Chapter 10
"Well this looks safe enough?" Says Anna. They are both seated in the somewhat trashed Mercedes right in front of a hotel. It's a tall building, with lots of lighting with the letters BLOC HOTEL written high on it.
"Looks expensive to me!" He says with a dissatisfied look.
"C'mon it's just for a night."
"Yeah a pretty expensive night.
"Don't be a miser Duke. Cmon. Lets check it out." She says as they exit the trashed vehicle.
Duke walks straight with his head tilted high and both hands stuffed in his pockets. They enter the building and head straight for the lobby.
"Good evening, welcome to Bloc Hotel, how may i help you?" The lady behind the desk says with a big smile on her face.
"Room for two please!"
"Okay. Please write your names here, and sign here, and here." Says the lobby lady as she pushes a small documented sheet over to them. They both pen down their names and sign. The lady hands over a key to Anna.
"Room 107. Sixth floor. Enjoy your stay." She says again with another big smile on her face.
They both head to the elevator and Anna pushes a button, waiting patiently for it to come down. The light moves on the numbers in a descending order as it finally reaches 1. "Tink" The twin doors of the elevator open and Anna steps in first, followed by Duke who still has his hands in his pockets.
Anna pushes the sixth button and the twin doors close once more as the elevator begins its ascend. Both remain silent and all that can be heard is the humming sound of the ascending elevator.
Duke steals a glance at Anna who seems to be looking strictly forward.
"That was really something you pulled off on that bridge." He says, breaking the deafening silence.
"Thanks. I didn't really think it would work though. It was a lucky shot."
"I see. Just like you lucky guessed that the criminal would show up here?"
"No, that was obvious. A high rated thief wouldn't miss a high rated ball. At least, not one that exhibits the crown jewel."
"Have you opened it yet?"
"Nope."
"Are you sure it's in there? I mean, she's a pretty smart criminal. It could be empty."
"Well we'll just have to find out, wont we." "Tink" the elevator gets to the sixth floor and stops.
The twin doors open, revealing a long hallway, with doors on each side.
They look around and Anna spots 107, printed on a golden plated door label, on the third door to her left.
She walks briskly to the door and dips her right hand into her right pocket, feeling the cold key in her palms.
She takes it out and inserts it into the keyhole. Click she hears as she turns the key in an anti-clockwise motion.
She grabs the door-knob, turns it, and the door swings open, revealing a luxurious room with a king sized bed with plain white sheets, a bedside table with an umbrella lamp on top of it, and a fine dark couch, placed east of the room. On the west side of the wall is a door. Probably the bathroom.
"Now this, my friend, is what I'm talking about." She says with a smirk.
They walk in and close the door behind them. Duke jumps up on the bed with a sigh.
"Ah ah ah, you're sleeping in the couch." Anna says, pointing to the fine black couch.
"What?" Duke asks in disbelief.
"Well you didn't think you we're sleeping on the same bed with me, did you.?"
"What are you talking about?"
"Let's just make it clear. You are sleeping in the couch."
"I'm not gonna murder you you know?" He says then gives up with a sigh.
......
"Ring Ring"
Gordon picks up the phone from the receiver and directs it to his left ear.
"Gordon!" McCoy's voice comes in through the phone. Gordon is well aware of who it is even though he hasn't asked. But its been so long since he talked to him in person.
Since he was sent off the team, he never contacted him. For some reason he never saw the need to.
"What do you want McCoy?"
"It's nice to hear from you too Gordon. It's been a long time."
"Indeed. But you didn't just call to ask about me McCoy." Gordon says.
"Now you're making me look like the bad person."
"You've always been the bad person. It's not something new. I can't make you into what you already are."
"I see we still have differences. But that is not why I called. I may have something that might interest you a lot."
Gordon spins around on his office chair, facing the huge class window behind him
"And what makes you think I have interest in whatever you have?" He asks.
"You don't. But your job needs you to. I know you've been on the case of the exports of hard drugs for almost four years. Tell me Gordon. How's that going for you."
"You are no longer on the force Gordon. So I suggest you stay put and stick your nose in some other business."
"Oh but it concerns me. You see, being on the force meant everything to me.
And it still does. So I'm just trying to help."
"We don't need your help. We've got everything under control. And...."
"C'mon Gordon, you don't even have any leads on who leads these drug deals" McCoy interrupts.
"But I can tell you who it is, and where their business goes down. Save you the trouble."
"And just how do you know that?"
"You know me Gordon. I've always had my ways."
"Well you can keep your ways to yourself. And do yourself a favour. Stay out of our business." He hangs up and slams the phone back on the receiver.
His head filled with anger and fury. Whatever differences they have, it most definitely isn't a good one.
McCoy has been nothing but a filthy liar and a fraud. But he is right about one thing. Gordon has been on the case of drug export for four years with yet no leads.
It's quite strange that McCoy would call to offer him something that does interest him a lot. He definitely wouldn't do it for free. He needs something. It could all be bluffs. But what if he really did have all the Intel he has been searching for four years?
