-Chapter 6-
He looked at me questioningly and coughed again.
I looked into his eyes and said: ''I am Alice, we are in an old building. I think it used to be a hospital. What happened? You have to tell me what happened to you, I hurt myself on the way here trying to carry you.''
I gasped and sneezed. The air in here was not the best and there was a strong smell of something. He looked at his stomach and then lowered his gaze to the floor. In a whisper, he said: ''I...I'm Joshua.''
I noticed that it was difficult for him to speak, I wanted to stop him, but he continued: ''I was followed by some men. These men threatened me.''
Gritting his teeth, he slowly got to his feet and then cried out in pain. ''They stabbed me, I tried to run away, but my body couldn't take the pain anymore. My eyes slowly closed. I lost my balance and everything went black. Did I fall on you?''
I looked at him worriedly and nodded.
He asked me then: ''Are you alright?''
I nodded again, not knowing what to say.
Luckily, he continued: ''My younger sister was murdered a week ago and her body has still not been found. My parents were very sad and threw me out because they think I am guilty of my sister's death. These men...I don't really know them, but I worked for them.''
He stopped talking, and a tear ran down his left cheek.
Carefully, I touched his shoulder and asked him: ''Why did you work for these men?''
He turned to my face and said: "For cigarettes and alcohol...".
Then he was silent for a few seconds and said, "Sometimes for drugs also."
''I needed money...I was not that kind of boy... Until one day an older woman offered me these strange pills. I got addicted to these drugs in no time, I still regret it very much, but I need these pills...''
Somehow I felt sorry for him because I had problems with drugs and this stuff myself. I wanted to comfort him, but I had no idea how to do it.
I remembered that I had some pills in my jacket pocket. I know it's wrong and that I should stop, but something keeps me from stopping. I got up and knelt in front of Joshua and rummaged in my jacket pockets for the drugs.
How?!
I paused and lifted up the jacket. The pockets were empty! The drugs and the cigarette pack were gone.
But how could this happen?
Did it fall out when Joshua was being transported?
I exhaled in annoyance and sat down next to him. He looked at me again with a questioning look in his ocean blue eyes. I told him: ''I had some pills in my bag, they weren't the most expensive or the best, but they seem to have fallen out when we came here in the fog.''
I lowered my gaze to the ground as well.
A small smile appeared on his pained face, and he said:''We should take care of our wounds first...''
I looked at his injury and cried out. How could I forget!
He had lost a lot of blood but could still smile?
I stood up in panic and said:''My injuries are not serious, but yours are!''
He tried to stand up but fell down. No chance, he was not well. He said, "You said this building is an old hospital... Maybe there are bandages somewhere?''
He was right, I said: ''I will have a look around. Can you wait?'
He replied: ''Yes, I am fine, don't worry.''
I promised to hurry and rushed to the first door that was next to us. It was not locked. I breathed a sigh of relief and pushed the door handle down.
With a bang, the metal door handle fell to the floor and I took a few steps back in shock. Behind me, I heard Joshua's voice: "Hu...rr..y up..please..".
I thought he was fine! No time to get upset about it! I had to be bold and find bandages for his injury!
I confidently step into the room and looked around. The windows here had been nailed shut from the inside. The window panes here had also been smashed. This red mark was also visible on the floor...
This building must have a secret!
I searched the drawers and found a bandage wrapper. It was old, but still looked good. With quick steps, I ran back to Joshua. He was still conscious and looking at me.
I rushed to him and pulled off his torn T-shirt. His wound did not look good. I quickly wrapped the bandage around his waist and threw my jacket over him. He seemed better after that and fell asleep.
I let him rest and decided to keep looking around. The floor creaked again under my feet as I walked slowly down the hall. I remembered my thoughts before Joshua had woken up.
I turned to the next door, which was locked with several locks....
