Chapter 5: Quirk Reveal
The next day the press had died down just enough to give me some confidence. I think I'll use the front door.
I walked out, in another all black outfit, but my long, white hair flowing down freely. I watched the reporters scramble.
Huh, I caught them off guard for once. Chuckling to myself.
"Amaterasu, are you going to try and join an agency?!" "Amaterasu, over here, why come back after all this time!?" "Amaterasu, is there someone special at UA?!" "Amaterasu, who does your hair!?"
I laughed, and turned towards the only reporter who said anything worth responding to...
"I've returned because Principal Nezu asked me to. UA has always been like home to me, and it's time for me to share that with the next generation." I smiled and waved as I walked away.
As much as I hate it, I have to play the game. It's part of being a hero, and the students need to see that.
As I got to school, I went straight to the faculty locker room to put on my hero costume.
It had been awhile, so I had the UA team make some adjustments.
***This is kind of what I have in mind for the MC. Exceptions: eyes are a darker green color (like an emerald) and hero costume is all white instead of black. Couldn't find the perfect match-ups, but maybe I'll end up drawing it. Anyway, gives you an idea. Don't know any of the artists, but I'd love to give them credit! Not my drawings***
Back to the story....
I found my way out to the training grounds and met up with All Might.
"Amaterasu! So what they say must be true... all the villains do get distracted by your beauty!"
"Shut up, Toshinori... before I show you how I actually defeat villains" I laughed and pretended to hit him.
Just then, the students of 1A began to file out. Hmm, not a bad looking group.
I saw Midoriya and couldn't help but chuckle at his costume... he's obviously just as obsessed with All Might as All Might is with him.
"Wow Amaterasu! You're stunning!" Mina squealed.
"Mina, I told you not to be so formal..."
"Sorry, y/n-sensei! It's just so cool that a badass female hero like you is our teacher! I'm going to make you proud!" She gave me a wink and a thumbs up.
I think she's my new favorite.
"Ok everybody, listen up." I called. The class came to attention right away. Yes!!!
"The costume doesn't make you a hero, so prove to me you are one. Today, we'll be doing combat training. You'll be going against your fellow classmates, but don't hold back."
"Half of you will be villains, and the other half will be heroes." I continued to explain. "Villains will guard a nuclear weapon they intend on deploying and the heroes must stop them."
"If the heroes capture the villains or reach the nuclear core before time runs out, they win. If the villains manage to keep the nuclear core for the whole time or they capture the heroes, they win."
" Any questions? Good. Let's get started."
All Might smiled at me, impressed by how I took control. Maybe I can do this after all. He began to separate the class into teams.
"Up first is hero Team A, Midoriya and Uraraka, versus villain Team D, Bakugo and Ida." All Might announced. "The rest of you, follow us to the observatory."
I was anxious about the two boys already battling it out... Yesterday it looked like the fire explosion kid was going to blow off Midoriya's green head.
I looked to All Might as we walked, "Are we planning on interfering?" I asked calmly.
"No."
I knew he wanted to see what the kid was made of, but come on... Explosion boy was hot-headed enough to even freak me out a little bit.
Just as we were about to head inside, I heard Bakugo yell, "Prepare to die!" .... I hope he's just getting into character.
From the observation deck, you could see the entire training ground and there were tons of screens streaming live footage from inside the buildings.
It took less than 5 minutes and Bakugo had already gone rogue trying to destroy Midoriya. Poor Ida. He never stood a chance.
We continued to watch the intense battle as Bakugo and Midoriya went at each other, verbally and physically.
Why does Bakugo hate him so much? And why does Midoriya idealize him? This relationship is so confusing.
I watched Midoriya intensely. He's smart. There's no way he's stronger the Bakugo, but he's beating him with wit.
Bakugo is a powerhouse, but his emotions are misguided. Together, they're talents could be unstoppable.
I tried to watch Ida and Uraraka, but I was too invested. Besides, Ida had moved everything so Uraraka couldn't use her quirk.
Another smart move.
Urkakra tells Midoriya that they're on the 5th floor... now how will this little mastermind proceed?
Just then, Bakugo explains the gauntlets on his costume... "Do not use that attack Bakugo!" All Might calls into the speaker.
The whole class begins to panic, and I look at All Might for direction. He shook his head...
This is crazy! We have to help.
But I can see All Might standing firm, so I follow suit.
Bakugo continues to use his attacks, despite All Might's warnings and his threat of failure.
The class begins to erupt in applause for Bakugo and how he has managed to turn the tides against Midoriya.
Unbelievable. Midoriya, use your quirk already.
The two begin to charge at one another.
There's no way they're going to make it out of this in one piece!
But as they are about to collide, Midoriya smashes the ceiling of every floor in the building! Uraraka seizes this opportunity and uses the debris to attack Ida.
She finds an opening and secures the victory for Team A!
Midoriya really is brilliant. But what is his quirk? And why can't his body handle it?
The teams exit the building, and we all join them to debrief their match. Ida is the clear MVP, having stayed in character and completed his role.
Midoriya is broken and his final attack was reckless. Bakugo is a hot mess. And Uraraka let her guard down too easily...
Yaoyorozu explained it perfectly to the class, and I was impressed by her ability to analyze the situation. Another mentee perhaps?
As she finishes her explanation, Bakugo begins to charge at Midoriya. "Deku, you damn fool!!!"
"Kacchan, please!" Midoriya cries out, raising his broken fist.
He's going to kill him! What the hell is this kids problem!? What's with the nicknames?!
I react by punching the ground, concentrating and causing the pieces of earth beneath Midoriya and Bakugo to shoot upward. Both boys begin to fly through the air.
10..15..20 feet high! I'm pissed.
They're acting like children, not heroes in training.
My eyes begin to glow, a side effect of my quirk when I get too... overzealous.
As they begin to free fall, I create air spheres around them to keep them suspended.
"What the hell you two!?" I scream. Midoriya is crying and Bakugo is desperately trying to pound his way out of the circular prison.
"You both better start acting like heroes!!"
The whole class was watching in... awe? fear? I'm not sure, but their mouths were dropped.
"You get into UA, the top hero school, and this is how you behave?! You ought to be ashamed! Recognize your privilege, act with some dignity!"
All Might was trying his best not to laugh. Eraser Head, on the other hand, had just showed up and he wasn't as amused.
I began to let Midoriya down, and released his air sphere. "Midoriya, go see Recovery Girl. Now!" I yelled.
"Yes, y/n-sensei" He said shakily before taking off.
I slowly let down Bakugo's sphere. When he was safe on the ground, I released him.
He glared at me, fuming. "Who the hell do you think you are!? I'll make you regret that!!"
I sighed and looked down, defeated.
"Bakugo, listen..." I said calmly, but I don't think he heard me over his screaming.
I made a water muzzle and covered his mouth, leaving enough room for him to still breath from his nose... just so I could get a word in.
He clawed at it ferociously, but it recovered at a rate much quicker than he could do anything about it.
"Bakugo, just listen..." The whole class was silent to hear what I was saying. I spoke so low it was almost a whisper.
"You're talented. More than you even know. You ooze raw, untapped potential, but these emotions. This anger. It'll only hold you back. I believe in you, Bakugo. It's time to start acting like you believe in yourself..."
With that, the water muzzle disappeared, but not by my doing— although the class believed I released him.
I looked at Aizawa, he had erased my quirk.
"That's enough." He called. "Everyone back to the observatory. You still have a lot of teams left. All Might, lead the rest of the exercises."
As the class disappeared, Aizawa turned to me. "y/n, that's not how we deal with our students."
"I'm their teacher too. If they want to act like children, I'll treat them as such."
I had calmed down about the Deku/Kacchan incident, but him erasing my quirk was making my blood boil.
Who the hell does he think he is? Did he really think I couldn't handle myself?
"y/n...." he sighed. I started walking towards him, never breaking eye contact. He stood motionless...
Was he scared? Speechless? Disappointed? At this moment, I didn't care.
"If you erase my quirk again, things won't be so amicable." I said in a soft voice as I stood next to him.
He continued to stare as I kept walking away, but I didn't care.
He would know, everyone here would know, I'm not someone to mess with.
I won't just lie down because of my past, my looks, my gender, my age... whatever it is that makes people think I'm less worthy of being a hero.
I will be respected. I have to be respected.
**Aizawa's POV**
She hasn't changed much... Still just as eager to prove herself, even after all this time.
Even after being top of her class...The #1 hero in America...Being recruited to teach at UA.
I sighed to myself as I watched her walk away.
I guess I'll just have to break down some walls.
