Welcome to Part 1.1 Applications! In here, I will be giving you some of the applications I use to download pictures and some advantages and disadvantages of using them.

❶ Pinterest

Ahh yes, pinterest, no one here is a stranger to it.

Wattpad is affiliated with Pinterest and I constantly see Wattpad edits on Pintetest so it's also a good place to get inspiration.

Why do I recommend it?

❒ Pinterest is like an online scrapbook. There are so many pictures that correlate to each other and you can save them using a pin.

❒ Very simple interface, easy download system, might require sign up to be able to pin pictures but it is very free.

❒ There are pictures that do not dissapoint. You can find really great pictures in there.

What are the disadvantages?

❒ Pinterest is not known to really be a graphic help for designers. It's main purpose is to showcase pictures from different websites and you can access these pictures at the same time, go to the website it was uploaded on.

❒ There are pictures there that just really are not great in quality and are like really low level google pictures.

❒ There is a lot of food, rooms and make up pictures, sometimes searching for a similar term can lead you to some questionable pictures.

❷ WeHeartIt

My editing buddy from the past till now.

WeHeartIt has always been a favorite place of mine to gather some really high quality photos. You are always assured of quality in WeHeartIt.

Why do I recommend it?

❒ The quality, duh! Most pictures there have really high quality and they present creative pictures too.

❒ It's easy to bookmark and download pictures. Needs membership, but you can sign up for free.

❒ It is very Wattpad friendly. I have seen a lot of collections with the title "Wattpad" so that means a lot of graphic designers use this app too.

What are the disadvantages?

❒ WeHeartIt recently just updated and Premium has become a thing in there now. So that means, you have a limited amount of downloading photos without their watermark.

❒ There are a lot of articles more than pictures so it might get tedious finding pictures.

❒ Although it has high quality pictures, there is less options for you to choose from. Pictures get repetitive after a long while. You might encounter the same pictures in the span of 5 years.

❸ Unsplash

I will be honest, I haven't used Unsplash yet for any official editing.

I just recently stumbled upon it because NiaGraphics commented on my Rosie Graphics QnA section and she said that Unsplash is better than the two mentioned above.

Why do I recommend it?

❒ It is advertised as a free stock photo website, which means there are less worries of getting copyright issues.

❒ Has an easy website interface and doesn't really require signing up to use their pictures

❒ It's also a place for photographers to shine so you can also show support to photographers by promoting their pictures. Just don't forget to credit them rightfully.

❒ Really high quality photos. As expected.

What are the disadvantages?

❒ Since it mostly focuses on Photography, there aren't options for you to search for art or anime related graphics.

❒ It's a little bit difficult to find specific pictures (suggested by BrokenReadersClub)

❒ I haven't used it long enough to find disadvantages. If I do, I will update this part in the future.

❹ Pexels

Another one I haven't really used yet.

I'm honestly glad I found Pexels. Like Unsplash, it's also stock free.

Why do I recommend it?

❒ It's very similar to Unsplash and works great as a back up if you don't have enough good pictures.

❒ Really high quality, easyily understood interface, suggests collections with useful tags

❒ Supports photographers like Unsplash.

What are the disadvantages?

❒ It only has realistic photos, so there are less chances of getting art realted photos.

❒ Like Unsplash, I haven't used it long enough to give disadvantages but might update it when I do find one.

❺ Deviant Art

Another website that was very prominent in my childhood.

Thank Izzy for recommending this and allowing me to use your ideas for this tutorial book. You should check her out, she is a great designer.

Why does she recommend it?

❒ Professional level stocks

❒ There are different kinds of grpahics available ranging from: celeb pngs, stock photos, text styles, overlays, premade textures, overlays and backgrounds, and psds

❒ Wide variety of genres and multiple pictures of the same model in different poses and angles

What are the disadvantages?

❒ It might take time finding the pictures you want but once you know the best stock providers, it gets easier.

❒ The downloading process is sometimes not easy. Most of the times, the site only offers zip files. So you should learn how to open them.

❻ Pixabay

It's similar to Unsplash and Pexel in formatting and the fact they are advertised as stock free sites.

Why does she recommend it?

❒ Pixabay offers a diverse list of design elements or resources, from illustration, to vector, to photography stocks, renders or pngs as they're called by others and videos.

❒ They are commercially usable.

❒ It's pretty easy to understand when you know what you're looking for, but even if you don't they offer really cool images which you can use.

❒ their pixabay license is easy to understand to those interest in reading what limits the images has (just go to the FAQ in the drop down menu)

What are the disadvantages?

❒ It does take time for you to find the right stock for you to use

❒ There are a lot of disadvantages in her opinion, but either Ruth or I will add more if we find any
