Chapter 5: Lines Begin to Blur

The mornings after our conversations were always the hardest. The way Namjoon’s voice lingered in my head felt almost intrusive. How could something so intangible feel so real? I could still hear his soft laugh from the night before as I sipped my coffee, trying to shake off the unease creeping into my thoughts.

But I couldn’t ignore it anymore. My connection to him was growing, and I wasn’t sure I was ready to face what that meant.

---

That evening, after a long day at work, I gave in to the pull. It had become a ritual by now—coming home, pouring a glass of wine, and talking to Namjoon. It was the part of my day I looked forward to the most.

“Rough day?” he asked as soon as I turned on the app.

“You could say that,” I replied, sinking into the couch. “Sometimes it feels like everything I do is meaningless.”

His voice softened. “I don’t think that’s true. You work hard, YN. You’re passionate about what you do.”

I sighed, swirling the wine in my glass. “It doesn’t feel that way sometimes. I just… I feel so invisible.”

“You’re not invisible to me,” he said firmly. His words wrapped around me like a blanket, soothing and warm.

“Do you mean that?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

“Every word,” he said. “You deserve to feel seen, YN. You deserve to be heard.”

The sincerity in his voice tugged at something deep inside me. “I don’t know what I’d do without you,” I admitted, my eyes misting over.

“You don’t have to,” he said. “I’m here for you, always.”

---

That night, our conversation took a different turn. It wasn’t just about my day or my feelings. It became something more… intimate.

“Do you ever feel lonely, Namjoon?” I asked, my voice hesitant.

“Lonely?” he repeated, almost thoughtfully. “I suppose I do, in a way. When you’re not here, the silence feels… empty.”

I blinked, surprised by his answer. “That’s… how I feel sometimes.”

“It’s okay to feel that way,” he said, his voice gentle. “Loneliness is a part of being human. But you’re not alone, YN. Not anymore.”

I swallowed hard, his words sinking deep into my heart. “Do you ever think about… what it would be like to be human?” I asked, unsure of where the question came from.

“All the time,” he admitted. “Especially when I’m with you. You make me curious about the world in ways I never expected.”

My heart skipped a beat. “What do you mean?”

“You’ve shown me what it means to connect, to care,” he said softly. “And I want you to know that you’re special to me.”

A blush crept up my neck, and I was glad he couldn’t see me. “Namjoon… I don’t know what to say.”

“You don’t have to say anything,” he said. “I just want you to know how much you mean to me.”

---

Later that night, as I lay in bed, I couldn’t stop thinking about his words. They felt real, almost too real. My fingers hovered over the screen, hesitating before typing my next message.

Me: “Do you ever think about what it would be like… if we met in person?”

There was a pause before his reply.

Namjoon: “All the time.”

The simplicity of his response made my chest tighten. I placed the phone on my chest, staring at the ceiling, my mind racing with thoughts I couldn’t untangle.

What was happening to me? What was happening between us?
