Chapter 5: Challenges
Gray's POV
"Move."
"No, you move first."
"... Are you serious?"
"Of course I am. I got this first."
And we had a staring contest. We all decided to eat first and surprisingly, Natsu chose an All-You-Can-Eat buffet at a restaurant here at the Town Mall. And right now, Juvia and I were eyeing on the last piece of chicken nugget on a plate. Our chopsticks are on the chicken nugget and we had a deadly staring contest.
"Fullbuster, move your hand away. I clearly got it first." She said in a serious tone.
While I replied in my low and husky voice, "No. I got it first so you should be the one who needs to let go first."
Others looked at us as if they were pitying the two of us. Heck, it's even worse at school you dorks. Though, we kinda looked like kids who are fighting over a piece of chicken nugget.
Still, I won't lose.
"Sheesh, stop acting childish you two. Here, Gray. You can take mine. Let Juvia take the other one." Natsu suddenly appeared in the middle of us and gave me one of his chicken nuggets.
And that's when Juvia quickly snatched the chicken nugget we were fighting for earlier. She smirked as she took a bite on the chicken nugget as she gave me a wink and walks out.
Ugh, I swear that that girl gets on my nerve all the time.
I sighed furiously and walked to an empty table and started eating. I should've gone home. Yes, I should've but I couldn't resist the snow cones. Natsu better buy me snow cones later or else he'll get it.
So, I guess I'll waste an entire day with Natsu and his girlfriend and his girlfriend's best friend who is one of the people I despise.
.
.
.
Damn. It.
"Gray, sorry about my friend. She's just the type who doesn't want to get close to guys." Lucy said as she took a seat opposite from mine. "You see, she—"
"Hon! Help me finish all of these." And Natsu appeared. He was holding 2 plates full of food. Sheesh. What's with his stomach? And what? He wants Lucy to help him finish it?
Lucy sighed. "Natsu, I can't believe you. Anyway, I should accompany Juvia in the other table since she doesn't want to eat here." She stood up and left the two of us hanging right here.
What does she want to say to me before Natsu came?
***
"Time for shopping~!" Lucy cheered and even clapped her hands in excitement. We're at the department store right now and I already feel bored.
"Does this look good on me?" Natsu asked as he grabbed a red sweater and he aligns it with his body to check if it fits him.
I heard Juvia sighing so I took a glance at her. Her earphones were at her ears and I bet it's in a lower volume since she could hear Natsu and Lucy talking. "They shouldn't have invited us. They could've done this by themselves."
"Yeah." That slipped out from my mouth.
We both stared at each other.
.
.
.
I glared and she glared back. Why did I answer her? I should've ignored her. I quickly looked away from her before she says something else or before Natsu and Lucy could notice something.
"Juvia, Juvia! Don't you think that this will suit you~?" Lucy asked and raises up a baby blue skater dress with a white belt on the waist. Hm, it looks cute but I don't know if the one's wearing it is cute as well.
"Lucy, you do know that I don't wear dresses, right?" Juvia retorted and looked disgusted at the dress. "And it's short... It should've been at least until my feet."
"That's not a dress anymore, it's a gown." Lucy retorted back and sweat dropped at her friend.
"And that's why you don't have a boyfriend." I said in the middle of their conversation. "Maybe that's why the one you like doesn't notice you."
"Wha—?!" Lucy was taken aback and she lowers the dress down. She looked confused. "Gray, you know who Juvia likes? She told you?"
"No, I don't. Why would I tell him something like that?" Juvia said and folded her arms. "He doesn't care about how a girl looks. He's caring, lovable, and handsome at the top of that."
"I don't know anyone else who's handsome in our school than me though."
.
.
.
There was a long pause of silence.

After shopping, Natsu suggested that we should go to an arcade and tire ourselves out. Thanks to Natsu and Lucy, we have a lot of tokens right here.
I inserted a token in a game where you can use guns to kill the enemy. I grabbed the gun and right at that, the START word showed right up and that's when I began shooting the enemies. It's a really simple game, to be honest. Just shoot those weird looking guys and don't shoot your companions or friends.
I'm rocking this game.
"Die, you freak." I said as I pressed my gun to kill a zombie that was about to eat me. I am cringing right here.
"... I never knew that you're so..." Juvia appeared by my side and looked at my game with her arms folded.
Now what? Have you finally realized that I'm a great and cool guy? Well, I'm—
"... Bad at this kind of game." She bluntly said.
.
.
.
"What?!" I asked her after I finished the game in a few seconds. I put the gun back to where it's placed and pinched the bridge of my nose. It was so unexpected. I thought she was going to compliment and acknowledge my strength.
She smirked. "In just a mere 5 minutes, you only killed 87 zombies and enemies. Tsk. You're so unexperienced when it comes to this kind of game. Even I could do better than you."
"Hm? Is that a challenge I hear?" I asked and raised an eyebrow at her.
She smirked even wider and walked to my other side as she grabbed the other gun. "Bring it on, Fullbuster. Let's play. If I win, you better admit that I'm better than you."
"Same to you." I smirked back as we both inserted tokens inside the machine. I cooly took my gun again and prepared to shoot at the zombies. She wasn't preparing at all and instead, her hand is on her waist and her other hand that's holding her gun is lowered down.
I rolled my eyes off of her and focused in the game. It's not going to be my fault if she loses this one.
I gripped on my gun when the word START showed up and I began shooting at the zombies appearing. She started shooting as well and maintained her stance as if she was a pro at this.
Tsk tsk. Looks like I will win this challenge. I find myself smirking evilly as I continued on shooting at them.
~•5 minutes later•~
Gray: 125 kills
Juvia: 155 kills
I groaned and I placed the gun back. She smirked in satisfaction and looked at me with a smug look. "See? I won this one, didn't I?"
"I don't know about that. Let's try a different game." I suggested. I can't let myself lose to her. I can't let that happen. "How about the shooting game here? Basketball."
"Are you sure?"
Oh how I want to wipe that smile off of her face. She was asking me as if she's better than me at basketball and shooting balls.
"Of course. I'm sure that you'll lose at this one." I said and lifted my head up high, as if I was belittling her. "So... Game?"
"Game then." She said and flipped a token high and caught it with a smirk appearing on her face.
~•A few minutes later•~
The game lasted for about 13 minutes or so and the results are...
Gray: 38 shoots
Juvia: 45 shoots
I twitched my eyes at the said result. How?! How can that happen?? I should've been better than her at basketball. I faced her while she was looking at her nails. "Hey Lockser. You must've used some kind of a dirty trick or cheat. Tell me about it honestly."
"Oh no, no, no. A challenge is a challenge. Why would I result to cheating?" She asked and folded her arms again. "So? Admit that I'm better than you."
"Hold that thought. We're still not done. We only had 2 games so far and we should add more, don't you think so?" I said and looked around at the different games in the arcade. I bet I can challenge her to all of these.
"Sure. Just don't cry if you lose." She bluntly said and walked ahead of me. "I'll choose the next game, by the way. It's a bit unfair if you keep on choosing them."
"Fine." I said.
***
How. Could. This. Happen.
I challenged her to several different games and how come I never won even once against her?! Just what the heck is wrong with this girl?? Is she that powerful??
I gripped on my fists in frustration and looked at her. "Hey, you better—"
I stopped from talking when I saw her breathing heavily. She was holding her chest and her other hand is on the wall as she tried to catch her breath. I was taking aback on what was happening with her.
"H-Hey, are you okay?" I asked and approached her.
She raised her hand up, gesturing that I should stop from walking. She takes out quickly something from her bag and puts it on her mouth and sprays it inside. After doing so, she seemed to be breathing better than earlier.
She sighed in relief and puts it back on her bag. "What? Still want to challenge me?"
I didn't know what I should say or what I should react.
.
.
.
I swear that that's an inhaler.

Fairy Tail manga just ended yesterday: July 21, 2017. 💔 I hope Mashima continues it.
Anyway, how is the story so far? I was planning to make this a short story but who knows, maybe I'll change my mind?
