Alexis' POV

Elijah never called and Rebekah decided to come with me. We arrived safely and she takes me to their old house here. I kept Adrianna hidden as Rebekah dealt with vampires that tried to attack us. It's great having an original for a bodyguard.

She rants on the phone to Elijah's voice mail while I head for the front door. "Elijah, if not answering your phone is part of your clever plan to get me back to this godforsaken city, then well done. I'm here with Alexis and Adrianna. We're worried. Now pick up before I kick in your bloody door" she states.

I roll my eyes and enter the mansion. To see Hayley wielding a fire iron. "Already turning into a fine mother" I tell her smiling as I take Adrianna out of her harness.

"Alexis? Who the hell is that?" she asks me confused.

"Oh, where are my manners. Hayley Rebekah Mikaelson, Rebekah Hayley the pregnant wolf" I state. Placing Adrianna on my hip.

"Right. You're that werewolf girl my brother, Klaus, knocked up. I was expecting to see some kind of supernatural, miracle baby bump. Guess you're not showing yet" Rebekah states.

"You have your brother's manners" Hayley tells her referring to Klaus.

"And his temper, too, so watch it. Where's Elijah?" Rebekah asks her.

"Beats me. He's long gone" Hayley states.

"What do you mean by 'long gone'?" I ask her.

"Well, one minute he was here making epic promises about protecting me in this predicament that a bottle of scotch and some bad decisions got me into. He was all poetic about how we're family and then Klaus told me he bailed. Guess that's what I get for trusting a vampire" Hayley states.

"Elijah is not just any vampire, and he doesn't break promises. Not to anyone, and especially not to me" I tell her. I cover Adrianna's ears.

"Which means Niklaus has done something dastardly and Klaus-like. Klaus! Get out here and tell me what you've done with our brother, you narcissistic, back-stabbing wanker!" Rebekah calls. I give her a look, but say nothing.

Klaus opens a pair of doors and enters the room. "Enough with all the shouting. Little sister, I should have known. I assume the six dead vampires were your doing?" he asks.

"They were very rude" she tells him shrugging her shoulders. "Trying to victimize two poor, innocent girls just trying to find their way to the Quarter with a baby. So sorry, were they friends of yours? Oh, that's right, you don't have any friends" she states.

"I do have friends. I have Marcel. You remember him, don't you? Yes, of course you do. He fancies himself the 'King of the Quarter' now, and he has these rules about killing vampires. It'll be fun to see what sort of punishment he comes up with for you" he says smirking at her.

"I don't care about Marcel or his rules" she tells him.

"Neither do I" I state looking up at Kaus. "Elijah doesn't welsh on deals. What did you do to him Klaus?" I demand.

"What makes you think I did anything luv?" he asks me fawning innocence. "Perhaps he's on holiday... or taking a long autumn nap upstairs" he suggests. Then looks at Rebekah. "Well, go on. Take a look around. You remember this house as well as I" he tells her as he heads for the front door.

"I remember everything" she tells him coolly. His phone buzzes and he looks at it. Before heading for the front door again. "Where are you going?" she asks him.

"It appears the night is not quite over, yet. I'm off for another drink with Marcel" he states.

"Elijah told us about your plan to take apart Marcel's empire piece by piece. I don't remember it involving you two drinking New Orleans dry together" Rebekah tells him.

"I know you don't have many friends, Rebekah, but what some friends do when they get together is they drink. And when they drink, they tell secrets. Marcel has somehow found a way to control the entirety of witches in the Quarter, and I aim to uncover the 'how' so I might take it for myself. Finding Elijah didn't make my to-do list today" he tells her. "Oh, and welcome home, little sister" he adds before leaving.

"You, wolf girl. I'm going to search this house inch by inch until I find what my evil brother has done to my good one. You're helping" Rebekah tells Hayley.

"What about me Rebekah? He's my husband" I remind her.

"Go to his room and unpack" she tells me. "I'll come find you later" she assures me.

"Fine, but I want my husband back Rebekah" I tell her. Only agreeing as Adrianna is tired and needed sleep.

"We'll find him" she assures me before leaving the room with Hayley.

"Guess it's just us Adrianna, lets go unpack" I tell my daughter. She gargles happily, without a care in the world. I smile kissing her cheek. I go upstairs and find Elijah's room. I place Adrianna on the bed surrounded by pillows. Then start unpacking.

(Time skip)

"Do you know where Rebekah and Hayley are?" Klaus demands as he enters the room. I had finished unpacking and was reading a book. While Adrianna slept.

"Last I heard, searching for Elijah my husband" I tell him annoyed. "I've been here unpacking and settling in" I state. Closing the book.

"You say that a lot around me" he says smirking.

"What?" I ask him as I put the book down.

"That Elijah is your husband" he states.

"Because he is" I tell him as I get to my feet.

"Who are you reminding luv? Me or you?" he asks. I give him a pointed look.

"I love Elijah Klaus, I'd never cheat on him ever" I state. I hear the front door open. "The others are home" I tell him and leave the room with Adrianna. We reach the foyer to see a pail of dead vampire bodies. "Seriously Rebekah?" I ask her.

"They tried to kill Hayley" she says with a shrug. Klaus growls in annoyance and starts a fire in the courtyard. He starts to burn the bodies. He berates Rebekah and Hayley for their behavior.

"This is why I told you never to leave the house. Werewolves are banned in the Quarter. I had a plan, and your little nighttime stroll put it all in peril! Leave him!" Klaus demands when Rebekah headed towards a guy that was still alive. "You've done enough, don't you think? Leaving a trail of bodies like a road map to my door?" he asks her.

"If I hadn't overheard this lot bragging about werewolf heads, everyone here would be screwed. And don't give me that crap about having a plan. You've had all the time in the world to execute a plan, and no one's seen you do a damn thing! Elijah made a deal to protect your child, so that it could save you from your selfish, rotten self. But you obviously don't give a damn about the child or Elijah, because what have you done to honor it?" Rebekah demands.

"I have done everything. Let me spell it out for you, shall I? From the day I arrived, Marcel hasn't trusted me. From Day One, he's had his vampires ingest toxic vervain which, as you know, little sister, protects them from my mind control" Klaus sneers.

"I needed a spy, someone on the inside with me who Marcel would never suspect. So, I created a Day Zero and got there first. Marcel had just lost six vampires, thanks to your little murder spree, and he needed new recruits. So, I made the new one mine, before he'd had even a drop of vervain" he explains.

"But we all know the real way to a man is through his heart, so I found a human girl he is sweet on. And compelled her to give him a chance" he states. "And this one – I'm gonna drain him of vervain, compel him to believe his mates found religion and moved to Utah, so that he can explain to Marcel why he lost three more vampires tonight" he adds grabbing the still living vampire. He drags the vampire into the house and we follow him.

"Does anyone have any more questions? No? Good, because I have a question" he states turning to Hayley. "Hayley, what were you doing in the bloody French Quarter in the first place? Answer me" he tells her.

"Leave her be" Rebekah tells him.

"You wanna know what I was doing? I was buying poison, so I could put your little baby out of its misery" Hayley snaps. Klaus runs at her with vampire speed and pins her to the door by the neck. She gasps for air.

"Klaus, let her go!" I shout. Rebekah runs at Klaus with vampire speed, pushes him off of Hayley and grabs him by the shoulders. Hayley coughs and splutters, massaging her throat. As I rub her back soothingly.

"Keep your hands off her! She is pregnant, for God's sake! All of this bluster about not wanting the child, and then the second she tells you she's ready to get rid of it? It's okay to care. It's okay to want something. That's all Elijah was trying to do, all he's ever wanted for you. All we've ever wanted" Rebekah tells him.

Klaus, calmed down but reeling from being confronted with his feelings, sits down on the stairs. Rebekah sits down beside him. While I helped Hayley to her feet. "I gave Elijah to Marcel" Klaus tells us.

"What?" Rebekah and I demand as I glare at him.

"Marcel was nervous. It's bad enough one Original returned to town, but two? His crew was getting antsy. He wanted Elijah gone, so... I gave him a peace offering" he explains.

"You bartered my husband?" I demand. At the same time Rebekah asks 'you bartered our brother?' I am beyond pissed.

"I have a plan. Gain Marcel's trust, dismantle his empire, honor Elijah's wish that that baby be born. I am executing that plan the only way I know how. If you don't like it, there's the door. See if I care" he tells us and left the room.

"I know you don't know me very well... but thanks. I appreciate what you did in there" Hayley tells Rebekah.

"Us girls have got to look out for each other" Rebekah tells her.

"Especially with your little one on the way and mine upstairs" I tell her.

"What is it with you two? You say you hate him, but the way you deal with him, it's so clear. Even when you hate him, you still love him" Hayley asks Rebekah. I leave them alone to talk. I go check on Adriana and see her sound asleep. I smile and change into my pjs. She starts to thrush around. I sit beside her and sing softly.

"And if that horse and cart turn round
You'll still be the sweetest little babe in town (be the sweetest litte babe)
Still be the sweetest little babe in town
La, la, la, la, la, la" I finish and she fast asleep.

"How do you do it?" Hayley asks.

"What?" I ask her.

"Make parenting look so easy?" she asks me.

"It's not, I made plenty of mistakes along the way" I tell her. "Went to a dance and she was kidnapped by Elijah's mother Esther. After that we were both kidnapped by a hunter. Then I died. While in transition we were taken to a house by Pastor Young and held hostage. Things only got better when I reunited with Elijah" I tell her.

"You really love him" she says.

"I do, when I returned to Mystic Falls after he and I married. My baby's life was threaten by a bar full of newbie vampires. We returned to Elijah and things were peaceful again" I tell her. "He makes our lives better, safer" I state. "He adores Adrianna, I wish I could give him a child of his own. Who knows maybe one day we'll adopt. But first we have to get him back from Marcel" I state.

"I'm just scared I won't be a good mother" she tells me.

"You already have a mother's protective instinct, the rest comes with time and practice" I tell her. "You can help me look after Adrianna. Even though she's a baby, she has the wolf gene. It's not safe for her in the Quarter" I state.

"You sure?" she asks me.

"I trust you" I tell her with a smile. "Now it's time we got some sleep, good night" I tell her. She wishes me a good night and goes to her room. I lay beside Adrianna holding her close. "We'll get him back" I promise her. Before falling into a dreamless sleep.
