Part 4
Eventually we all found our way to the assigned seats, and all I could do for a while was stare at the cards in silence. But wait; maybe this isn't a bad thing. If I survive this, I'll be set for life. And since no one even knows I'm here, I won't have to pay a cent in taxes.
For the first match, I was against a girl, one was a lot younger than most of the others here. Maybe if I'm lucky, I can psyche her out. Then she'll draw too much attention to herself and boom. Another competitor out of my way.
"Ahem." I looked up to her terrified face, looking back at me. "We need to at least start playing, even if we play as slowly as possible. If he notices us not playing, then both of us might die. I got up and slammed my metal folding chair to the floor, laughing hysterically. "You think I don't want to do this?! I'm excited!" I leaned down on the table with my elbows, putting my face as closely as I dared. "This is going to be fun!"
She screamed and got up from her own chair, having an even more raucous reaction than I had hoped for, knocking cards off their tables as she ran for the door. "Any second now..." I thought to myself. Boom. The explosion left my ears ringing, and her small and slender neck could no longer hold her head in place, and so it hit the floor with a loud thud that echoed through the room.
Turning around, I quietly picked up my folding chair and sat down, twiddling my thumbs nervously. "I'm ready for the next person."
