Chapter Five: Suspicion
"Hurry up, Miss!" one of the kids yelled from down the hallway. You were home at last, happily limping your way inside the Leaf House with Wedge's help. Biggs had stayed behind, to make sure you weren't followed out of the facility.
The kids were thrilled that you were back, and wanted to show you everything they collected while you were gone. Wedge helped you into the room and sat you down gently on the side of your bed. There was a new filing cabinet in the corner, full of things they'd found. You had kept everything under your bed before, since you didn't have a place for them.
"[F/N]!" one girl gushed. "Look at this! Biggs left it here for you!" She proudly showed you a new red headband that was on top of the counter. You gave a pleased smile and took it from her. "Put it on!"
"Alright, alright, slow down," you laughed. "I'll put it on. Can you help me?" The girl nodded excitedly and crawled on the bed behind you. You could feel her put your hair into a ponytail and lift it up to give you room. You put the fabric up to your forehead and tied it around the side tightly. The girl let go of your hair and raced around the bed to look.
"How does it look?" you asked.
"You look like him!" A kid pointed out and gestured to Wedge. "Biggs too. You're twinning!" You gave a soft smile.
"Don't tell her she looks like a man!" another girl snapped. "[F/N] looks really pretty and awesome!"
A few of them crowded around, showing you what they found. You acknowledged, but really you were thinking about what the headband was for. You'd only seen him wearing it after he and Wedge discarded their stolen ShinRa uniforms. Was it some kind of fashion trend you were late to? You were only gone a month, so you doubted that was the case.
"Hey, [F/N], what happened to all the stuff we gave you before?" a little boy asked. They probably didn't know where you kept it, and assumed you'd gotten rid of it all.
"It's under the bed," you told him. "I didn't know I was getting a filing cabinet."
"Oh, okay!" he said in a chipper tone. "Let me get it then, since your leg hurts."
Suddenly remembering your journal was under there as well, your hurriedly stood up. "That's OK! I'll--" you yelped as you stumbled forward. Wedge gasped and reached out to catch you, successfully keeping you from falling. "I'll get it..." you finally said, embarrassed.
"Maybe you shouldn't..." Wedge suggested. You shook your head and crouched down, looking under the bed. You grabbed a small tote out from underneath and dragged it out. Your journal almost came out with it, but you slid it back under casually.
"Here they are," you announced, opening the tote. The children gaped, as you'd kept every last thing. "What'd I tell you?" Wedge held his hand out, offering to help you up. You grabbed his hand and nodded as a 'thank you'.
"Can we put them in your cabinet now?" one of the kids asked. You just nodded. They slid the tote over to the cabinet and began sorting everything. You watched, still feeling anxious about your journal. You couldn't get the past month of your mind. What if Reno or the other Turks said too much to Biggs behind closed doors?
"Looks like we're all having fun in here," you turned around upon hearing Biggs's voice at the door. He was standing there, leaning against the doorframe.
You only nodded in response with a small, "Hey." He walked in and sat next to you.
"What's going on?" he asked. You turned your attention back to the kids.
"They're putting more stuff in my cabinet," you told him. "I had more stuff they didn't know about apparently." He nodded and looked back at them.
"Oops!" a girl exclaimed. She was stumbling with her hands full before she dropped a materia on the floor and watched it roll under the bed. More fell out of her hands and all the kids stopped to help her pick them up.
She crawled under the bed to retrieve it, but came out with your journal in hand instead. Your eyes widened slightly.
"[F/N], what's this?" she asked. A few more kids gathered around.
"A diary?" A bunch of 'ooooh's could be heard from them. "Do you write about your crush or something?"
You didn't really think you had a crush, but your face lit up despite that. "That's not something adults write about, [K/N]!" Knowing your real name was on it, you added, "And I don't have a diary."
"Whose name is this?" The kid asked. "I can't read it." As he began annunciating, you quickly but gently swiped the journal from him.
"Let me see!" you insisted with a wry smile. "I don't know whose this is..." you said, even though you were reading your own first name. It was a good thing your last one wasn't embedded in the front.
"[Y/N]?" Biggs said. "That's the name that Turk kept mentioning. Come to think of it, isn't that President ShinRa's daughter?"
"Yeah, but that's such a common name here." It wasn't. "Did you teach a girl by the name once?"
"Not that I know of, no," he thought for a second. Your recovery wasn't the smoothest, but he seemed perplexed all the same. Though you knew he was probably dubious of you.
"You can just keep it as something you've collected!" A girl beamed. "Here!" You handed her the journal and she fitted it into your cabinet. You sighed internally, hoping the subject had dissipated.
"[F/N]..." Biggs started. "We need to talk."
He knew. There was no other explanation. Was he going to make you leave? Turn you in? All you could do was nod and stay calm, praying that by some miracle that wasn't the case. "We'll be back," he told the kids. The both of you stood up and he helped you out into the hallway.
"Is... Something wrong?"
"Everything's fine," he reassured you. "I see the kids have you your bandana." he pointed out.
"Oh. Mhm." You nodded, grabbing the fabric hanging from the knot you tied.
"Looks good on you."
"Thanks."
"So, I plan on leaving the Leaf House." he said. You tilted your head. "Miss Folia will be taking over. I want you to come with me."
"Where?"
"Sector 7."
"Why Sector 7?" You asked. You were sure you'd passed through there on the way to Sector 5. It wasn't nearly as nice or peaceful.
"I'm joining an eco-terrorist group," he finally admitted, his voice lowered. "Called Avalanche."
"A what called what?!" you exclaimed.
"Hush!" he whisper-shouted, gesturing for you to keep your voice down.
"Oh, no, no, no, no, no," you raved. "Biggs, do you have any idea how dangerous that is? Why would you do that?" You put your hands on his shoulders, looking worriedly into his eyes.
"Of course I do. It's to take down ShinRa. What else would I become a terrorist for?" he protested. "And what are you, my mother?"
"No, but you certainly didn't come to me about this first!"
"Okay, valid, Miss Kidnapped-By-ShinRa-Officials. I was talking to Wedge about it while you were gone."
"I hate ShinRa just as much-if not more-than you do, but still, that's almost suicide. It's asinine!" You clamored.
"Are you coming with me or not?" He asked, raising a brow. You sighed and crossed your arms.
"Of course I'm coming with you," you scoffed. "I just don't know about the whole terrorism thing..."
"I've already got a place there. Sector 7 specifically because our base is there. If you're not sure about Avalanche, you can stay busy by joining the Neighborhood Watch." You sighed with a nod.
"I'm probably gonna visit here more often than not though," you said.
"That's fine," he replied. "I'm hesitant about leaving too. I'm gonna miss em'. Our first mission isn't for about a year, so we'll make plenty of trips."
"Good," you huffed. You were a little iffy about everything, but relieved at the same time. "Is that all?" You could tell he was a little disheartened seeing that he made you upset, but you didn't wanna call him out of embarrass him.
"That's all," he nodded. "We oughta tell the kids though..." That would be the hard part. You never wanted to get attached to a bunch of kids, but you did. You knew at least some of them would be distraught, and you were as well.
The both of you went back to your room and set back down on your bed. The kids were finishing up with your stuff.
"Hey, guys," Biggs started awkwardly. You could tell he felt bad.
"We have some news for you."
