooth, so they rested around her neck before crossing her arms. She could still hear Heart Afire blasting through the device, but only under all the commotion in the room.

"Just a little longer, Megs" she told herself "Just hang on until you can practice alone."

She was honest with herself; she hated practicing around others. She thought she looked stupid, and was always convinced she'd mess up if anyone was watching her. Of course she'd show others eventually, but when she was certain she was ready, which was another pro of dancing alone. She could do it at her own speed, going back on moves whenever she needed to ensure she was doing the moves right, no feeling insecure about people watching, no feeling insecure about messing up. Just her, and the music guiding her. And that's the way she liked it.

But being in a class with other people wasn't what was annoying her. Oh no. She could brush off the loudness of those nerds, and the tension in her body. So why was she ticked off?

Leven... Leven fucking Mist.

He just had to have the same class as her.

The bastard was located on the other side of the room directly opposite Megan, stretching in front of the mirrors along with his best mate Isaac. The boys paid no mind to the girl, even though they could clearly see her glaring at them from her reflection in the mirror. For a moment Leven made eye contact with her, but being the rude four-eyes he was he slyly turned his head away and continued to stretch.

So he's ignoring her now. That Asshole.

Megan quickly turned her head to the side with a 'hmph', letting her partially tied up hair fall over her shoulder. It's bad enough Leven was put into the Level 3 dancers while she was stuck with the 1 and 2s, but did he really have to proceed to mock and put her down about it? Was it like, his mission or something to make sure she didn't make it through the college year?

Megan was brought out of her thoughts, as she sensed someone move up next to her and lean his side against the wall. Megan sighed.

"What do you want, Sun?"

"How'd you know it was me?" The raven haired male asked her. She turned her head 90 degrees and glanced at him from the corner of her eye.

"You're the only one with the balls to approach me when I'm like this."

Sun grinned "Oh yeah."

Once again Megan was staring ahead of her. Luckily Leven and his equally annoying friend had moved elsewhere, so she didn't have to curse her eyes with their ugly mugs any longer "Seriously though, what do you want?"

"Oh, right." Sun cleared his throat "I was wondering if you heard the news?'

Megan turned her head, staring directly at the boy and raising an eyebrow "News?"

Sun nodded, pushing away from the wall and running a hand through his shoulder length hair "Everyone's saying that a new student's transferring here. Not only that, but they'll be transferring to our class."

Now both of Megan's brows were raised. That definitely wasn't something you heard everyday. However she furrowed them again and pushed away from the wall, placing both hands on her hips and cocking them to one side "It's the middle of the year. Who does that?"

"Dunno." Her friend shrugged his shoulders "But I've heard they come from a rich family."

Megan scrunched up her nose "Perfect. We'll have some snob joining us."

"Lillie's rich, is she a snob?"

"Well, no... but--"

"Then how do you know this guy will be one?" Sun stuffed his hands in the pockets of his sleeveless hoodie "they might actually be a cool dude."

Megan rolled her eyes "Whatever." To be honest she didn't care. It's not like she talked to most of her classmates, besides Sun, Lillie, Hau and Rose, so why would one more addition affect her in any way. She'd probably just forget their existence eventually, and it'd be like they never even joined.

"Alright, guys!" Kukui, their dance instructor called from the mirror side of the room, which caused all to pause what they were doing entirely to stare at him. He told them to gather round, and everyone started to make their way towards him. Sun grabbed Megan's wrist and dragged her towards the group, only to stop when they had joined their friends. Hau gave them his signature grin, waving at them like the happy go-lucky person he is.

"Hey guys! Hau's it going?" He beamed.

Megan huffed "It's always puns day in and day out with you, isn't it?"

"Well, it can't really be helped." Rose shrugged "He basically has more happiness than the whole class combined."

"Ain't that the truth." Sun smirked, slapping his childhood friend on the back.

Megan glanced over at Lillie, who was silent and seemed to be slightly anxious. This made her frown.

"You alright, Lil's?"

The blonde flinched slightly, whipping her head round to face the girl "I-I'm fine, no need to worry!"

Megan cocked an eyebrow and crossed her arms "Uh-huh... Alright then."

Lillie wasn't the quiet type. A little shy maybe, but not quiet. So this behaviour had struck Megan's curiosity. However, she knew better than to pry, as she knew Lillie gets really uncomfortable when someone tries to get into her business. Besides, she didn't look troubled, just dazed.

"So then." Kukui spoke up from the front, clapping his hands together to once again grab his students' attention "Before we get started with today's session, I have an announcement."

A sarcastic 'yaaay' could be heard from the crowd of students, which Megan knew very well came from Isaac. She rolled her eyes before focussing on her instructor.

"Ahem, anyway. Starting from today we will be having a new student joining us. They'll be arriving any time now." Kukui continued.

"Told you." Sun whispered to Megan, making her huff.

"Whatever." She whispered back. Again, she didn't care.

A knock on the door grabbed the rooms attention, and caused them to turn their heads towards it. Kukui seemed to grin at the sound, and gave whoever knocking the 'ok' to enter. The door opened to reveal Olivia, one of the college's geography staff, along with someone Megan didn't recognise. Mostly because she couldn't really see them as Olivia continued to stand in the doorway.

"Ah, Miss Olivia." Kukui smiled "How may I help you?"

Olivia returned the smile, before stepping into the room and away from the doorway so the other person could enter. Now Megan could see them clearly.

It was a dude. One who didn't really look like he wanted to be here, judging by the way he had his arms crossed over his chest and how his eyes were fixed onto the floor. His hair was platinum blonde and styled in an odd way so it completely covered the right side of his face. He wore a pair of black pants and a dark grey shirt with crimson red long sleeves, which had the words 'Get out' printed across the torso area in red. He had a red backpack which had one strap slung over his shoulder. His style might've looked weird to some, but Megan could actually dig it.

And okay, maybe the guy was hot as balls, and perhaps Megan suddenly felt slightly warmer when he entered the room- Wait, no. She shook her head to push the thoughts aside. She shouldn't care. She didn't care.

"Glad you could join us, son." Kukui beamed, beconing the boy over with one hand. The blonde quietly shuffled over to him, standing at his side and letting his eyes look over the sea of students that was before him. Kukui put a hand onto the boy's shoulder, which he obviously didn't like by the way he winced at the touch. "Thank you, Miss Olivia." The man nodded to dark-skinned female, who nodded and left the room. Everyone's attention had now fallen onto the boy, who was obviously trying hard not to shift in his position.

"Everyone." Kukui addressed his students "This is your new classmate. Meet Gladion Aether."

Wait... Gladion Aether?! Isn't that Lillie's--

"Isn't that your brother, Lillie?" Hau beat Megan to it, asking the blonde girl the same question that probably crossed everyone's mind. She smiled sheepishly and began playing with her ponytail nervously.

"Well- Um- Yes... Yes it is." She rambled, avoiding eye contact.

"Why didn't you say anything? We agreed no secrets." The green-haired male whined, crossing his arms and pouting like a child.

"She probably didn't want us asking questions..." Megan suggested in her usual bored tone.

"Is this true, Lillie?" Sun asked the green-eyed girl, who responded with a quiet nod.

"Sorry, guys. I just thought it'd be better if you found out with the rest of the class..." She said quietly, her eyes travelling to the floor.

"Don't worry about it!" Rose stated with a grin, slapping the poor girl on the back. "Right guys?"

"Yea, no worries!"

"We don't mind."

"It's whatever..."

With the command of Kukui the class disbanded, going off to practice their own solo/group routines. Megan was no different, as she made her way to the dance studio she had booked and entered before closing the door behind her. For some reason she always chose this room, it seemed to speak to her. Yet it was no different from most rooms in this place. She plugged the cord into her phone and began scrolling through her playlist, until the one she wanted to dance to caught her eye. Selecting it she hurried to the middle of the room and stood with her back towards the mirror, one hand on her hip and her knee bent out to the side.

---

Gladion huffed. He was told by the instructor to go to a specific room, room 4A, as the student using it was doing a dance similar to what he was looking for. He was told to watch them dance, see if anything sparks inspiration, and maybe even get some tips from them. Gladion stopped in front of the door, only to hear Mama Mia playing in the studio on the other side. Not the best song to dance to, but alright. He reached for the door handle.

However, he heard the song stop, which also halted his hand movement. The music started up again, only this time it was All Falls Down. Curious, Gladion cracked the door open and peaked inside, only to see a girl standing in the middle of the room with her back facing him. She made slow, graceful movements along with the soft lyrics, only to change into bouncing off her heels as the music picked up. She moved swiftly, swinging her arms and gliding across the floor. She spun around on her left heel, her long blondish brown hair flowing perfectly as she moved in time with the music.

The way she danced was beautiful. It was graceful, yet powerful at the same time. She moved perfectly to the beat, and had seemed to have put Gladion under some sort of spell. He couldn't take his eyes off her, not even for a second. He was mesmerized by her-

Hold the phone, he wasn't here to some girl goo goo eyes. He had work to do.

Gladion opened the door fully and cleared his throat, which took the girl by surprise and made her stumble forward. She caught herself and straightened up, before slowly turning her body to face the boy. She raised an eyebrow once they had made eye contact.

Gladion was finally able to have a good look at her, since she wasn't moving around. She was pretty slender for her age, and didn't look like she had much muscle on her. Her hair was partly tied up at the back of her head, while the rest freely draped over her shoulders. Her style of clothing... didn't actually seem too different from his own. She was wearing a pair of black leggings, along with a well-fitted black t-shirt with some sort of skeleton-reaper thing and the words 'Godrath Unearthed' printed on it's sythe. Along with a red flannel tied around her waist. On her wrist was a pair of hair bands, one beige and the other brown, as well as a small blue bracelet that looked to be homemade.

"Why don't you take a picture, it'll last longer."

She suddenly shifted, her head turning to the side and her cheeks dusting a light shade of pink. It was then that Gladion realised he was staring, causing his face to heat up from embarrassment.

"A-Ah, um... s-sorry." He stuttered, shaking his head before focussing on her eyes again.

Her big...

Blue...

Sparkling-- Okay that's enough.

The girl shrugged, tucking a strand of loose hair behind her pierced ear "It's whatever. What do you need?" She asked him, placing her hands on her hips and cocking them to the side.

"Oh, right, um... Kukui wanted me to work with you for this session. Something about our dance styles being similar." Gladion stated, leaning his shoulder against the doorframe.

Now both the girl's eyebrows were raised. She pursed her lips together and seemed to be focusing on her black converse. Gladion was sure he heard her mumble "He knows I'm not good working with others..."

"Y-You know if you're uncomfortable with it, I can just practice in the room next door. I made a reservation, just in case." Gladion stated, pointing to the hallway behind him with his thumb.

The girl glanced at him "Prepared, aren't we?" She sounded almost amused.

Gladion frowned "Hey you never know. You could've been some bitch that blows a fuse at someone for breathing."

"Nah, that's Leven."

"Who?"

"Long story..."

Gladion raised an eyebrow at the girl, who seemed to be fiddling with her bracelet "I never got your name." He stated.

"I didn't give it" She replied flatly "But if you must know, it's Megan. No need to tell me your name 'cause I already know, Gladion."

Jesus, can this girl sound any more like she didn't want him there?

Gladion sighed "Of course you do..."

All Falls Down suddenly ended, causing the room to fall into an awkward silence. Megan averted her eyes, playing with the hole of her shirt in an uncomfortable manner.

"So, uh... you gonna go use that room?" She asked Gladion "It'll only be reserved for so long."

Gladion's eyes widened. He had realised that the time he had spent drooling over this girl, was time he could've spent working on his choreography and finding a song that suited him. He swung his arms before lacing his fingers behind his back and backing out of the room.

"Okaaaay then. Welp, it's been fun Morgan--"

"Megan."

"--But I gotta do something that actually benefits me as a dancer."

Megan's lips twitched upwards to form a small, smug smile "Too busy gawping at me, eh?"

Fuck, so she did see.

"No!" Gladion blurted, grasping the strap of his backpack and reaching for the door handle. He slammed it shut with a little more force than he intended, but hey. Maybe it scared her enough so she would stay away from...

Is that laughter he could hear?

He glanced at the door from over his shoulder and scowled, his cheeks dusting a light shade of pink as he scoffed and dragged his feet towards his practice room.

Okay, so that might have been the most awkward few minutes of his life...

What he didn't know, was that Megan's face was red too.

Was was it about each other, that set their hearts afire?
