Chapter Eighteen

It had been more than a week since their first date and the buzz about them being on live TV had died down. Life hadn't changed much for Alanna but it definitely had for Ryan. He kept getting approached by people wanting to talk to him and people expected Alanna to be jealous since Ryan was getting all the attention yet she was the one who had mainly been on the show but she was just glad the attention was off her. He didn't allow all the attention he got to affect their relationship though and they had just been getting closer and closer as the days went by.

"If it isn't our celebrity couple." Sophia teased when they sat down to have lunch on a Thursday afternoon.

Alanna rolled her eyes and Ryan just brushed her off. They had been used to that treatment and they didn't let it faze them.

"Leave them alone babe." Tony scolded.

"Okay fine but just because I'm hungry and its rude to eat with your mouth full." She replied before taking a mouthful of her food.

For lunch that day Alanna had made samosas, sausages and kachumbari. She opened the food flask and they dug in.

"So what are you guys doing this weekend? Another secret date?" Sam teased and Alanna groaned wondering when it was all going to be over.

One date and everyone suddenly couldn't stop talking about it.

"Actually yes. Alanna and I are going to a wedding and having a blast." Ryan replied.

"What wedding?" Alanna asked looking at him puzzled.

He hadn't mentioned any wedding to her.

"My mom got invited to a wedding by one of our many inlaws and asked if I wanted to go and I said yes as long as I got to take you. She told me your parents had been invited too." Ryan explained.

"But I'm not a fan of social gatherings." Alanna replied.

"Come on please babe. I've always wanted to go one of those fancy weddings and it'll not be fun without you." Ryan pleaded.

"I'll go with you baby." Liam replied jokingly and Ryan tossed a piece of tomato at him.

"Shut up idiot. So what do you say babe? I promise it will be fun." He enticed her.

"Okay fine we'll go but if I get bored I'm leaving you there." Alanna replied and Ryan kissed her cheek in glee making her smile.

"Since these two are getting hitched this weekend what are the rest of you up to?" Sam asked and it was Alanna's turn to toss a tomato at him. He caught it and put it in his mouth.

Alanna chuckled at his childishness as she listened to everyone talk about their weekend plans. She'd vaguely remembered her mom talking to her dad about a wedding but she didn't know she was going to be talked into attending it. The reason her mom hadn't asked her was because she knew she was going to say no.

She was going to go though, for Ryan because she knew he could make any situation fun for her and she needed a little more of that in her life. She also needed to relax because they were about to have their end of term exams in two weeks. After that they would have a two week break before they came back to school, studied for two months before they did their final examinations which would determine whether they went to college and university or not. Just thinking about it all at once made Alanna very nervous that's why the more she thought about the wedding thing the more appealing it seemed. Anything to get her out of her head for a while would definitely be great.

Alanna stood in front of the mirror looking at the dress her mom had bought for her yesterday to wear to the wedding. When she'd told her mom yesterday morning that she was going to the wedding she had been very happy. She had picked her up after school and they had gone shopping. It had taken almost an hour to find a dress that Alanna liked. She wanted to wear sneakers with the dress but her mother refused and bought her a pair of heels. They were comfortable enough as long as Alanna had support when she walked. Ryan was in for a lot of work but he deserved it since the whole wedding thing was his idea.

The dress was a spaghetti strap design with a floral upper bodice, the lower part was black and flared out reaching upto her knees. The back was longer than the front but it wasn't that long. Alanna curled her hair and applied gel leaving it to naturally dry. She put on some simple make up just because she was going to a wedding and wanted to look nice. For accessories she wore loop earrings and two studs in the extra ear piercings. To complete the look she grabbed the small black clutch her mom had bought her and put anything that would fit in it and that she would need.

"Alanna we're running late hurry up." Her mom yelled at her from the living room.

"Coming mom." She replied and headed out of her room and into the living room.

"You look beautiful sweetheart." Her mom complimented.

"You really do munchkin." Her dad added.

"Thank you and you guys look good too." Alanna replied and she was right.

Her parents actually did look good in matching ankara outfits. Her mom liked the whole African print look and her dad liked pleasing her mom thus wearing whatever mom had made for them.

"Okay family time to go we are already late." Alanna's mom said ushering them out of the house.

They locked the door before they all pilled into the car with Alanna in the backseat. The drive wasn't long because the cathedral that the wedding was taking place was close by. After a ten minute drive filled with chatter and lots of teasing they finally pulled up to the church and found a parking space amidst the very many cars. There were very many people there all dressed impeccably with smiles on their faces. Weddings were very joyous occasions.

They got out of the car and Alanna followed her parents towards the entrance of the church. They were stopped a few times by other families to say hello and catch up. Alanna didn't even notice when Ryan and his family approached but she definitely took notice of how Ryan looked dashing in formal wear. He was wearing a black shirt with his sleeves rolled up and a few buttons undone tucked into black slacks with a black belt and a black watch. The black loafers he was wearing completed the whole look. He gave her a wink and she blushed all the way to her toes, only her skin tone didn't let you notice.

Alanna said hello to his parents before the four adults dragged each other into conversation leaving the two teens just gawking at each other.

"You look handsome." Alanna complimented deciding to talk first.

"Thank you love. You look stunning yourself. You should definitely wear dresses more often and those heels damn." He said licking his lips making her hit him with her clutch out of embarrassment.

"Don't say things like that and the dress is a one time thing so enjoy it while you can." Alanna replied.

"I plan on it." He replied.

"We should go in before the bride arrives." Alanna suggested and Ryan nodded holding out his elbow for her.

She was grateful for the support because she didn't want to embarrass herself by falling in front of all those people.

They got into the church and because the bride was Ryans family they had to walk all the way to the front. Weirdly enough nobody else was walking down the aisle at the moment which made the situation very awkward and intimate.

"Are you thinking what am thinking?" Ryan asked as they continued walking.

"Yeah if what you're thinking is how awkward this is and why that photographer is taking pictures of us." Alanna questioned noticing the guy who was taking pictures of them.

"I'm thinking that one day this will be you and your dad as I wait on the other end and one day I'll be walking out daughter down the aisle." Ryan replied and if it wasn't for the fact that he was holding back up Alanna would have tripped over her legs and fell.

"Stop thinking that you stupid boy and find us a seat already. People are starting to stare." Alanna reprimanded.

Ryan chuckled before he found and empty spot for them. He led her to it and allowed her to sit first before he himself sat down.

Alanna was grateful for the chance to sit and take a breath. What was Ryan thinking having ideas like those? Get married have kids. They were eighteen for crying out loud, they weren't even an official couple yet and he was already talking about marriage.

"I'm sorry about my comment. Let's just enjoy the wedding and forget I said anything." Ryan suggested.

Alanna nodded relieved at his apology "Okay as long as you don't talk about that stuff again."

"I promise." He said giving his word.

Her heart wasn't exactly at ease because she knew he was still thinking it but as long as he kept his thoughts to himself they would be okay.

Soon enough everyone had settled into the church and the wedding began. It was a beautiful ceremony and the bride looked like she had just walked out of a fairy tale wedding and the groom looked very handsome in his grey tux. It was the first time Alanna had seen a Kenyan couple say their own vows, they still did the traditional vows but theirs were so moving and beautiful. Alanna wished the new couple eternal happiness, love and Gods blessings as they started this new journey together.

After the church session they headed to the photo session in a very romantic garden that was rented out for such occasions. Alanna was very reluctant but Ryan dragged her to take very many photos with him. Eventually Alanna found herself enjoying taking all those goofy pictures with Ryan. He had promised her that she wouldn't be bored and so far he was keeping his words.

After that they went to the reception where there was a lot of dancing and gift giving. Alanna didn't dance because she was afraid of falling due to the shoes but she was more than happy to sit down and watch Ryan make a fool out of himself on the dance floor. She was laughing so hard she actually found herself shedding tears at his antics.

"Having fun yet?" Ryan asked breathing heavy when he sat back down after spending the last thirty minutes trying to do a moon walk and failing terribly.

"Yeah thank you for insisting I come." Alanna replied with a smile.

"That's good now would you care to join me on the dance floor for one song." Ryan invited.

"No thank you. I don't want to break my legs and I don't think I can match your enthusiasm." Alanna replied.

"Just one song, I promise you you won't fall because I won't let you go. And its a slow dance." Ryan invited and as if on cue the lights dimmed and Photograph by Ed Sheeran started playing.

"Okay but just this one song." Alanna replied. Even if she was a little scared she actually wanted to dance with Ryan.

He grinned happily at her before taking her hand and pulling her into the dance floor. Her heels made her taller so they were almost at eye level but he was still taller than her. She wrapped her hands around his neck and he held onto her waist. They began to sway in sync to the music and were soon lost in their own bubble.

"There's something I've been meaning to ask you." Ryan began and he had the same nervous look he had before he asked her on a date.

"Ask away." Alanna replied with an encouraging smile hoping to make him feel better about whatever he was about to ask.

"Today has been amazing with you and its got me thinking. Ever since we were kids I've ever only had eyes for you and now that I actually get to court you I don't think I'll ever let you go. You make me happy, you make me dream bigger and aspire to be better, you inspire me to follow my dreams and you're a very good cook who always makes me what I desire."They both chuckled softly at that statement but Alanna didn't say anything and allowed Ryan to continue

"You are the most amazing person I've ever met and I want to continue what we've started and see what the future holds for us together. So Alanna my darling will you do me the honor of being mine. Will you be my girlfriend?" He proposed and Alanna didn't have a doubt in her heart about her answer.

She knew that she liked Ryan and that he genuinely liked her back. She definitely wanted to be his girlfriend and explore being in a relationship with him.

"Yes I'll be yours." She replied with a warm smile.

Ryan grinned victoriously before he leaned in and Alanna met him halfway and their lips met in a warm soft amazing kiss that only lasted a few seconds but what the best first kiss Alanna could have ever imagined to have. It was actually better that way because the lights turned back on and Alanna didn't think it would have been appropriate for them to be kissing like that in view of everyone.

Later on Ryan had snagged huge pieces of cake for the both of them and they enjoyed them together as they talked the evening away.

Officially a couple. Yeeeeeeeessss!!!!! Okay so I've been struggling with how this story progresses from here onward and I figured out a solution. I don't want to bore you guys with a lot of filler chapters so from here onwards there will be a few time skips until the end of the story. I don't know how long the story will be but it'll definitely not be past thirty chapters because I'm not a fan of long stories myself.

The next chapter will be up soon.

As always, I love you 3000.
