CHAPTER FIVE
Chloe's eyebrows rose, “Well, it's definitely not what you think!”
Dayna bounded around them, “Well, we would hope!” she sneered, “Grayson Holtz, gave you a lift to school?”
“My dad arranged it,” Chloe stuffed and headed toward the school.
Annie bustled at her side as they walked inside, “Your dad?”
“He's apparently good friends with Gray's dad?” Chloe shrugged.
“Gray?” Annie snapped.
Chloe paused and turned to her, “Hey, it's not what you think. I'm totally not into the guy. He's a...” She was going to say friend but that wasn't quite right.
Dayna smirked, shaking her head.
“You can have him, Annie.” Except Chloe knew better. His interest in Annie was nil, and that was straight from the horse’s mouth! Still, she wasn't going to take responsibility for crushing Annie's heart.
Annie and Dayna shared a look as Chloe continued down the hall, they caught up to her.
“So, what does he say when you drive with him?” Dayna questioned.
Chloe shrugged, “He doesn’t say much. He's a bit of a brick.”
Annie smiled, “I don't care. He's so hot! Do you think you could set me up with him?”
Chloe's eyes widened at the proposal, “I could see, I guess.”
“Oh my god!” Annie jumped on her arm, “That would be so amazing! I've loved Grayson since third grade!”
“You should really get out more.” Chloe commented.
Dayna laughed, “She's pathetic, I know.” Annie giggled uncontrollably as Dayna continued, “So, up for a little party on the weekend?”
Chloe smiled, it was the only thing she did know how to do well, party. She only had to figure out a way around Trooper Pryce.
“Where's it at?” Chloe asked.
“Bruce's house. His parents are in Anchorage for the week visiting family. He invited everyone.”
Chloe raised an eyebrow, “Interesting.”
One of the beefy boys from yesterday joined them, Chloe was pretty sure it was Scott because Bruce had a wider forehead.
He scooted up next to them, “So, girls, what's going on?”
Dayna jumped into conversation with him. Leaving Chloe to note the hormone fest. She hated girls that melted for boys.
“Party this weekend?” he smiled at them.
“We're going!” Dayna triumphed, “Same with Chloe.”
Chloe gave him a weak smile as they got to the door of their class.
“Cool!” Scott fist bumped her shoulder, “See you later, girls!”
“Ugh.” Chloe rolled her eyes and went about finding a place to sit.

When the bell for lunch rang, she headed out of calculus towards her locker. Which was covered in graffiti; a definite reject of the rest. She twisted the lock around and around, trying the code over and over. It refused to open and her frustration grew the longer it continued.
“Stupid thing!”
“Hey!”
She snapped around to Grayson, “You scared me.”
His brow perked, “Where are you eating lunch?” Cutting straight to the chase of why he was there.
“I don't know,” she hissed at him, “I have bigger problems right now” She tried the lock again, “this thing's a piece of crap!”
Grayson brushed her away and with a swift tug, it opened.
She stared at him, “Did you just break my lock?”
“You said it was a piece of crap.”
Snatching it from him, their palms brushed together and the touch pulsed her. She ignored it, looking over the crippled lock.
“What am I going to do now, Grayson, I can't lock it!”
He pulled his bag from his shoulder and dug around, “Here, this one's for my gym locker.”
She stared at him, “Huh?”
“Lock,” he explained with a tilt to his head, “for your locker.”
She shoved her books inside and slammed it shut. Grayson looped it through, telling her the code at the same time.
“So, I eat in the cafeteria.” He told her, “Coming?”
She shrugged, “Sure, why not?
He put his backpack over his one shoulder, “Where's your lunch?”
“I don't have one,” Figuring that was pretty obvious.
“My mom packed me three sandwiches. You can have one.”
Chloe smirked, ignoring his offer, “Oh, I'm pretty sure you need all three.”
Grayson smiled, “I'll make an exception for you.”
Unsure of what he meant, she continued to walk with him, holding back on further conversation.
Grayson's long step halted as Annie and Dayna ambushed.
“Hey, Chloe!” Annie looked to Grayson and paled, “H-hey, Grayson.”
Grayson lifted his hand in wave and waited beside Chloe, silent.
Dayna leaned into Chloe, “How'd you get Grayson out of the cafeteria, hmm?”
“What? I didn't do anything.” Chloe defended.
All the while, Annie stayed a blubbering mess, “G-Gray, are you... going to the p-party this weekend?”
Chloe couldn't how star-struck Annie was!
Grayson winced, “Let's go eat lunch, Chloe. I'm hungry.”
Not liking his tone, she caught his glowering, “Go eat lunch. No one's stopping you.”
He pouted – or at least it's what it looked like to Chloe. Pulling out his lunch, he gave her a sandwich like promised, “See you after school.” he stalked off without another word.
Dayna laughed, “Whoa, okay.”
Chloe clutched the neatly wrapped sandwich. It was ham and swiss on sour dough, her mouth watered once over Grayson Holtz and his weirdness.
She ripped it open and started eating. It was really good and settled her rumbling stomach. Misses Holtz would be someone to thank. She stopped her thoughts, never wanting to meet his family on that level - it would be awkward.
Annie sighed, “Why didn't he say anything to me?”
“He's a brick, Annie. I told you that.” Chloe took another bite, “You really shouldn't waste your time. What about Bruce?” Thinking Dayna was crushing on Scott, so why not Bruce for Annie? She continued shoving her mouth full of the sandwich only Gods ate.
Annie whined, “I don't think so.”
“No!” Dayna smirked at Chloe, “Bruce wants to ask you to Winter Fest.”
Chloe choked, stifling a laugh.
Annie stared at her, “What, Chloe?”
“That's funny,” she thought they were joking.
“No,” Dayna shook her head, “Bruce asked me this morning, if I thought you'd go with him.”
Chloe took another bite, “Interesting.”
Annie grumbled, “No one likes me.”
Chloe looked to her, wolf-boy was right. Immature, needy, even desperate could apply to Annie.
She finished the last bite of sandwich, “Come on guys, no more of this stuff about boys. Let's go do something fun,” she longed for a mall in LA.
“Fun?” Dayna droned, “Right now?”
Chloe sighed, “There must be something.”
Annie perked, “We could skip and go into town!”
Chloe smirked, “Now, you're talking!” The girls turned together to grab their jackets and purses, giggling.

BACK UP FOR SALE SHORTLY!
My manuscript Alaska over a year ago hit huge success on wattpad. I was overwhelmed by the support and eveyone's kindness. After spending 15 years writing and pouring my heart out into my characters, I had felt like I was actually reaching people through my work for the first time. Its something I had only ever dreamed of till then!
I didn't pull Alaska off wattpad to upset any readers ever, I did it because of contracts. I also hoped, people that read and appreciate my work, would help support what I spend alot of time doing. Writing. I currently write many books on wattpad for free and some, like my Heart Of Hunter series, the second book in this series Texas and coming soon Maine!
I do, from the bottom of my heart, appreciate you reading and if you decide to purchase Alaska, know how much it means to me and my family!
