Chapter 3

Cass and Oak returned to where they had been staying for the last day or so. The camp was built in a small clearing, but was well hidden by the surrounding trees and bushes. There were a few tents, but no one had bothered putting them up. The night sky was clear enough that they'd be able to sleep in the open. There were three bed rolls arranged aroud a small pit of fire, one of which was already occupied by a girl. The girl was focused on cooking some fish over the campfire, and barely looked up as her friends broke into the clearing. "Hey Luci!" Cass called cheerfully. "We finished our job!". "Good" The girl who had already been in the camp replied, not looking up from what she was doing. "How were things back here?" Oak asked. Luci shrugged, taking the fish away from the fire and puting them on peices of tree bark to use as plates. "Nothing that noteworthy happened. Magma caught some fish for us, though". At the sound of his name, a large, dark, desaturated purple lump that had been lying near the bed rolls sat up, spreading his large, bat-like wings. Magma stretched before sitting back down.

Cass took one of the peices of bark with fish on it, and went over to sit on a log next to Magma. "Thanks, Mag" She said, scratching him behind one of his ears. The four ate dinner before going to sleep.

The next morning, Cass got up early. "You awake?" She asked, yawning. Oak said something inaudible before rolling over, while Luci sat up and rubbed her eyes. "You're up earlier than usual. Are you going somewhere?" Luci asked. Cass nodded. "Yeah, I thought I'd go into town and pick up some supplies before we leave. I was wondering if you needed anything." Luci shook her head. Cass considered waking Oak up and asking her if she wanted anything, but she figured that it wasn't worth it, and left for town.
