Chapter 2
Jake had to jump out of the way of the door as the two girls who he had been following exited the church. The girls started to walk away, not noticing him. "W-wait!" He called after them. The girl who he had seen stealing the money from the guard turned around.
She had a toned build, and probably did a lot of physical activity, and she had the light tan of someone who spent a good amount of time outside. Her hair was a dark, albeit desaturated, brown, and was pulled back into a messy braid. The girl's face was spotted with freckles, further supporting the idea that she spent a lot of time outside. Her most stricking feature, however, were her eyes. They were an intense, firey blue, and contrasted starkly with the rest of her appearance, which had a mostly warm color scheme. She was also wearing more masculine clothes, a short brownish red tunic with a pair of cotton pants, but Jake figured that that probably made sense given her 'occupation' as a theif, as they were probably easier to move around in.
Jake's face turned red. "Did ya need something?" The girl asked. "Um-yes. The money that you st-stole". He looked down at his feet, hoping that the girls wouldn't think that it was worth their time to beat him up for following them and asking them to give back the money they had taken. "Wait, you saw us? And you followed us here? How did I not notice that?" The girl wondered out loud. "I don't know. I'm just easy to miss, I guess" Jake answered. "Wait a second, you're that boy who was at the inn, aren't you? Why didn't you bring the guards with you? Surely they'd be better at retreiving the money that they took than you would. No offense." The other girl said.
She wasn't quite as muscular as her friend, but judging by the way she carried herself, Jake guessed that she was likely the more agile of the two. Her outfit was similar to the other girl's, except with leggings instead of pants, a longer tunic, and a belt with two dagger sheaths attatched to it, one on each side of her body. Her skin was the golden brown color of coffee when the sun shines through it, which was unsual in Rosskoning. Her hair was a dark brown, and had been made into dozens of tiny braids which were all pulled back together into a ponytail. The girls eyes were a rich, deep brown, almost black, and appeared voidlike in a hypnotizing way.
"None taken" Jake replied. "If I had told them they p-probably would have found a way to blame it on me. I figured that if could somehow manage to get it back before they left the bar, they wouldn't notice that it was gone. Also, I just wanted to know where you were going, since you weren't staying at the inn". The more agile girl nodded. "I guess that makes sense, even if you were very clearly wrong. We were hired by the priest to take the money that the guards stole so that he could do his best to give it back. Unless you want to steal soon-to-be rightfully returned money, you can't really take it back. Not that we'd let you, anyway. And to answer your question, we have a camp in the forest".
Jake waved his hands defensively. "No, of course I wouldn't steal! If anything, I'm angry that the guards took that money in the first place. I guess I should go back to the inn now, before they notice that I'm gone. My name's Jaakob, by the way. Jaakob Guarin. Most people just call me Jake, though". Jake slapped himself in the face internally. Why did he bother telling a couple of thieves his name? He was confronting them on their theft, not having a casual conversation with them. They probably thought that he was really awkward, and then the conversation would end awkwardly, and- "Nice to meet you. My name's Royse Okeke, but I go by Oak" The girl he had been talking to said. "I'm Cass." The blue eyed girl declared, holding out her hand. "Nice to meet you". Jake smiled, reassured by the girls' friendliness, and shook their hands before running back to the inn.
