Chapter 21: The Funeral

Albus was nervous for his DADA class. What if the alliances of the Elder Wand had remained with Harry? Would all powers go to the Dark Lord II? He once read in an old book that once someone has the Elder Wand they are very hard to defeat. As he entered the classroom he saw even his father was nervous, which didn't help at all. When the whole class was inside his father spoke.

"So, today I will be reviewing some spells with you, and I need one of you to help me. Mr Jones." He said, and Ervin sighed, before getting up and walking to the end of the classroom. "Alright. We start with the Disarming spell." He said, and Ervin smiled evilly.

"Expelliarmus!" he yelled, and Harry's wand flew out his hand.

"Good. Now, I will try to stop you." Harry said, and Ervin nodded. Harry took his wand back in his hand.

"Expelliarmus!" he said, but Harry blocked the spell.

"Nice try, but you were already raising your wand and forming and 'ex' with your mouth so I knew what you were about to do. Do you guys see that if I know you will attack it's very easy to stop you? That's why we have non-verbal spells. What are they? Rose?"

"Non-verbal spells are spells of which you do not say the incantation out loud." she said, and Harry nodded.

"What is the advantage of them?"

"Your opponent will have no idea what spell you will use. Or, when attacking from behind, will have no idea you even attack."

"Correct. 10 Points to Gryffindor. And 10 to Slytherin for helping me, Ervin." Ervin's eyes widened. Harry never gave points to Slytherin, only on a very rare exception. "As you guys may know, I will be leaving after the next class. But not without saying a proper goodbye. So, for the next class, I will bring some snacks and we'll just have fun and talk a bit. I now want you to read the chapter on non-verbal spells." Harry said, and everyone started on their work. Albus looked at Harry, who winked at him. Albus smiled, then continued on his work.

After class the six stayed behind to talk to Harry.

"So, we did it. Rose's plan." said Scorpius. "You are the smartest person in the world, Rose."

Rose chuckled. "Thanks. So, Uncle Harry, what do we do now?"

"You wait. Until the Death Eaters try and find you. Then you tell them Ervin disarmed me before you guys, and that he was very careful as to not get defeated. And you have to keep Luke safe. Anything can happen if he gets defeated by someone." Harry said, and the six nodded.

After a long and serious talk they were allowed to leave as well, when they ran into McGonagall.

"Miss Rivers, I suppose you know already, but the funeral of your parents is tomorrow. I can bring you and the rest of your gang there." she said, and Quinn nodded.

"Thank you, Professor." she said, and they left to Charms - all protecting Luke with hands over their wands.

The next morning Quinn kept pacing through the common room. she was preparing a speech.

"They were great people, and I won't miss anyone more than them. Sorry, grandpa in heaven, love you!" she mumbled, and Albus yawned. "Oh no, is it that boring?" She asked, looking at him desperately.

"No it's just that it's 5 am and I am not awake yet really." he answered, and she sighed.

"I'm never going to come up with a good speech, and then my mean cousin Joshua will have a perfect speech. I bloody hate that guy. He's a menace, really." she said, and Albus chuckled.

"You'll be great. And if you cry in the middle, it means you really care! You know what, if you cry in the middle of your speech, I'll take over, I know your speech by heart right now." Quinn smiled, and wrapped her arms around Albus.

"You're a great friend, Al. Thanks." she said. Then, Fred came in, wearing neat black dress robes.

"Hi Quinn, how do you feel? Are you ready to go yet?" He asked, and she nodded.

Later that afternoon they were at a small church close to London, where the ceremony would be held. Quinn sat on a small chair next to the small room in which two coffins had been placed, and she was trying hard not to cry 'because her mascara would get ruined and she didn't want to use magic'. Fred stood next to her, plucking at his robes. At some point the funeral organisation person joined them.

"The guests will arrive shortly, you might want to say hello to them, Miss Rivers." she said, and Quinn nodded. She took three deep breaths and followed her out, followed by Albus and Fred, who hadn't joined the rest of the Hogwarts group so they could support Quinn in the small corridor.

They stood by the gate of the church for a long time, but luckily the sun was shining and a happy glow gleamed over the gloomy event. Loads of people showed up, and Albus noticed even Quinn didn't know them all.

When it was time to start the ceremony Quinn, Albus, Quinn's orphan cousin Joshua, Scorpius, Tyler and Luke carried the coffins in - together with some other people, as Quinn's parents both didn't have brothers or sisters to do it. After a long speech of a strange guy called Gerald, Quinn was up. She took a deep breath and walked to the pedestal.

"Dear friends, family, and acquaintances. I'm Quinn Rivers, daughter of the two people that will be buried here today. I know people always talk about how much of good people they were, even when they weren't, in case they might hear them. But in this case, it's actually true. My parents were the best people in my entire life, and they supported me, no matter what. Well, unless I got bad grades. Then they would scold me, but it was for the best. They were great people, and I won't miss anyone more than them. Sorry, grandpa in heaven, love you! I remember, when I was about five years old, this little kid down the street tormented me because I was different. My dad slapped him. And that other time, when I had fallen on my face right before the school picture? My mum fixed my face with make-up, and kept that picture in her wallet. I will miss them so much. But -" she paused, taking another deep breath. "But -" she tried again.

Albus looked at her, saw the tears in her eyes and moved to the pedestal. "But they're not really gone." he said, as Quinn sat down on the chair again, tears flowing from her eyes. "The dead never really leave. They will always remain with us. In here." he said, pointing to his heart. "So, even though we might not see them, or hear them, or ask them if they remember that time we went out for dinner, doesn't mean we should forget them. I will never forget them. They were the best parents I could wish for." said Albus, and he got a standing ovation. Tears were swelling not only in Quinn's eyes by now, but in at least 20 people's eyes.

A few speeches later they all moved outside to bury the coffins, and Fred held onto Quinn, as if she could fall down if he didn't. But that didn't matter to Albus right now. He just wanted Quinn to be 'okay' or 'fine', or close to either.

***

After the funeral everyone went to a little restaurant, and after that the whole group of Hogwarts students was returned to Hogwarts. When they arrived there Quinn went up to the girls' dormitory rather immediately, followed by a group of girls. The boys all moved up to the boys' dormitory, where Albus fell asleep after talking to Tyler and Luke about a Potions test they had the next day which no one had studied for.

***

Hey,

I know this was a really sad chapter, and I hope I kind of did the funeral okay. I described it a lot like my grandma's funeral - except for the speeches, and the one of the mother of a cousin of my dad. Also, I hope you will comment what you think and/or leave a vote.

Love,

Florence
