Chapter Five

It's been a couple days since your visit from your Pencil Returner who's a Mathematician, and who likes to hang out on roofs. You've checked the roof every night since then, and checked your window for anymore notes. But there was always just the cooing of pigeons, and the empty pane of your window. You were meaning to push the note out of your mind, to just forget about it, but it kept scratching at the back of your head, fighting to stay on your mind.

Your parents were out on a date night, saying that food was in the fridge and to not have a party or they'd make sure you wouldn't be able to breath without a machine. You laughed it off though as they smiled and waved, leaving you alone. An hour into having the T.V. to yourself, you heard hurried knocks on the door. You tensed, and looked at the door waiting for them to stop, but the knocker was persistent. You stood and went to the door, looking through the peep hole. When you saw who it was, you opened the door with a rush, nearly ripping your arm out of its socket.

"Missy?" You managed out before the person responsible for the knocking nearly tackled you in a hug, it was tight and nearly knocked the breath out of you.

"Missy-" You were cut off by sobbing. You hugged them back, rubbing their back in soothing circles. You closed the door after a few moments, then returned to rubbing Missy's back. Their hair was tucked in a black and gray threaded beanie, their bangs the only thing indicating that they had dark brown hair. They were wearing a rather dirty army green jacket and jeans with holes peppered all over the legs. Their jeans were tucked in black boots that were dirty and looked to have never seen a sunny day. Missy let out a shaky breath and they sniffed, and pulled away. Their make-up was smeared into black circles under their eyes

"Missy, what happened?" You asked, holding their face in your hands. Their lip trembled and they let out a choked sob. You figured out that that wasn't the best question to ask at the moment.

"Okay, how about we clean you up first." You took Missy's hand and led them down the hallway to your bathroom, where you set Missy on the toilet and you put a washcloth under the faucet. You wrung out the hot water and you kneeled in front of Missy and started to clean the make-up from under their eyes. They just sat there and let you clean their face up, not saying a word, the only noise being an inconsistent sniffle from Missy. When you finished your gave them a wad of toilet paper. They took it gladly, and blew their nose. They crumbled the soiled toilet paper in their hand and looked up at you, taking a deep and shaky breath.

"Thank you. . ." Missy said. You nodded and headed out of the bathroom and went to the kitchen to get Missy some water.

"I bet you're wondering why I'm here, huh?" They said from behind you, having followed you to the kitchen.

You turned around, handing Missy the water.

"Oh no, I'm not wondering why my best friend just shows up on my doorstep in hysterics and sobbing her pretty green eyes out on my favorite shirt." You said sarcastically.

Missy smiled a bit, but her face fell.

"I'm sorry. . . I just. . . My parents."

That was all Missy needed to say. You nodded and sighed.

"I'll call my parents, tell them you're staying." Missy looked like she was about to cry again.

"Thah-Thank Ya-You-" Missy said, forcing herself to smile and to not cry. You hugged Missy, who hugged back, breathing in counts. You smiled and muttered;

"Hey, what're friends for?"

After a talk on the phone, Missy was confirmed to be staying at your home until deemed that she could go home safely. It wasn't the first time that Missy had to stay over for a while. Her parents weren't exactly the best, and your parents couldn't call child services because then Missy would be taken away to relatives across the country who barely even knew she existed. Plus, the last five plus years of friendship would be for nothing if you could never see her again. You two met in school, Missy was hiding in a crevice in the hallway of the school between classes. You had convinced them to get back to class, and from then on you saw Missy around the school a lot.

You can even remember the time she officially introduced herself and you two became friends. Since it was grade school, you were out at recess sitting at the edges of the basketball court, watching the other kids play.

"It would probably be more fun if you played." A voice had said next to you. You looked over and saw Missy, who looked rather nervous, though she had sounded confident.

"No, I like watching. And, I don't want to go up by myself." You had responded. Missy scooted closer to you.

"We could go up together, or play by ourselves, wait, I mean, play together." You looked over to Missy, who was smiling. You started laughing.

"You're funny!" You had said. Missy's smile had widened, and she gained more confidence in herself after your compliment.

"I'm Missy!" She said. You smiled and introduced yourself.

"Missy, ya wanna play on the swings?" You asked, standing up and holding out a hand for the girl next to you to take. Missy had looked to be shocked at first, but then grinned, taking your hand and running towards the swings.

"I'd love to!"

That was the start of the friendship you two had. You vividly remember that moment, even though you couldn't really remember anything else from when you were younger. Maybe it was because Missy was such a huge impact on your life. You can't remember having a dull moment with her, and she's been loyal to you. She always says that you're her number one best friend, always asks you things she has trouble with and always tells you what's happening in her life first. She was the friend that took care of you when you were sick, the friend that would pat your head and say, 'Good job' when it was needed. But, she was also the friend to embarrass you and make you seem like a total dweeb in front of other people. But you knew that she meant well. You can remember one time she had told your crush that you had Deadpool underwear and would always make sure their clean so you could wear them all the time. She wasn't lying, but it was still embarrassing. You remember leaving class with a red face of embarrassment and Missy running after you laughing hysterically and apologizing.

You smiled a bit upon reminiscing on the fond memories you shared with your friend. You looked over to not see her on the couch next to you, but now in the kitchen. You sat on your knees, turned around to see what she was doing. Missy was holding an empty bag of chocolate chips and had a jar of marshmallow fluff in the other hand.

"Missy, what're you making?" You asked as she reached into your cabinet again to pull out the peanut butter.

"I do not know, but it's going to be great."

Oh, and not to forget, Missy was also the friend to bring weird things and animals to school and have the weirdest concoctions of food as snacks and lunch. You remember she brought a gecko she found to school with her. She had named it Harold and now roams the school because Missy lost him in her math class. You heard the whir of the microwave, and you got up and stood next to Missy who was watching her chocolate-peanut butter-marshmallow thing spin in the machine.

"We should dip bananas in it."

You looked to Missy who was still watching the microwave. You sighed but shrugged.

"Sure Missy, why not. If I die, I'll die being adventurous and trying new things."

A half hour later, you had eaten all of the 'Choco-Nut-Marsh', as Missy called it, had eaten a banana with it, tried it with celery, but it wasn't that good, so you two just stuck with eating the rest of the dip by itself. You both laid on opposite ends of the couch, watching the T.V. with a hazy gaze. You took a deep breath and looked to Missy, who wasn't even paying attention to the show, which was a Tennis game, which she usually could never take her eyes off of. She was staring off. She looked like she did when she was solving an equation in Math.

"Missy, you okay?" You asked, sitting up and edging closer to your friend. She didn't look at you as she spoke.

"I have to tell you something."

"Well, tell me then. . ." You said, taking one of Missy's hands in yours. She pulled her hand away and sat up. Your heart started racing, this wasn't like the friend you knew. Missy planted her feet on the floor, and rested her forearms on her thighs, her hands clasped. She stared at the floor and bounced her knee. She seemed to still be contemplating whether to tell you the thing or not. When you were about to tell her that she didn't need to say anything, Missy finally spoke up.

"I'm not staying here because of my parents." She said. She was still staring at the floor, not daring to look at you.

"Okay. . . Keep going. . ." You said, trying to keep Missy talking. She abruptly stood up and stood in front of you. She paced a bit but finally took a deep breath and finally stopped in front of you. She opened her mouth to speak but stopped. Her green eyes widened and she went to the closest window. You cocked your head to the side as you watched Missy's muscles tense as she looked down at the bustling street below.

"You're acting really weird. Are you ok-" You were cut off when Missy ran to the door and began shoving her shoes on.

"Grab shoes, we need to leave, now." She stood, her bag in hand, and went to your room. You followed her and when you got to your room, she threw a pair of shoes at you and ordered you to put them on.

"Missy-"

"Please, put on your shoes on, we need to leave through the fire escape." Missy said as she dumped your entire backpack onto your bed and began refilling it with random clothes and things. You put your shoes on and she handed you your bag and started climbing out your window to the fire escape.

"We'll go to the roof and go down the other fire escape on the other side-"

"Missy!" You interrupted her. She stared at you, her brunette bangs obscuring her green gaze.

"Tell me what's going on! I can't just leave my family!"

"I'm being followed! I'm not who you think I am." Missy stared off, but shook her head and looked at you.

"Please, come with me. I do not want anything to happen to you. You are all I have."  She said. You looked at the bag in your hand, at Missy, then to your doorway. You looked back at Missy. You went up to her.

"Okay. . . I'll go with you. But, I'm going to need you to explain everything to me." Missy nodded, grinning. She jumped out onto the fire escape and took your hand, pulling you through. You were about to follow her, but stopped and jumped back into your room and grabbed your Deadpool picture on your Treasure Wall. You were about to go back out, but you looked at the note given to you by your pencil returner mathematician. You stood there deciding for a moment, but then heard someone banging on the front door. You looked to your doorway and quickly took the note, running back out the window and going as fast as you could to the rooftop. Missy led the way to the other fire escape and made sure you were still with her.

"So, why're you being chased again?" You asked as you were both running to a nearby park where you could hide out for a bit.

"I- I'm different than other people." She said.

"What? You- You can see dead people- or something?" You said between pants as you continued running, trying to keep with you friend.

"No, nothing like that!" Missy said, slowing down as she entered the park.

"Then what?!" You said, rather loudly as you slowed down to a jog, and down to a weak walk to stand with your friend.

"There! The alien that Kraang has been looking for, for experimentation for benefit of Kraang!" A robotic like voice said from a distance.

"Not now!" Missy said as she took your hand and ran, much to your disliking, farther into the park.

"Wait-!"

You were cut off when both you and your friend were surrounded by men, who looked to all be the same person, with weird looking guns in their hands.

"The alien that Kraang is looking for along with human girl will compromise with Kraang and will accompany Kraang to Kraang base where Kraang are based." One of the men said.

"Are these the people after you?" You whispered to Missy, who nodded.

"I'm sorry that I didn't tell you." She whispered back, her backpack slipping to the ground. "I'm also sorry that this is how you find out about who I really am."

Missy closed her eyes and took a deep breath. A white light blinded you, and you closed your eyes from the brightness. When you opened them, standing in Missy's place, was a large wolf, walking on their back legs. Missy's clothes were stretched out on the wolf's body, ripping new holes and making old ones bigger. The wolf opened it's eyes and you saw a pair of bright green eyes.

"Missy?" You muttered. The wolf looked down at you and was about to speak, but couldn't when the men that surrounded you both started to close in.

"The alien Kraang are looking for and the human girl are not cooperating with Kraang. Kraang will now use force to get the alien Kraang are looking for and the human girl to come with Kraang to Kraang base where Kraang are based." The same man from before said and he started to open fire. You ducked and put your hands on your head. The wolf let out a low growl and pounced onto the man who opened fire, biting her teeth into their jugular, and ripping off it's head. You watched in horror as the head rolled near you, but you calmed down when you saw it was sparking and had wires poking out of it.

"Oh thank god they're robots."

"Get somewhere safe!" The wolf growled as they ran past you to get another robot. You nodded and started to run off, but stopped when you felt something grab your arm. You looked to see it was one of the men that called themselves Kraang, and they were pointing a gun to you. You screamed and tried to rip your arm out of it's grasp. You kicked at their legs but was to no avail. The gun the Kraang was holding started to whir, you only guessed that it was warming up and this was how you were going to die. You braced yourself for pain, but instead of hearing gunfire, you heard the sound of sparking of wires and of a machine shutting down. You looked to see that the robot's head had been knocked off. You wriggled your arm out of the robot's grasp and held your wrist. You looked up, expecting to see the wolf, but instead you found yourself looking into the red-brown eyes of a human sized turtle wearing a purple bandana around his eyes. You stared, unable to help yourself.

"Get somewhere safe, this is will all be explained later!" The turtle said, taking your arm in a three-fingered hand and pushing you to an alley way. Not comprehending anything else that was happening, you did as the talking, human-sized turtle told you. You sat in the alley, trying to understand everything that was happening.

Your friend, was a werewolf, maybe, you don't know, and was being chased by these robot things that called themselves Kraang and talk in the third person. Don't forget the talking human turtle that helped you escape from the Kraang. You were so confused.

After a while, you were jarred from your thoughts with someone shaking your shoulder. It was the same talking turtle from before. They looked a bit flustered.

"Look, before you scream, I'm not going to hurt you, I-"

"Where's Missy?" You asked, standing up from the concrete. The turtle seemed surprised that you didn't scream despite him telling you not to.

"Um-"

"The giant wolf! Her name is Missy, where is she?!" You said, grabbing the turtle's shoulders.

"Oh! She's with my brothers! Come with me!" The turtle led the way back to the park. You found Missy awkwardly standing in now even more holey and stretched out clothing. She was with three other human sized turtles, each wearing different colored bandanas wrapped around their eyes like masks, just like the other one. You ran up to her and hugged her. When you pulled away you started speaking feverishly.

"You're a werewolf?! What?! I- why wouldn't you tell me that, that's friggin' awesome!"

"I'm not a werewolf, I'm an alien that can shapeshift into-"

"An alien?! That's even cooler! Missy what the actual hecker-doodle that's like the coolest thing why wouldn't you tell me these things?!"
