You and Bucky are best friends, and inevitably you began to grow strong feelings for him. Not wanting to get let down you hide your feelings. Steve sets Bucky up on a blind date and you get jealous.
Setting; Awhile after CW
Your heart was pacing rapidly, forehead sweating uncontrollably, as your stomach twisted and turned.
Your mouth fell agape as you stared at the tv screen in awe, waiting for the next scene to happen as you popped a piece of popcorn in your mouth, digging into the buttery bag. You knew what was about to happen couldn't possibly be good, just by how the episode was already panning out.
And that was until something happened, leaving the episode of [Y/F/TV/SHOW] on a huge, inevitable cliffhanger.
"No!" You raged, instinctively jumping to your feet as you dropped the popcorn bag you were once holding to the ground. "They can't do that!"
You mentally cursed yourself for watching all of the seasons of that show in two days, your Netflix marathon binge coming to a close as the next season wouldn't be available for a few months. You groaned in pure frustration, hands racking through your hair frustratedly.
"Y/N?" A voice suddenly called out, the faint sound echoing down the hall as you kept your feet rooted onto the ground, eyes locked on the home screen of the Netflix page. You didn't blink, you didn't flinch. Too many enraging thoughts ran through your inner fan-girl brain.
That's until a tall, broad figure suddenly appeared in the hallway doorframe, their feet approaching you almost quickly.
"Y/N? Are you alright? I heard you yelling."
Your head suddenly snapped in the direction of the worried voice, your eyes now landing on a blonde haired super soldier, who just so happened to be your best friend.
"No. I'm not fine." You seethed, fists balling up tightly as you weakly stomped your foot on the ground, face etched with annoyance.
"What happ—" Steve began to speak, but you reluctantly cut him off, being the pistol that you are. "They ended [Y/F/TV/SHOW] on a huge ass cliffhanger! Now what am I supposed to do with my life!?" You exclaimed, exasperation settling in as you fell down into the couch behind you in desperation.
Steve looked at you incredulously, his large hands sat sloppily against his hips as he began to shake his head, pinching two fingers in-between the bridge of his nose.
"I don't understand tv shows, or this Netflix you watch. You get so attached to these fictional people, I don't get it. I don't get technology." Steve said causally, as he began to make headway towards the avengers lounge couch that you just happened to be sprawled across.
Just that comment let alone made you fall into a fit of giggles. You clutched your stomach tightly, as your squinted close. You suddenly forgot all about your show.
"It's because you're old, grandpa." You teased, laughter still erupting from your throat as you sat up, only to have Steve plop down next to you, frowning.
"I just came in here to check to see if you were alright and I'm honestly feeling so attacked right now." He gasped, placing a hand on his heart as he looked at you shockingly.
You began to laugh again, tilting your head back as you found his attempt at modern slang humorous. But that's only because you knew who he truly was. A 96 year old super soldier.
"Sorry, Stevie. TV shows just make me emotional." You sighed, running your fingers through your hair as you propped your elbow up on the back of the couch, looking over to your best friend, who always knew when to cheer you up. Steve just smiled.
Sometimes, you'd just stare at Steve and wonder how the hell you ended up where you were.
One day you were just a normal girl, working downtown New York City in an office as an assistant for the low-key parts of S.H.I.E.L.D, with Sharon Carter as your boss. She had always treated you well, even though she was strict at times, you admired her.
That's until you got promoted a year later, from assistant to secretary. But not just anyone's secretary, Maria Hill's right hand secretary. Maria saw your potential, you were very smart and quick at tasks, and you got documents done in a flick of a switch. There was just something different about you that caught her eye.
It was an honor, but you truly had no idea what you were setting yourself up for. There were only so many people that got hand picked for positions in the S.H.I.E.L.D headquarters, and you were one of those lucky people.
But that came with a huge price, you had to constantly work out and train, not just for your job but for your life. You had to learn to defend yourself and fight in case anything happened, but soon enough, it became a second nature to you. You could whip out a gun and knock somebody out in less than a second, Sharon helping with that defense.
You were, what they could call, a pro. And that's why Maria later on positioned you, and only you, to become Captain America and the Winter Soldiers assistant.
When you first heard of the news, you were flabbergasted. After all it's not an everyday occurrence that you get the privilege to become an assistant for two superheroes.
But of course, you had your speculations and concerns. After all, you would be spending a lot of time in the Avengers Headquarters Tower where everyone lived, and not only that but you would be spending a lot of time near two super soldier best friends who practically saved the world for a living. But, with saving the world, you sometimes don't always have the time to sort out certain things and prioritize stuff, which is why you were there, to help the two get through those things easier, so it wasn't so much of a burden.
All the Avengers had assistants to help out, but they weren't all like you. Scratch that, none of them were like you.
Bucky and Steve took a great liking to you, and not too long after did you become best friends with the two. You guys became inseparable, literally. You enjoyed each other's company way too much.
But you weren't just an assistant for them anymore, you were practically apart of the Avengers team now. Everyone loved you, they welcomed you with open arms and everyone took a great liking to you and your personality. You became great friends with everyone and hung out all the time, as sometimes you would be the brains of an operation for a mission they all had to go on. You were like family to them now.
After a year, you moved into the Avengers tower and were suddenly apart of everything. You were all a team now.
But, unfortunately, you ended up developing quite a huge crush on Bucky, but you never possibly thought that those feelings could be returned, so you almost always shoved the idea of you guys being together to the back of your mind. You, Steve, and Buck were the three best friends that could never be split apart, and you didn't want your petty feelings to get in the way and ruin that.
That's why you've never mentioned them to Steve, and that's why he's sometimes the most clueless person on this entire planet, next to Bucky. You were particularly closer to Steve, more so than Bucky, but that's only because you could barely keep composure when you were around Bucky. You sometimes couldn't form words and he made you go crazy, which is why you sometimes kept your distance from him.
But just thinking about Bucky made your heart swell, and eyes sparkle. He always made you feel some type of way, it's because of those damn blue eyes, and damn messy hair. His damn sweet words and that damn metal arm. Damn him.
"Y/N."
"Y/N?"
"Y/N!"
"What?" You suddenly snapped, eyes locking onto Steve's fleetingly as he stared at you bewildered. Completely unaware because you were in a total daze, the super soldier had been calling your name for the past two minutes practically.
"I was just trying to tell you something, but you zoned out." Steve chuckled, extending his arms out over the back of the couch headrest, as he crossed one ankle over his knee, glancing at you nonchalantly.
You instantly covered your face, cheeks becoming hot red. "Ah, I'm sorry, Steve. I just zoned out. What were you saying?" You said meekly, a small smile creeping up onto your lips as you embarrassingly uncovered your face.
Steve shook his head with a smile. "Just forget it, it's not that important." He informed you. A grunt escaped your lips, as you sat up, setting your elbows against your knees as the palms of your hands held your face. "You sure?" You ask.
Steve shrugged and you rolled your eyes. Captain America, was sometimes one of the most confusing people on this planet. One of the most. Bucky had claimed that title much more victoriously.
As the thought of Bucky crossed your mind, your eyes wandered around the room, eyebrows suddenly furrowing together.
"Where's Buck?" You ask, trying to hide the smile that was daring to peek through. The blonde headed soldier raised an eyebrow, before he shook it off and sat up straighter, excitement clearly evident throughout his eyes.
"Well, about that. So you know how he's just kinda been mopey lately?" He queried, as you nodded your head, recalling the past few weeks. "Yeah." You replied.
"Well the poor guy hasn't been on a date since 1941. So, I came up with a plan." Steve spoke, eyebrows wiggling at you as you endeared closer, heart suddenly racing. Oh no, did Steve find out about your feelings? Has he caught on? You bean to worry rapidly.
"Well, I set him up with a date! Took some convincing, after a few days, but I finally got the old guy out on the scenes again." Steve smiled, clasping his hands together proudly.
You suddenly felt your heart slam against your rib cage, and not in the good way. You felt a painful lump form in your throat, blood suddenly burning.
"Oh." You spoke, barely able to speak as your voice lightly cracked at the one syllable word.
'How could I have been so stupid?' You thought. Even though these past few weeks Bucky has been kind of distant, you guys had a few moments and sometimes you questioned whether or not he could possibly like you back. But that was now confirmed for you, that, he in fact, didn't.
Clearly oblivious to your feelings, Steve went on rambling. "The girl is really pretty, and nice too. Her names Rose, I met her at one of Tony's parties awhile ago. I think Buck will really like her. They're actually out on their date right now." He says, feeling proud as he pretended to play matchmaker for his best friend since childhood.
You weren't sure on what to do, you just felt your heart crack more and more by the second. Bucky wasn't yours, Y/N. But then again why were you feeling so upset, sad, angered almost?
Oh, well that's a little thing we like to call jealously.
"Y/N? Are you alright?" Steve suddenly spoke, eyes etched with concern, as he studied your facial expression.
Clearly, if you had a mirror at this moment, only then would you be able to see the stern expression you were enabling. You were grabbing onto the couch cushion firmly, cheeks hotter than before.
Finally, you broke out of your saddened daze, and forced the most fake smile you could muster.
"I'm great! Actually, why would you be asking?" You dangerously smiled, sarcasm drifting off every last word that left your lips as you stared at Steve with an almost deathly smile.
Steve raised an eyebrow, confusion ridding. Clearly he wasn't getting the memo, even though he was slightly suspicious. After all, he never once stopped to think about your feelings for Bucky, he just thought you must feel the same for him as you do Steve, a best friend. Nothing more. But that certainly wasn't the case, and he was beginning to catch on.
"Are you sure? Because I'm pretty sure that—"
A booming voice suddenly called out throughout the floor, interjecting Steve immediately as you jumped slightly in fright. You felt quite vulnerable at the moment and you felt as if anything could push you over the edge now.
"Hey! I'm back!"
That voice made your heart skip a bit, but made it sink instantly after the realization of reality hit you.
You never meant to fall for the brainwashed assassin asset who had the mysterious metal arm and steel blue eyes. But, you did. And it was just about the most magical yet worst thing to happen to you.
"Oh, in here, Buck!" Steve called back, wavering his hand in an unnecessary manner as he was looking towards the doorway, before he reluctantly glanced back at you.
"You alright?" He asked yet again, and this time, there was no point in masking your pain. He saw right then in there, your eyes gave it all away as you stared him, almost pleading for him to allow you to get up and leave, but then it was too late.
Not one, but two figures suddenly appeared in the lounge; one belonged to the man you loved with all of your heart and the other to a girl, who adorned a slightly tight and short dress, with long, straightened hair.
She looked nothing like you.
She had on a pretty dress, as you adorned a pair of sweatpants with one one of Bucky's oversized t-shirts on the your top half. You suddenly felt very insecure, but, you were a pro at hiding your feelings, so that wasn't a problem.
You could faintly inhale the scent of Bucky's cologne, the smell suddenly became intoxicating as you felt yourself slowly drown in a bottomless hole.
There he was, with his date. That wasn't you. You hated to be jealous, or even envious, but you were. Which made your heart sink even lower as you noticed his left arm attached around the girls waist lightly.
"Steve, I want you all to meet—Oh, Y/N. Hey." Bucky began to say, stopping in his tracks as his eyes landed upon you shockingly. He felt his heart pound beneath his chest at the sight of you.
"Hi." You said happily, almost too enthusiastically. But on the inside you felt like you couldn't breathe.
Bucky felt speechless, as he nervously ran a hand through his hair. He glanced over at the girl, who smiled.
"This is Rose. She uh, just wanted wanted to uh, see the tower. So I showed her around after dinner." Bucky said meekly, taking his hand off of the girls waist and shifting his body awkwardly, eyes looking anywhere but yours.
Roses's gaze caught onto yours, and she slightly glared at you, before looking over to Bucky.
Steve awkwardly cleared his throat, as his stood up from his fable position. But you stayed planted on the couch, you couldn't be bothered to move.
"Oh! Right, um, Rose, this is Y/N. My best friend. Y/N, this is Rose."
"I know." You and Rose suddenly said in unison, a slight glaring contest going on between you two before you scolded yourself mentally. Steve and Bucky watched the encounter awkwardly as you smiled.
"Hey Rose, nice to see you again! Hope you enjoyed the tour here." Steve interjected, putting on his famous smile as he walked up to the two. You just wanted the world to swallow you whole.
"Yeah, it's nice. Looks expensive." Rose says, her pink lips turning upwards. Bucky's eyes land on yours once again, as his heart suddenly leaped.
Gosh, were you beautiful.
The way your hair was pulled up into a messy bun, eyebrows furrowed as you wore his shirt.
He was undeniably in love with you.
But he couldn't tell you that.
It seemed like the latter couldn't either.
You tore your gaze away from his, being to painful to bear. "Yeah, it is expensive. Well, I don't want to hold you guys up from your fun little tour, so I'll just leave you guys be. Nice to meet you, Rose." You plastered a deceiving, yet believable smile against your lips as you stood up on your feet, avoiding everyone's awkward gaze as you quickly walked into the kitchen, which wasn't too far away.
Leaving Bucky and Steve completely flabbergasted, you finally felt like you could breathe as you exited the room, collapsing onto one of the kitchen stools, body slumping.
You felt your insides burn, but your heart was falling into pieces. You were very upset, all you wanted to do was scream and cry.
But, the truth was, Bucky was upset also. Why? Because it was you who he wanted to go on a date with.
The reason why Bucky was so un-reluctant to go on this blind date was because he wanted to ask you out. He has had feelings for you ever since he met you that first day, he could never get you out of his mind. You left tracing scars on him, not physically, but mentally. The only kind of scars he has never had before.
He finally agreed to go on the date because he never thought that he would ever be worthy enough to be with you. He thought you deserved so much better than a brainwashed, ex-murder who has a metal arm and horrible nightmares. He wanted you to have the best. Which is why he left, that's the reason why he walked straight out the door to go on a date with Rose.
But your sarcastic remarks and unusual sense of behavior made something deter in Bucky's mind;
He knew you too well.
Could you be?
No.
You weren't.
But you were.
You were jealous.
Bucky pressed a small smile, as the very thought raced through his mind.
Bucky watched Steve lead Rose towards the door, as he quietly walked over near the kitchen, before he stood behind the wall that connected to the doorway, to try and compose himself. He slightly smirked to himself, before he turned the corner and patted in smoothly.
"You think it worked?" Rose feebly whispered, one foot stepping out into the hallway as her and the super soldier reached the door. Steve glanced around, making sure his best friends weren't in earshot. He turned his head back to Rose, with a smile. "I think so. If we here them shouting, then definitely, yeah." He chuckled, and Rose smiled, before she bid her goodbyes and walked away.
You heard the shuffling of footsteps, so as common sense crept up inside of you, you quickly stood up, masking the pure look of frustration on your face as you walked over to the refrigerator.
Bucky reluctantly waltzed in, holding one hand behind his neck as his gaze landed upon you.
You felt his hot eyes burning a hole beneath the back of your head, so you quickly snatched a water bottle from the fridge and turned around, only to be face to face with the one and only Janes Buchanan Barnes.
"Hey, doll." He whispered, which suddenly sent your goosebumps into a frenzy. His voice was so soft, so pure, yet husky.
His once signature smirk tilted against his lips, as his eyes trailed from your forehead, all the way down to your lips.
"What do you want, Barnes?" You depanned, face suddenly draining of any emotion that you possessed as you moved past him, and over towards the sink, churning on the faucet water.
"To talk to you."
You immediately froze, body standing idle as your heart slammed against your rub age, before you turned your gaze back over towards him. Your very own breaths were getting caught beneath your throat. You quickly regretted the decision to look in to his eyes, as you felt your knees buckling before you. His lean body was standing there, shoulders held up high in mere confidence.
He just smiled tenderly.
Damn him.
"You don't want to keep Rose waiting, for the tour after all." You smiled back, the gesture a bit more vile than before.
Bucky's body that was once leaning against the closed refrigerator, was now practically pressed up against yours as he took a few long strides forward.
You felt his breath tingle on your lips, as he slipped off his glove from his left arm and set it on top of the counter.
He didn't have to pretended to be someone else around you. You accepted him for who he was, and he accepted you.
And you both loved each other endlessly.
"Why, does that bother you?" Bucky whispered, his words soft yet heavy as his eyes landed upon yours. "No." You quickly snapped, eyes failing as they set upon his chest, staring at his black shirt that was left slightly unbuttoned.
"Somebody jealous?" He smirked, cockiness clearly taking over as he took another step forward. He obviously still had parts of his flirtatious attitude from the 40's. You immediately scoffed, taking a step back from him as you crossed your arms firmly over your chest.
"Why the hell would I be jealous?" You seethed, fists balling up together as you clamped your mouth shut tight, cheeks growing as hot as the sun.
Bucky was struggling to keep up his facade, as your beaming eyes and puffy lips made his knees feel weak.
"Because you're in love with me."
Oh, well there goes that.
"Oh, please. That's the biggest bullshit I've ever heard." You sneered, the lies pouring from your mouth as you adverted your eyes away. You watched as Bucky's once cocky expression, faltered into a slightly angered one. His jaw clenched as he immediately wrapped his cold metal arm around you, a slight strand of his newly short hair falling down into his face.
He pulled you flush against him, lips now centimeters apart. You could barely comprehend the intensity of this moment, as your breath hitched in your throat. His vibrant blue eyes looked like shining kaleidoscopes; you could see conflict beneath them, it looked like pain, lust, yet angst. But must of all love, which you were completely blind to see.
"Then why are you jealous?" Bucky repeated. "I'm not."
"You're lying."
"No! I'm not!"
"Why are you lying to me!"
Silence.
"Because I am in love with you!" You suddenly burst, stepping back as your anger grew. "I am jealous because I love you and because I always have and I'm jealous because I wanted to be the one going on that date with you." You yelled, cheeks flushed pink as your angst subsided.
And before you could say another word, you suddenly felt a warm hand press against your cheeks, as a pair of lips smashed against yours passionately.
You felt like the world had stopped, as Bucky's lips molded perfectly into yours. You slipped your hands into his hair, as you gripped on tightly, deepening the long awaited kiss you two had been anxiously waiting for.
Bucky's arms wrapped around yours tightly, keeping you close to him as his heart bursts beneath his chest.
Due to the lack of air, you slowly let go, lips untangling from each other's as you both breathed in deeply, foreheads sat against each other's.
"Will you go out on a date with me?" Bucky suddenly whispered, barely able to speak due to the intimacy that was caught between you two. You bit the edge of your lip, smiling as your eyes fluttered close.
"A little late Barnes, but I'd like that." You replied.
"Good, because I'm in love you, and I've wanted to ask you that for a very long time." He smiled tenderly, nose nuzzling up against yours. A blush crept up against your cheeks, as you felt like all of your dreams had just come true.
"Woo!" Someone suddenly ex claimed the , making both of your heads turn towards the doorway.
"My plan worked!" Steve grinned, figure hiding behind the wall as he eavesdropped.
Bucky blushed crimson, as he chuckled. You shook your head, gazing at the doorway as Bucky pressed his nose up against your cheek as you kept your arms wrapped around his neck.
"Steve, you ass!"
"Hey, I may be 96 years old, but I'm not dumb enough to not know that my two best friends are completely in love with each other."
