Chapter Three

Alanna always had the hardest time waking up in the morning. Not only was it hard leaving her warm sheets but she also knew it was just going to be another messed up day at school dealing with twerps for teenagers and teachers who didn't care. After giving herself a pep talk about trying to be nicer she finally got out of bed and made it up or she'd get it from her mother about being untidy. She went on her knees to say her daily prayers at the foot of her bed asking God to give her the courage she needed to face another day at school. When she was done with her prayers she got up and opened her wardrobe to get her uniform.

Her room was simple consisting of a huge four by six bed that she loved with navy sheets and a camouflage duvet with two matching pillows. She had a wardrobe built into the wall and two bedside tables and a chair. One table had all her books and study material while the other had her laptop and a few essentials she needed. There was also a shoe rack by the door where she kept her shoes. She loved her shoes alright and had a very expensive collection of sneakers.

Alanna stripped off her nightdress and walked outside her room into the bathroom she shared with her sister to take a much needed shower. Her sister didn't live there most of the time because she was away at university and only came home during the holidays. They talked all the time but she still missed her. They were sisters as well as best friends being as they were both indoor cats and rarely had time to go outside to make other friends. Alanna had always been okay with their arrangement but ever since Elizabeth, her sister went away to school it was just not the same anymore. She found herself lonelier than ever.

Her parents were always at work so she was left home alone most of the time and lately their not so large house was becoming bigger and bigger. Maybe she should start making friends. But that included actually talking to other people and she wasn't very good at that. Anyway it was just a few more months and she would join college and make new friends there. Her sister always spoke of how people were different at the university and she hoped they really were. She didn't need any more negative people in her life. She already had enough of those to last her a few lifetimes.

Getting out of the bathroom after a proper shower and brushing her teeth Alanna walked back to her bedroom to get dressed. She made sure to dry off well before applying lotion on her body and putting on her underwear. She then put on her uniform which was thankfully slacks today and a pair of ankle socks. Alanna had slimmed her school slacks to hug her figure better. She had a nice lower body so she made sure to accentuate that. She then picked out a pair of FILA sneakers that were white, black and brown to complete her whole look. The school didn't really pay attention to what shoes they wore so she took advantage of that and wore whatever she liked in that department.

Standing in front of the mirror she gave herself a once over to make sure she was properly dressed. She had trimmed her hair and used blowout to make it curly. She had also shaved the sides to resemble a fade. Alanna was a hundred percent tomboy and she liked her style, it was unique and she loved it. Sure she had a feminine body but she didn't care about that. She had size thirty eight boobs which were quite large, a bit of a tummy that she actually liked and a huge ass and matching hips to match. She took after her mother who who was short and petite but she got her height from her dad who was very tall.

She used some gel to style her hair and finding herself presentable grabbed her backpack and walked to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.

Her house was a beautiful bungalow that her parents had saved up for a really long time to build it. It had three bedrooms, Alanna's, Elizabeth's and the master bedroom which belonged to her parents. Then there was the living room which was quite huge, the kitchen which was her favorite part of the house, the dining room that they rarely used unless they had company or whenever her mom insisted and a small storage room. The house had two bathrooms complete with a shower, toilet and a sink. One was in the master bedroom and the other one was shared by the two sisters.

Alanna's parents were still asleep so she decided to make breakfast for all of them and her lunch before she left for school. It was five thirty in the morning and she had to be at school by six thirty so she had an hour to prepare everything. Getting out everything she needed she set upon that task.

Her parents usually got up around seven to be at work by eight and were always home by nine in the evening to have supper together before they called it a day. Now you see why Alanna was always alone, she only got to see her parents during supper time for at least thirty minutes. They were by no means bad parents because whenever she needed them they were always there for her but she had no desire to hang out with her mom or dad no matter how 'cool' they were. Even if she always isolated herself Alanna had to admit she needed company once in a while.

Just then her phone pinged from her backpack. She turned off the cooker already done with cooking before checking who was texting her this early in the morning. She shouldn't have been surprised that it was Ryan. They had exchanged numbers yesterday after class. She already regretted that decision because he kept sending her memes and funny videos. They were actually funny but she wouldn't admit that to him. She was yet to reply a single message of his but he didn't seem to give up.

Dingus 🤡 : Good morning munchkin.

She ignored that text and put her phone back in her backpack. She put her parents breakfast aside before having hers which included coffee, fried eggs and a few maandazis. She wasn't allowed to have coffee but what her parents didn't know wouldn't hurt them. She then packed her lunch which was spaghetti and meatballs. She wasn't feeling like doing a lot of cooking that morning so that would have to do. She also made sure to pack some maandazis to snack on. She made sure to put everything she needed in her backpack, shrugged on her hoodie with the school logo and was good to go. She opted for the hoodie instead of the blazer or sweater. Strapping on her backpack she grabbed her skateboard and set off for school.

Luckily for Alanna it was a three minute walk on uneven ground before she was at the tarmac and could use her skateboard till she arrived at school. When she was younger she had always wanted to own a skateboard and she had finally saved up enough to buy one last year. It had taken a while but she had finally mastered it. She also owned a pair of skateshoes which were a gift from her sister for Christmas. Those had been harder to learn but she finally did. She used them on occasion because the board was her favorite.

The school was ten minutes away from her home on foot so she got there on time using her board. It didn't save much time but she enjoyed using it. She got to school on time and headed directly to her class. It was Friday so they had preps until seven thirty before they had an assembly for thirty minutes and classes began at eight.

She put her board at the back of the class before sitting on her desk and settling in. She took out her books and began finishing up the assignment she hadn't been able to complete last night. Two minutes in, someone settled themselves next to her. She didn't have to look to know who it was.

"Why have you been ignoring my texts?" He asked sounding a little pissed off.

"Because we're not allowed phones in school." Alanna replied trying to solve a math equation that she couldn't even comprehend.

"I've been texting you since last night." He answered as if it was the most obvious thing.

She didn't answer him but concentrated on her books. Alanna really wished she could understand these things they were taught at school without having to struggle so hard. It would definitely make her life easier.

"You're doing it wrong." Ryan whispered leaning in close.

Alanna leaned back and used the blunt tip of her pencil to push his face away from her. He really needed to learn the whole personal space thing.

"Maybe you can help." Alanna said pushing her open notebook closer to him.

"Sure it's what I'm here for." He said with an excited smile on his lips.

This boy could go from zero to a hundred real fast and it scared Alanna sometimes. Was he bipolar or something?

"Good morning by the way." He greeted her after a few seconds of silence as he tried to decipher the maze of an equation she had pushed towards him.

Alanna was tempted not to reply but she had promised herself to try and make this work so she had to make the efforts. Baby steps.

"Morning." She replied quietly and she thought Ryan hadn't heard her but when the tip of the pencil he was using snapped and he turned quickly to face her, she knew he had.

"You just replied to my greeting. Either that or there was something in my breakfast that's causing me to hallucinate." He exclaimed excitedly.

Alanna started to freak out inside. He was making a very big deal out of a small thing. It was just a simple greeting for crying out loud. What if she hugged him? He looked like he would pass out.

"Don't make a mountain out of an anthill. Play it cool and help me with my math problem."She replied quickly diffusing the situation.

"Oh yeah right." Ryan replied blushing profusely and turning away.

Alanna didn't want to make the situation any more embarrassing for either of them so she sat patiently and waited for him to calm down and explain the math problem to her.

"Okay this is how you do it..." Ryan said leaning in a little closer but far enough to respect her space.

She liked that he was learning. Surprisingly enough with Ryan's extreme patience and Alanna's willingness to learn they managed to tackle her assignments quickly and efficiently. Maybe this was actually going to work out, Alanna thought to herself. She just had to learn to put up with the goofy side of Ryan. When it came to books he was one hundred percent very serious but every other time he was always joking around. It was actually hard to believe that he was an A student. To actually gain from him she had to put up with all of him and she would definitely try her best. It's not like she had many options to work with.

Lunch time rolled around pretty fast and Alanna grabbed her food and went outside to enjoy her lunch. There were tables inside and outside the cafeteria but she preferred eating alone so she chose the furthest table away from everyone else where she always sat. She had no more maandazis left. Actually come to think of it she'd barely had more than three and she'd packed at least ten. Where had the rest disappeared to? One name came to mind. Ryan. Definitely that food stealing boy.

Speak of the devil and the devil appears. He wasn't the only one though. He'd brought his whole posse with him. Alanna knew everyone here because they were all seniors just in different classes. They were five in total including Ryan. They all looked unsure but they still sat down anyway.

There was Samuel who was Ryan's best friend. They were on the football (soccer) team together. Sam was tall, a little shorter than Ryan but still tall with an athletic build. He was very popular at school because of his jokes. He was a comedian of sorts and besides who didn't love a good belly laugh once in a while. He was handsome too with a cute baby face that's the girls seemed to go gaga for.

Then there were the twins, Sophia and Liam who looked nothing alike being as they were fraternal twins . Sophia was short, with a dark skin tone, witty and didn't take shit from anybody. Liam was tall with a light skin tone and loved goofing around much like everyone else around here. He was on the team too as the goalkeeper.

Tony was the least unruly of the group. He was quiet and always seemed to think carefully about his words before he spoke. He was also the shortest of the guys and Sophia's boyfriend. They had been dating since the beginning of high school and were the cutest couple ever. They complimented each other which was awesome. Tony was actually Samuel's cousin that's why they hang out together a lot.

"There's my little ball of sugar. I've been looking everywhere for you." Ryan announced propping himself next to her.

"Avoiding you but that's out the window now isn't it." She replied sarcastically.

"I'll assume that."He said looking at her pointedly. "Am sure you all know each other so no need for introductions." He commented cutting through the awkward silence that had befallen the table.

"Hey Alanna want to hear a joke?" Samuel asked seeming very excited about what he was going to say. He was practically bouncing on his seat.

"Yeah sure." She replied not wanting to be rude.

"Please say no." Sophia begged.

"Yeah we hear enough of his jokes already." Liam added and Alanna shrugged not wanting to take sides.

"She's too nice to say anything. Samuel no more jokes." Toby reprimanded.

"First of all don't call me Samuel, my name is Sam and second Alanna said she wanted to hear my joke. The rest of you can suck it." He replied sticking out his tongue at them.

"Very mature Sam." Ryan said sarcastically. "Now put your tongue back in your mouth."

Sam put his tongue back immediately and leaned back in his seat looking like a scolded child. Alanna felt sorry for him.

"I still want to hear it." Alanna said and everyone else groaned while Sam beamed.

"Okay what did the waves say to the beach?" He asked excitedly.

"Uumh... sea you later." She replied remembering that joke from one of the movies she'd watched.

Snickers were head around the table while Samuel looked downcast. Hadn't she gotten it right? Wasn't she supposed to answer ?

"Don't beat yourself up sweetheart. This man child over hear just hates it when people actually figure out his jokes no matter how obvious they are." Ryan explained.

"Oh. I'm sorry Sam, how about another one." Alanna suggested trying to save face.

"It's okay the moments gone." Sam replied sadly and turned to his food.

There was some awkward tension after that and Alanna had no idea how to get out of it. She hadn't invited these guys here so she was by no way obligated to start conversation with any of them. She had said she should try to put herself out there more and Ryan's friends looked nice enough but she could never be too sure. Well this lunch would determine everything.

"You guys have to try these maandazis made by my girl over here." Ryan announced pulling the ziplock bag she had placed the maandazi's out of thin air.

She looked at him with an angry expression on her face wondering when he had snatched all her snacks. He ignored her dirty looks and held out her snacks for everyone to take one.

"I've heard about these. Let me try." Liam said reaching for one and everyone else did.

There goes her snacks. Alanna should really talk to Ryan about stealing her food. It was very uncool of him. If he wanted food all he had to do was ask not take. She would definitely share if she had enough for both of them.

"Oh My God! These are amazing." Sophia exclaimed as she enjoyed hers.

"You're reputation doesn't do you justice." Liam commented.

Everyone else was busy enjoying theirs so it was just a series of moans and grunts of appreciation.

It was no secret about her cooking skills. It was the one thing nobody could beat her in no matter how hard they tried.

"Thank you. I'm glad you guys are enjoying them seeing as I made them for everyone." She replied directing that last part to Ryan who just smiled cheekily at her.

He was going to be the end of her with all his food stealing and sweet names that didn't seem to have an end.

Ice broken, the rest of lunch went on with all of them bonding and getting to know Alanna better and she knowing them. She caught Ryan looking at her with a proud smile once in a while but he always looked away when she held his gaze. Whatever his problem was she wasn't going to pry. It was none of her business and she was too lazy to care what was going on in that crazy head of his. For once she was actually making friends and she liked that.

Anyway stay safe and healthy. Be blessed.
