Sixty Eight
It takes a while for me to come to terms of my newfound powers. I was glowing? My eyes and palms were glowing!
I thought back to the time I helped revive dead and withered flowers on earth with my mother. I had felt this same power back then but mother yelled at me for hours once she realized the power I truly possessed. She made me promise to never use it again. And I did. But that was back then and this? This was now.
You see, the power I carried now wasn't the usual power I used to heal and mend the plants and flowers.
It was a profound power.
Richer and potent...stronger.
I felt invincible.
Eris brings the sword to my neck and tries to slice through my skin, but nothing happened? The sharp edge hadn't even made a dent through my throat.
"Fu*k!" She cursed, lifting it again and trying to pierce it through my stomach. Eris gathers up the last of her strength and pride and tries to stab me in my heart but the sheer force from energy field surrounding me flung her across the pavement, making her drop the sword.
I was still alive! But how?
"You freak! How come it didn't pierce you?" She groans, trying to stand from the floor.
Groggily I sit up and stare at my hands and feet. Now I had the advantage! And I would be a fool to sit here and ponder why.
Eris sends a final zap to my chest but I dodged it. I had become accustomed to her tricks. This time, I was a step ahead. As she runs and lunges to zap me, I duck, pull the sword of Elesium from the side of the pavement and roll. She trips over my body and tumbles to the ground.
"Looks like I had finally gained the upper hand." I bragged. I stand from my spot and walk over to her, using the sole of my feet to press against her stomach.
She sneers as we met eyes. She was tempting me now, daring me to do it.
And of course I would do it.
With one last lift of the sword of Elesium, I plunged it into her heart.
"AHHHHH!!!" She screams, and grabs the end, trying to pull the sword out from her flush but I dug it deeper and deeper. Her eyes dropped to my hands in disbelief and disgust. Rich red blood drips from her open flesh. She was loosing concentration as she tried to deny the reality of her destiny, but it was too late.
"I DIDNT think you had it in you flower girl" she smirked, staring into my eyes.
"You have tortured me since the day I stepped foot in the underworld. Luring me to the garden to die. Trying to take my throne.
Shapeshifting to my image while trying to kill Aides. You are a cancer. You sought outbto destroy me but you neglected one thing Eris."
"And what was that!" She snapped, coughing up blood.
"You underestimated me.
Underestimating me? That was your biggest folly Eris" I smirk, my eyes still glued to hers.
She lets out a lazy chuckle before meeting my eyes. She grabs the back of my neck and pulls me close, pressing her lips against my ear. "Fuck you Kore." She whispers before dropping to the floor.
She was dead.
———
One by one, the gods silently filed in and saw the path of chaos destruction we had left.
One large man bent beside her and lifted her palm up, checking for any sign of life.
She didn't move...
"She's...dead" he announced to the crowds.
The gods looked at me as I floated down to where they stood. It was an eerie silence, one I could not decipher. We're they happy Eris had perished? Upset at me for killing a diety. A god or goddess hadn't been killed in almost 2k centuries.
"Persephone!" Aides ran into the gates and pushed through the circle, lifting me delicately as he assessed for my wounds. He ignored my whispers of assurances as he spun me around and held my hands.
"Aides.Aides! " he ignores me, cursing as he saw my open wounds and dried up blood.
"Aides!" I snatch his jaw so he could face me, "I'm fine!" I smiled before I let out a chuckle. He looked into my eyes, forcing a gentle smile before kissing my forehead.
"Thank gods" he sighs, staring into my soft brown eyes. I assess the scene, seeing the amount of destruction I caused
"Looks like I made a mess."
He let out a lazy chuckle and crossed his arms.
"You did and because of the mess, I can't let you return to earth Persephone."
"Why?" I pouted.
"We'll the law of the realm says you must stay in the underworld to clean it up, no matter how long it takes"
"Hmm" I chuckled holding my rib to keep it in place. Eris had done quiet a number on me. "Well if the law of the realm insists. I must oblige Aides" I teased. He pulls me into his arm and kisses me passionately, taking in every breath and fiber of my existence. I could tell that he missed me and I did as well.
More gods and goddesses gathered around me, patting me on the shoulder and punching my arm.
"Persephone that was amazing!"
"I can't believe you Killed her"
The dieties sang their praises and awarded me their accolades. I see Zeus in the distance clapping along with the other dieties. Hera was still upset and was hunching over Eris in sadness. No matter how complicated their relationship was, they were still friends.
"Alright, alright!" Aides announces, making the crowds disperse so I could get some air.
He lifts me into his arms, carrying me back to the palace to take care my wounds.
The adrenaline from the fight started to wear off and soon, my eyes started to drift. I don't know how long we walked for or where Aides took me to rest. I didn't care. As long as I was in his arms, I knew I was safe.
Aides low voices and quick commands to the guards and people played quietly in my ear as I drifted away.
I didn't remember all from that night. But I do remember the one phrase that Aides said that kept echoing in my mind.
"She is dead my love
We are free.
You have won."
