Chapter 1
I wiped the blood from my cheeks, rubbing harshly to get rid of strain. If I stepped inside the house with blood on me that was not my own, they might just kill me this time.
I frowned at the scraped knee, there was nothing I could do about it, but I doubt that Madam would be fond of it. I just hoped I don't have to give up my dinner. I entered the modern one storey villa on the outskirts of Styx.
It was, for the lack of a better word, humble, but it was all that Madam had been able to afford.
All thanks to me.
I grimaced at the thought, pushing the alloy door open, the instant smell of something rotting greeted my nose and I felt at ease. I listened lightly for a movement, there was no sound in the house. A good sign, if Madam or Master were at home, I would probably get an ass-whopping I deserve.
I pushed my hair out of their braid and let them loose, making my way to the kitchen. I removed a yellowish note stuck to the table.
We went out to eat. Take the money and stay away from the fine dining restaurant at Fifth and Gold.
-Your Madam
Oh well, might as well go to a low-key bar or restaurant tonight. Cheap food and entertainment, no alcohol since I am not at legal age yet to drink it in public.
I went down to the basement, where the little of my clothes were strewn across the floor and a bed piled with messy quilts was pushed in a corner. I took a quick shower, shivering in the ice-cold water before drying myself with the only clean towel I can afford. I looked critically in the mirror as I changed into cleaner underwears, dressing in black ripped jeans and a v-neck black t-shirt, getting a black jacket over it. It had small holes in it, but almost everything I own had holes in it.
I adjusted my jacket to hide my boobs better. I piled my hair back in the braid, leaving out bangs to frame my face and get into my eyes as I already had my share of fighting today.
A second later I was standing in front of the low-key bar or restaurant called simply, Edesma.
It was quite the sight with blue-green-yellow tones all around, I smiled at the guy behind the bar, we knew each other as it was hard to spend sixteen years near a place and not know the place or people.
I don't understand why I don't have friends. I never got along with people in the area, who think either they are tough shit or too afraid of me. I just have no friends, except for him, but he doesn't count.
I got settled in one of the sofa things, that was likely meant for more people than one, but I didn't care. The waitress came and was taking my order when two grown-up men came and sat near me.
Years of instinct made my eyes unconsciously drift to them, as I have never seen them before
One of them had pale snow-white hair, almost dark cream skin and ice-blue eyes, which almost seemed to glow like a certain god. He was almost a foot and a half taller than me and I don't think short would be the word used to describe me, I was an average 5'7. He was dressed in lax clothing and was sitting with his shoulders relaxed and slumped in his seat.
The other one had brown hair, sapphire eyes and golden pale skin. He almost looked like a foreigner with that skin tone. He was also nearly as tall as his friend but seems more nervous, he was constantly crewing on his lips, sitting ramrod straight in his seat.
I heard the white-haired one said, "Thee said this place has some good fucking food for being so cheap."
The brown head rolled his eyes, "You say as if money is a problem for you."
The pale-haired one just shrugged before letting his eyes sweep the place, his eyes met mine for a second before I looked away. I pretended to drink water before letting my eyes roam to the bar where several creatures were drinking.
In here, you have to get and take the food, even if a waitress would take your order when you come in.
"Alaska Hades!"
I heard my name and stood up.
I made my way towards the counter and took my order, sniffing the delicious chicken biryani.
I made my way back to my seat only to find the two men have moved from their couch to mine. I furrowed my eyebrows feeling a spike of irritation go through me.
"Yo, forgot your table?" I said, sitting down beside the brunette. He shifted as if on guard while the glowing eyes one fixed his eyes on me.
"This was empty, so suck it up brat." He said nonchalantly.
I felt another spike of irritation going through me but smiled ironically nevertheless, "Whatever, your loss. I am not exactly a prime company."
The blue eyes glowed brighter at this, while the brown-haired offered me a quick smile. "I am Luke and my friend here is Hector."
I gave him a bitter smile, trying to keep from scowling, "I am Alaska. Sup?"
I can't believe I said 'Sup', talk about weirdness.
Hector's scowl intensified, "I can't believe you said sup." I narrowed my eyes and he smirked at me.
Luke curiously arched his eyebrows, "Uh, we are technically part of an investigation team and we are uh...investigating this case. Do you know anything strange that's happening around here?"
That didn't sound like bullshit at all. I noticed Hector giving the brunet a look that spoke volumes.
I laughed, "My parents, they run a drug ring around here, other than that? Nope, nothing strange."
The lie slipped out as effortlessly as the truth. Was it even a lie as it sounded more sarcastic than genuine?
Hector's eerie eyes seem to be fixed on my face, "Why are you telling us this? Aren't you worried that we will arrest your... parents?"
I winked at him, "I am a social fucking butterfly, sue me."
He smirked slightly, "Then answer this, what's with your eyes?"
I raised my eyebrows, "What's with my eyes? They are pretty right?"
"They glow." He said as if that explains everything.
I laughed heartily again, "So what? Yours do too. With Hades being the idol of fashion industries apparently, glowing eyes are in right now."
His eyes just glowed brighter, "But yours are natural."
I grew tense at this, how did a normal vampire figure it out?
I took a deep breath, not loosing my wide smile and let a silver of my magic slip out. Yes, he was a vampire alright, but then I paused. His friend, he was part angel, there was no mistake, there was angel blood in him.
I wonder what a vampire and an angel doing together...
I let my thoughts run rampant for a movement before collecting them again, my attention diverted when there was a crash in front of the bar. A fae was bleeding heavily from the wound on his shoulder. A few vampires present started towards him, but Hector stayed put.
I didn't waste time, I blinked in front of him before the vampires could.
A lean scruffy vampire growled, "Move away from him, girl. Otherwise, I might take two sluts home today."
I grinned at him, "Think you can handle me, sucker?"
He lunged at me and I easily dodged him, twirling around. These baffoons were no match for me, they are just idiots looking for an easy win. I balled my fist and hit them square in his face, there was an angry shout and some of the vampires muttered, "Oh shit, its Kristoff!" and the rest scattered.
I helped up the fae, sending a bit of magic to heal him. He trembled a little, "Thank you."
I just shrugged and went back to my chicken biryani. Hector and Luke shifted uncomfortably.
"What you wanted to play hero or what?" Hector asked. His scowl seems permanent on his face.
"I needed entertainment around this place dude," I said through a mouthful of biryani.
Luke grimaced, "Does that happen here often? Where are the authorities?"
I picked a chicken bone and bit into it, chewing thoughtfully I answered honestly, "Yes it happens often because it is not the wealthiest part of the city. The authorities? The motto of Docks is followed around here, I am sure you know what it is."
The slight frowns on their faces told me that much. I stood up, "Well, I have had my meal and my entertainment. So you know, see you around. Or if you are smart, not see you around."
Hector got up as well, "Wait, who are your parents? You know, for... investigation."He threw a glare at Luke
A shadow passed over my face, the echo of a slap and sound of hum that sounds too close yet too far came into my mind. I smiled bitterly, who knows?
Maybe they are worthless pieces of garbage waiting at my house, or maybe they are too good for me to touch and don't know I exist.
I vanished without a trace.
