Serene is a teenager who is losing her way and her priorities. She has a boyfriend named Keith. She met him online, yet her love for him is as real as it can be.

Sabina is Serene's mother. She is under the impression that Serene had stopped all contact with her "media people." She doesn't know that Serene couldn't leave Keith. She did try, but she couldn't. She loved Keith too much to let him go.

                        Scene 1
Serene: on her phone with Keith while doing homework.
Sabina: Serene! Have you finished your- sees Serene on her phone What the hell are you doing on your phone!
Serene: look nonchalant just texting someone. But I am working on my homework too
Sabina: You shouldn't be on your phone while doing homework, that's stupid. How much homework have you got done? It's been two hours.
Serene: pales I-I finished my math homework.
Sabina: it looks like you haven't even touched it.
Serene: Alright I haven't started. I'm about to though!
Sabina: how many times have I told you to to keep your stupid phone away from you when you are working? You never Learn! You're either on your phone, or nail polish. Phone, nail polish, phone, nail polish. Do you know what time it is? 10:25 PM. and you haven't even  started your homework yet? Give me your phone.
Serene: no!
Sabina: snatches out and throws it across the room
Serene: runs in front of it protectively
Sabina: you've tested my patience. It's no longer summer time. My worst mistake was giving you this thing.
Sabina gives an entire monologue then begins stomping on the phone.
Serene: runs in front of it Stop!
Sabina leaves the room and serene continues to text Keith and do her homework.

Scene 2

Serene wakes up on time and runs down. Sabina is making breakfast for James her brother. They don't even look at each other.

Sabina: at what time did you go to sleep?
Serene: 12:00. It's fine.
Sabina: it's idiocy. You had all the time in the world to complete and you just didn't.
Serene: your point?
Sabina: sighs and looks away. She just keeps arguing.
Serene: dad, remember to get my physical ASAP. You HAVE to get it today.
Sabina snorts ha. He doesn't even know your doctor. Also because you asked him, I'm completely out of this.
Serene: if I asked you, you'd say more deplorable things about me right? Yeah no.
Sabina: I was planning to go and get your forms at 8:00. I guess that's one thing off my list.
Serene: that case tell dad who my doctor is.
Sabina: why should I?
Sabina and dad: begin lecturing about the phone causing all of these problems.
Serene: you know what, this is why social media is better than Real life. On media all you have to do is press the mute button.
Sabina: such a good idea! Ask your social media to help you with your forms.
Serene finishes her breakfast and goes upstairs ASAP. Wears some sports clothes and packs a change of clothes.
Serene: I'm going to school goodbye.
Sabina: What are you wearing?
Serene: oh don't worry I got a change of clothes. You can't wear jeans when biking.
Sabina: what?! No I'm going to drop you.
Serene: uh no. Social media can't drop me so I'll drop myself.
Sabina: points your change of clothes consists of 2 shirts.
Serene: oh... Oops I'll go fix that runs up the stairs, Sabina following stop following go back downstairs.
Sabina: I am your mom, you can't order me around.
Serene: packs the real change. Whatever I don't give. Pushes past Sabina.
Sabina: I'm not going to let you go by biking it is so dangerous you know?
Serene: try and stop me.
Sabina grabs Serene's hair. Serene pulls her hair out and Sabina pushes her into her room, still gripping her wrist.
Serene: twists out of Sabina's grasp. Don't you dare lay a finger on me. I will file a physical harassment complaint on you! Let me go! Are you just gonna not let me go to school?
Sabina: I don't mind you not going.
Serene: oh well. I'll make sure the counselor knows why I didn't come to school today.
Sabina: I will too! I'll send her an email saying we are having family issues and she is dropping out of all gifted and honor classes.
Serene: pales how dare you.
Sabina: shrug
Serene: goes into the restroom to brush her hair and change her clothes defeated. Sabina stands stubbornly preventing the bathroom door to be locked.
Serene: do you see I'm trying to change?
Sabina: we are both girls, and I've seen you like that multiple times. I'm your mom.
Serene: finishes changing Stop acting like MY mom.
Sabina and Serene walk both into the van Serene staying silent the entire time.
Sabina: starts driving do you know the amount of humiliation you caused me in front of father's parents?
Serene: I don't care. You did it yourself by stopping me.
Sabina: I really wish I had gotten my sister's brain cancer. Then I'd be the one dying and you'd be happier.
Serene: Same. Maybe that's the reason I was going by bike. Who knows? Maybe my bike could just slip and I'd fall there. You'd never have to deal with me.
Sabina: oh an accident would be the least of your worries. If you got kidnapped and tortured? The forest is very dangerous. I don't want that happening to you, or anyone.
Serene: oh well, I don't give. Whatever happens to people shouldn't matter. Why waste your time thinking of strangers, including me. If I get tortured or kidnapped, just move on.
Sabina: begins to cry. You don't understand. Why can't you see how much I love-
Serene: interrupts then stop loving me!
Serene's words shock Sabina into silence. The car almost skids. A screech could be heard. The ride remains in silence until the drop off when Sabina takes a detour into the parking.
Serene: what are you doing? Alright fine I'll just walk there.
Sabina: no, please don't go. Talk to me.
Serene: opens the car door. There's nothing to talk about.
Sabina: sounds heartbroken Serene...
Sabina's trembling voice make Serene pause. She lets go of the car door and closes it sitting down.
Serene: make it quick. I've got a project to print out. And I don't want to be alone with you.
Sabina: why didn't you print it out at home?
Serene: the MacBook isn't connected. Is that it?
Sabina: why do you hate me? Or have been acting so defiant to me.
Serene: I'm angry right now. It's nothing.
Sabina: tell me. I want to know. Why are you so upset. How can I help you? I want to be with you. I need you.
Serene: do you need me?
Sabina: yes
Serene: you couldn't live without me?
Sabina: no. You're a part of me. You're my heart, you can't live without a heart.
Serene: voice starts to shake. Lies. You want me. I'm not a basic necessity. Opens the door again
Sabina: if you leave, I'm following you into the school.
Serene: sighs there's more?
Sabina: I need you. My life would be ruined without you. I just want you to know that. I know you want to talk to Keith and Leela and that group but it's ok.
Serene: Gets annoyed. This has nothing to do with my feelings right now!
Sabina: then what is it?
Serene makes up a reason because she doesn't know why she is like this. Her reason is that she is getting frustrated with herself, but doesn't know why. Sabina listens and gives her advice. Serena doesn't want to hear it.
Serene: can we go now? I'm getting late.
Sabina: I'll drive to the dropoff, you don't have to walk all the way.
Serena: K
Serena gets off and Sabina asks her for a smile. She looks back but doesn't respond. As she's walking to the front door she starts to cry, and no one notices. She goes to the front office where she works and smiles at her employers and makes small talk with them. She goes to the restroom after finishing printing and cries for the rest of the 30 minutes.

Scene 3
Saij is in homeroom. She is reading to distract herself not crying anymore. She ends up getting some texts.

Serena begins to cry even more and this time a girl named Qiru Lin notices. They are supposed to hate each other but Qiru comforts her... Well asks her what was wrong and Serena lies embarrassed. But Qiru tries to help her makes feel better. And her attempt does make Serena feel good.
