{Hak x reader} Last Minute Details
"You'll have to do."
Hak has no memory of how he ended up in such a terrible predicament.
It first started off as a online date that Jea-ha and Kija fixed up for him. Just meet some stranger and see if they could hit it off. Tinder helped, and the both of them immediately clicked "yes" when seeing your pictures and bio.
Hak didn't want to go.
Kija and Jea-ha made it a prank, but Hak knew inside that it would be rude to stand them up. He doesn't want to be that person, y'know?
So he stood there, waiting by a statue and watching the time go by. You weren't a second late, mad dashing up to the ravenette. Now what surprised him was when you quickly yanked on his arm and said, "You'll have to do."
Now Hak is running after you, trying to keep up with your surprisingly quick strides. You lead him to a high school with blaring lights and balloons. A banner is taped across the entrance, welcoming back student from 10 years ago.
Hak pales.
'No way...' He thinks. 'I'm their show off date?'
Okay, so this 'first date' is turning out to be the worst thing ever. Who knew the first date would be a high school reunion?
You smile, greeting old friends. Hak stoically stands by your side the whole time, not showing any signs of discomfort. He isn't in the happiest mood either.
"This is my significant other." You introduce, gesturing to Hak. He shakes hands throughout the whole night.
Things were going well for you. People would be completely shocked by the sight of an incredibly handsome man. Of course, you're cackling internally. Their reactions are priceless.
It isn't until later, when you and Hak are sitting alone at a table, do you both start talking. It's awkward at first, you having to apologize thoroughly for the weird first date. Hak brushes it off, choosing to be polite at first.
"I've gotta ask." He says, sipping a glass of wine. You raise a brow, taking a quick taste as well. You hum in response. "Why exactly did you need me as a first date?"
You take a giant gulp, sighing right after. "I wasn't exactly "popular" in high school." You quote while rolling your eyes. "I really just wanted to... Shove it in their faces, y'know? Just show them that I'm doing better than them."
"But you're not." Hak points out. You choke on your wine, glaring at Hak. He merely shrugs and you sigh in defeat as a response. The wine in your glass sloshes as you swirl it around, staring at it idly.
"Yeah... I guess you're right..." You then smile, "Good thing you don't have to see my sorry ass after this."
Hak looks at you curiously. He doesn't like the fact that you're openly admitting the fact that you're both a failure and ready to never see him again. It's not right. Isn't it usually like, "Sorry this was a bad first date but I'll call you." And then they never see each other again?
Here you are, ready to throw him away.
He doesn't like it at all.
"I dunno," Hak starts, "I mean we can always have a date do-over..?"
You choke on your third glass of wine. Hak quickly hands you a few napkins, muttering curses under his breath as you clean yourself up.
"I'm sorry, what?" You nearly shout incredulously. Hak raises a glass in toast. "To a better future?"
"I hardly know you. And this "date" sucks."
"I know."
You look at Hak, then your glass of wine, and then at the sea of past assholes that used to torment you throughout high school.
Maybe you're ready for a new future that doesn't completely shout, "Forever Alone"?
You raise your glass, clinking it with Hak's.
"To a better future, I guess."
