ALBUM REVIEW: In This Moment We Are Free-Cities by VUUR
For those who don't know, VUUR is a progressive metal band which founded a few years ago by Anneke van Giersbergen. I like Anneke, and I had heard the album Nighttime Birds by The Gathering and liked it, which is why I decided to give this album a shot and see how it was.
The tracklist:
1. My Champion - Berlin
2. Time - Rotterdam
3. The Martyr and the Saint - Beruit
4. The Fire - San Francisco
5. Freedom - Rio
6. Days Go By - London
7. Sail Away - Santiago
8. Valley of Diamonds - Mexico City
9. Your Glorious Light Will Shine - Helsinki
10. Save Me - Istanbul
11. Reunite! - Paris
The songs on the album are all inspired by cities Anneke has visited while touring, and I get what it was she was trying to do. However, I really did not like this album. I did kind of like "Sail Away - Santiago", but I feel that the songs were all unnecessarily long and the album kind of just drags out. Anneke sounds great, of course, but I don't think that was enough to make the album good.
However, that does not mean whatever else the band puts out is going to be bad. I like Anneke, so I will give whatever they put out next a chance.
