Chapter Twenty Two – Who You Are.
Alec let out a small giggle as he sat down on the bed, Magnus's arms instantly wrapping around his waist. "What's so funny?" Magnus asked, pulling Alec closer into his chest with a content smile. "Bees." Alec giggled again, playing with Magnus's splayed fingers that were resting against his bare stomach. Magnus chuckled quietly to himself, the sound reverberating against Alec's back making the young Shadowhunter squirm in place. "Quit wiggling Alexander, I swear it's like lying next to a Raum demon." Magnus mumbled, drowsiness evident in his tone despite the laugh. "Ew." Alec complained, pulling Magnus's arms from around his waist as he shifted to face the warlock, "Even I find that image disturbing Magnus." Magnus laughed, nodding in agreement as he stared down at the young Shadowhunter in his arms before briefly pressing his lips against Alec's forehead before closing his eyes in an attempt to sleep.
Alec sighed, turning his head slightly to look at the ceiling, his hand finding one of Magnus's own and holding it towards his chest before letting go and poking Magnus in the side. Magnus ignored him and Alec sighed once more poking Magnus again. "Can't sleep." Alec whispered, continuously poking Magnus until the Warlock sighed and gave up feigning sleep. "Well maybe if you stopped attempting to you use me as your own personal pin cushion you might be able to sleep." Magnus said, kissing Alec on the forehead again.
"It's not my fault you're squishy." Alec retorted, poking Magnus in the side again with a grin as Magnus rolled his eyes at him. Alec chuckled to himself as a thought randomly popped into his head. "I shall call him Squishy and he shall be mine. He will be my squishy."
Magnus shook his head exasperatedly, poking Alec in the side in return. "Bad Squishy." Alec laughed, slapping away Magnus's hand causing him to pout. "Then don't quote Finding Nemo when I'm trying to sleep." Alec shrugged at Magnus, curling up tightly against the Warlock's chest and entwining their feet as he let his eyes finally drift shut before he quickly fell into a deep sleep.
~ Que Dream ~
Alec walked into the Institute his hair damp with the pounding rain outside that was still audible even through the noise that he could hear coming from upstairs somewhere. Hanging his dripping coat up on a nearby hook began to take the stairs in front of him two at a time determined to reach his room and have a quick shower and change into some warmer and much drier clothes before going to investigate the noise that he could only assume was Jace and Isabelle. He headed along an upstairs corridor on the third floor before finally reaching the door to his bedroom, relaxing he began to remove the small number of knives from his jeans pocket and belt loops before heading quickly over to the windowsill so that he could remove his boots rather than sit on his bed.
Leaning against the cold stone Alec listened as the rain pounded against the glass windows, rain water occasionally dripping down his fringe and into his eyes forcing him to blink hurriedly to clear his vision as he untied his boots, leaving them in the corner to dry off. Glancing once around his slightly messy bedroom - he really needed, and intended, to tidy up a bit - books were scattered all over the floor which he had yet to place back on the shelves in the library and a few piles of clothes sat dejectedly on the floor that he had also intended to stick in the wash. Sighing Alec shoved himself away from the wall hurriedly flicking through what little clothes were left in his wardrobe before laying them out on top of his bed and heading into the bathroom for a quick warm shower.

Hands inside his pockets of his black hoodie Alec padded through the Institute only stopping a few times to check various rooms along the way for signs of Jace and Isabelle. Sitting down a banister of a staircase on the far West side of the Institute Alec let himself slide down only jumping off when he reached the bottom, muttering a curse under his breath when his foot caught behind him and almost sent him tumbling down the rest of the stone steps. Steadying himself briefly he made his way over to the nearest door, shoving it open before heading down the corridor in the direction of the library. 'If they're not in here then I'm just going to assume that they are out and the noise I heard was just some music or a TV left on somewhere.' Alec thought to himself as he paused outside the library, listening momentarily. There was definitely voices coming from inside the room. Hesitantly Alec nudged the door open a crack, not wanting to fully step inside and announce his presence just in case his parents had decided to come back from Idris and were having a meeting that they would rather not have him listening in on, despite being of age. "I just don't know what we're supposed to do Izzy." Jace's familiar voice rang through the silence causing Alec to let out a quiet sigh of relief, not even realising he had been holding his breath. "Alec's always been so stubborn. I just can't believe he would have done this."
"We're going to have to get Magnus to come down here, you know that right? It's his right to know as Alec's husband now." Isabelle said, her back facing the door and her head turning slightly as Jace continued to pace up and down the room. "I know." Jace replied pausing in front of the door, Alec drew back slightly just in cause Jace happened to turn around and see him, "But why throw out the meds? He knows how important they are... how important he is to us!"
"I know. Shall we call Magnus down now? As much as I hate to have to tell him this." Isabelle asked. Alec bit his lip numerous thoughts swirling in his head about how Isabelle and Jace had found out, 'Please say no. C'mon Jace please... just say no...' Alec shut his eyes as Jace nodded, the image burning itself permanently into his mind tearing him apart from the inside. "Call him."
It wasn't long before Magnus appeared in the library, lounging on one of the sofas as soon as the Portal he had opened had shut. "Why is it when something happens it's always you three?" He said almost in a bored tone as he continued to paint his nails an electric shade of purple forcing Alec to bit his lip to keep from laughing as he recognised the book reference immediately. When he received no reply Magnus looked up, surprise briefly crossing his face when he realised that only Jace and Isabelle were sat - or in Jace's case, stood - in front of him both of them wearing apprehensive expressions on their faces. Magnus frowned, "What is it? Where's Alexander?" Jace sighed, perching himself on top of the arm of the chair Isabelle was sat in as he brushed his hair back from his eyes impatiently, worrying his bottom lip between his teeth. "That's what we need to talk to you about Magnus."
*****
"You have to be mistaken," Magnus said the disbelief clearly shown with his tone of voice making Alec who was still hidden in the shadows outside the library to duck his head, cheeks burning with embarrassment. "Alec wouldn't do that," Magnus continued shaking his head, "he wouldn't. He promised he'd take them as when he needed them."
"Then you clearly haven't been keeping a close enough eye on him!" Jace yelled, his clenched fist digging into his jeans causing his nails to scratch at the skin beneath. "Jace. You know it's not Magnus's fault." Isabelle said sending an apologetic look at Magnus who waved it off. "We just have to wait for Alec to get back and he can explain it to us himself."
"I have a feeling we won't have to wait long for that." Magnus muttered before turning his head to stare directly at the door, the pain of Alec's betrayal clear with his ready eyes. "You can come out now Alexander." Alec drew back further into the shadows he couldn't go in there. He couldn't! Peering through the gap in the door he saw Jace stand back up to pull open the door.
Before Alec had a chance to react Jace already had hold of a fistful of his sweater and had dragged him into the room, golden eyes that had always been so kind and gentle towards him now flashing dangerously with barely concealed anger and hurt. "You stupid, stupid son of a..." Jace began before he was cut off by Isabelle. "Jace, I know you're his Parabatai. But as his husband it should be Magnus's place to speak to him first."
"I don't want to." Magnus muttered quietly, barely audible but Alec heard him. He staggered backwards away from Jace, his heart lurching painfully within his chest and his eyes wide as he stared at Magnus. "W-What?" He stuttered trying to convince himself that he'd just heard Magnus wrong. "I don't want to speak to you at the moment Alexander." Magnus said, standing up and turning his back to the young Shadowhunter, making his way over to sit on the windowsill watching the rain trickle down the glass. Magnus's back to him hurt more than Alec could believe, his eyes darting behind Jace and Isabelle helplessly but neither of them would look back at him. "Magnus I... I'm sorry." Alec said, desperation filling his voice. They wouldn't end over this would they? He didn't think he could take it if they split up again. "Uh-huh." Magnus replied still keeping his back to Alec. "I mean it! It was stupid... I was stupid! I'll go get some more from Catarina tomorrow. I promise. Magnus... Magnus please..." Alec yelled, tears rolling freely down his checks as he marched forward reaching for Magnus's arm only to have the Warlock pull away from him. "I'm sorry!"
Magnus looked at him, making the tears on his cheeks visible to Alec, "So am I."
~ End Of Dream. ~
Alec woke with a jolt. His breath shuddering in his chest as he wrapped his arms around himself trying to keep himself grounded, to keep from breaking down. "Alec?" Magnus muttered groggily, fingers trailing briefly down Alec's back making the young Shadowhunter shudder as he tried to hold back a son. "Alec, what is it?" Magnus repeated, pushing himself up into a half-sitting position. Alec shook his head not trusting himself to speak as Magnus rested his chin on Alec's shoulder. "You can tell me."
Again Alec shook his head, "It's fine Magnus." He said after a while, clearing his throat as he hoped Magnus was still too drowsy from being woken from his sleep so suddenly to notice the cracking of his voice. "Just a bad dream." Magnus sighed, wrapping his arms around Alec's waist in order to pull him down into a laying position with Alec resting against the Warlock's chest. "It's okay," Magnus muttered, pressing his lips against Alec's forehead, "it's okay. I'm here. I love you. I love you for who you are. I love you."
'You wouldn't if you knew...' Alec thought to himself listening as Magnus's breathing began to slow again as the Warlock began drifting back to sleep. "I love you too." The sound of Magnus's light snores followed soon after however Alec lay awake feeling cold and hollow despite the warmth of his husband's arms wrapped securely around his waist.
