Skeptics and Concerns

ᴺᴼᵂ ᴾᴸᴬᵞᴵᴺᴳ : Level of Concern (Twenty One Pilots)

'Cause I told you my level of concern
But you walked by like you never heard
And you could bring down my level of concern
Just need you to tell me we're alright, tell me we're okay

I'm suffocating, was my first thought when I forced my eyes open. It felt like every time I inhaled, I was swallowing down wet concrete, leaving my chest feeling heavy. Even with my eyes now wide open, nothing but black was seen.

I tried to lift my hands to my face, to try and see if I could at least see my fingertips through the dark, but my hands never moved. I started to panic, squeezing my hands from where they were next to my sides when it suddenly felt like something was coiling around my waist tightly, squeezing and squeezing until whatever air I had was forced out of my lungs.

I tried to call out for help, for anyone to help me understand what was going on. No sound came out and the tightening only got worse. Tears pricked my eyes, realising that this could be the moment where I would die. Alone, frightened, confused, but also angry.

Why was I angry? I didn't know what was going on, or why it was happening, but I was just so pissed for no reason at all. I feel my hands curl into tight fists, nails digging into the skin of my palm as I go to shout out my frustrations.

My eyes shoot open, chest rising and falling rapidly as the feeling of being crushed inwards becomes faint. I don't get to ponder on what my dream was about when my dazed gaze meets dark blue ones directly above me, freckled cheeks growing in size as the man grins down at me.

"Hey! She's alive! I thought she was a goner there for a second. You're lucky, Kai." The boys curly hair bounce as he shakes his head, a sigh of relief blowing past his lips.

With adrenaline running through my body at the sudden shock, I was quick to take in my surroundings. The blond man who had locked us all in was standing in front of my bedroom door, and despite how he wasn't the bulkiest person in the room, there was no way I was able to take him down, so that exit was out of the option. I sweep over him and try to spot my window, but it was blocked by none other than my least favourite kidnapper, the one that made me pass out.

He was narrowing his eyes towards the freckled man holding my legs up in the air— hold on, what? I reel back and jerk my legs in his hold, skin tingling under his foreign touch. This seems to gain his attention, and when I tug again his eyes widen and he quickly lets go, his hands held up as he slowly backs away while I scramble to the back corner of my bed.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you or anything, I was trying to make sure that the blood ran to your head more easily while you were unconscious!" He quickly explains, his grin twitching at the corners as the man with the bun places a hand on his shoulder.

"You didn't mean to scare me?" I tried to keep the bite out of my words, but it was a bit difficult when you were staring down random strangers that had attacked you in your own home. "Then what the hell were you trying to do? First, you drag me into my own room forcefully," My wavering glare shifts over to the guilty looking culprit, the man dressed in red not looking me in the eyes.

"You then lock me in with a bunch of strangers," Next was the blond bodyguard, who only frowns deeply at my words, "and give me enough shock to make me pass out! But no, you weren't trying to scare me, oh no."

"Look," The woman among them sighs softly, cautiously taking a seat at the end of my bed, her eyes following my movements when I try to back up even further into my corner, though I don't go very far, "I know how this looks, and I'd be acting the same way if I were in your position, maybe even worse." She licks her bottom lip, and I could almost see her working out how to say what she was thinking before she speaks again, "We just need you to listen to us for a few minutes, just a few minutes, and if you don't trust us, then we'll leave."

"Leave?" My least favourite kidnapper questions suddenly, his amber eyes wide in disbelief, "Nya, you know we can't—"

My favourite kidnapper so far shoots the brunet a look I couldn't decipher, "We'll leave, Kai." Her words and tone were enough to make the man purse his lips in annoyance.

What choice did I have? There were six of them and one of me, and by the looks of all of their well built frames, it felt more like fifty of them against a half of me. I could always yell out for help, but what chance did mom and my brothers have against these guys? If what this woman was saying was true, and that all I had to do was hear them out and if what they were saying was likely bullshit, they would leave, well it seemed like that was my best bet.

Pulling my knees close to my chest and curling myself into a ball, I bite the inside of my cheek and slowly nod. "Okay," I notice the way they all perk up at my simple word, "I'll listen. But if it's money you want, we honestly don't have that much."

The blond at my door was quick to shake his head, his frown almost deepening, "We're not here for money, or to kidnap you, or to steal or to even harm you." Something in the way he held his voice made me trust him almost. Almost.

"Then what do you want? Why're you all in my room acting like, well, kidnappers?" Were they just acting stupid to trick me? What exactly was their intention?

"We wouldn't look like kidnappers if someone hadn't jumped the gun." The tallest and definitely the one who visits the gym most out of all of them grunts out, annoyed gaze once again being shot towards my least favourite kidnapper, who's name is Kai if I remember right.

"I said I was sorry!" The man throws his hands up in exasperation, turning his back on all of us to lean his side against the wall nearest my window. I could only see half of his face, which was set into a firm grimace, eyes cast out towards the front yard.

"I mean, you didn't exactly say those words to me..." I mutter to myself quietly in a grumble, rolling my eyes back towards the rest of the group. "Alright, so what is it then?"

"'Kay, so there's a lot to unpack here, and we're probably going to sound insane, but everything we say is totally legit!" The one in blue begins to ramble out with almost too much energy, I was honestly a bit jealous. I could use some of that energy myself.

"Is it a wise decision letting Jay explain our current predicament?" The voice from the corner of the room had me flinching. I almost forget that there was a silent type in this interesting group of people.

Jay, who now finally had a name, gasped as if someone just stepped on his toes, blue eyes glaring towards the pale man, "What's that supposed to mean? I'm great at explaining difficult things!"

"No, no you're not." The blond in front of my door sighs, green eyes disappearing behind his eyelids as he pinches the bridge of his nose, "Just, let me do it, otherwise we'll be here for the next century."

The way Jay actually pouts has me snorting a laugh, the sight of someone his age pulling off a face that belongs to a child had tickled my funny bone despite whatever situation this was.

"So, there's no easy way to say this." The blond man has me tearing my eyes away from Jay, who now was getting a pat on the shoulder by man bun, green eyes staring intently back into my own eyes. I tried not to shiver under his intense gaze, a part of me not liking where this was going but also not being able to tear myself away from his eyes.

His mouth opens again and I had squared my shoulders up to prepare myself for whatever he was going to say when there was a loud few knocks on my door, the sound having me shouting and jumping back in shock, also making me knock the back of my head against the wall.

Hissing through my teeth, I brought a hand up to the back of my head and ran my fingers over the now tender spot. Why was I hitting my head so much today?

"Y/n?"

The voice of Jasper has me quickly opening my eyes, which I blink rapidly to get rid of the pained tears that were slowly beginning to blind me.

"What?" I utter, mouth agape as I crawl towards the centre of my bed, the sheets crinkling between my fingers. The people, they weren't? "They're gone?"

I push myself off my bed and rush to inspect my room. My closet was empty, nothing but a few boxes full of clothes that were ready to be taken to the dorms along with a few old Christmas decorations. No strange people. I shut the closet doors and turn towards the window, but it was locked shut and there was no way they had jumped out that quickly, and from a second story house? They would have made a noise, at least!

"Y/n? Are you up? I have your car keys." Jasper knocks on the door again, his voice a bit louder to probably wake me up.

"Sorry—Sorry, hold on!" I call out to him, quickly doing one last search before shaking my head and fumbling for my bedroom door. I pull it open to see Jasper peering up at me in confusion, my car keys dangling in his fingers.

"They fell out of your bag." He mutters, holding them out for me, his green eyes flickering past me towards the inside of my room. Most likely thinking I had some boy in the room or something like that. Jokes on him, I had five men and a woman inside of there just a moment ago, or so I thought.

"Thanks," I take my keys from him, squeezing the cold metal into my palm, "I didn't even hear them fall out—"

"You have Ninjago figures?" He questions, eyes glued towards something on my carpeted floor. "I thought you didn't like that show?"

"Huh?" I spin to stare at these so called figures, completing puzzled on what he was on about. I walk further into my room, placing my keys on my bare desk while I'm at it and there, in all their glory, were tiny little LEGO figurines, each sprawled out in a different spot.

"I don't..." I couldn't find the words, did my brothers come into my room and leave these guys here? But Jasper was the one to point them out, and they know they're not supposed to come into my room without permission, so where did they come from?

Bending down towards the two closest to my bed, I pick both figures up and inspect them closer, almost dropping them in the process. No fucking way.

The two I had picked up looked exactly like the blond that had locked the door and Nya, the one that had basically told off my least favourite kidnapper. I mean, obviously there were major differences such as skin tone and eye colour (except the blond, his green eyes matched the human version of his), but there was no mistaking it; these were the same people!

"So, you were a fan all along." Jasper was the one to break me out of my inner crisis, the ravenette grinning victoriously from my door, "I'm gonna tell Toby. He's not gonna believe it!"

I barely pay attention to the sound of his retreating footsteps and instead pick up the rest of the figures scattered around. The freckled one, the one with the man bun, the silent yet could probably snap me in half one, and last but not least, but also least, the amber eyed kidnapper.

I ended up standing the six of them along my empty study desk, all in a line staring straight towards my bed. A bad idea, yeah probably, but at least I could keep an eye on them as well. Which I did, for a solid five minutes.

I had bent myself down onto my knees, becoming eye level with the six of them and waited. Waited for what? I wasn't too sure. For them to magically turn into humans? Well, when you put it like that I sound ridiculous, but you weren't wrong. I was also just hoping that they would do nothing. Just stand there, like normal LEGO figures do. Because that's what they are, normal LEGO pieces.

I groan and fall flat onto my back after coming to terms with things, staring straight up at my ceiling fan with a sigh. "I'm going nuts. I'm going crazy and I need medical attention." That was all. I was just going bonkers, right?
