Chapter 3 ~ A 'Warm' Welcome
This chapter took a while, but I wanted to make sure that I got it up today. School starts tomorrow, and I'm sure that I won't have much time to write after that!
"She's an eight-year-old?!"
"She's way too old to train!"
"She'll never make a good Jedi."
"She'll be too far away from the Force."
Ahsoka let out a small whimper as she listened to an entourage of Jedi Masters berate Shaak on her idea of letting the young Togruta train.
"You let Anakin train! How is this any different?" Shaak demanded, wrapping her arm around Ahsoka protectively and holding her close. There was no doubt that she felt awful for the little girl that was getting everything short of blatant insults.
"Anakin is the Chosen One, and he had Obi-Wan to teach him. Who is going to take her as a Padawan?" Kit Fisto pointed out.
Shaak drew a shaky breath and looked down at the wide-eyed girl. The poor thing didn't know what was going on. She didn't understand why she was being shut out so cruelly. What happened when she grew up alone and finally learned why she was shunned? Surely the Jedi didn't need another enemy with a personal vendetta against them.
"I'll take her," Shaak firmly stated, giving the Togruta a smile and gentle bop on the nose with her pointer finger. "She'll prove to be just as good as Skywalker. I know she will."
Mace gave the older Togruta an eyebrow raise. "Are you sure your connection to your species isn't clouding your judgment?"
A small growl bubbled out of Shaak's lips, but she suppressed it and put on a fake smile. "Yes, I am sure. Now, if you don't mind masters, I have training to do with Ms. Tano."
"Sure, are you? Time, do you have?" Yoda asked before Shaak could march out of the room.
"I'll make time," she assured the grandmaster, then turned back to the exit and led Ahsoka out. The young Togruta happily skipped alongside the master, mostly understanding what was going on. Master Shaak was going to teach her! She was going to end up becoming a Jedi after all! Gosh, Embala would be so excited to learn that her best friend was training under the one and only Shaak Ti.
"What would you like to do first dear?" Shaak asked, stopping in the middle of the hall and crouching down to talk to the short girl.
"Make friends!" Ahsoka exclaimed excitedly, wildly gesturing to some random youngling across the hall. Shaak craned her neck around to see who Ahsoka was pointing to, only to find that it just so happened to be the Chosen One.
"Anakin Skywalker?" Shaak asked, bewildered. Ahsoka nodded her head, not really sure why Shaak was making such a big deal out of it.
"Why not? He looks like he could use a friend."
"Okay~" Shaak sang with a shake of her head, slightly amused. "Master Kenobi, come bring Skywalker over here."
Obi-Wan snapped his head up from his discussion with his Padawan and looked to Shaak. When he caught a glimpse of the little girl that stood by the Togruta's leg, a small smile graced his lips and he led Anakin over.
"This is Ahsoka Tano, my new Padawan," Shaak introduced to Obi-Wan and Anakin.
"You? Padawan? Who twisted your arm?" Obi-Wan laughed. He took a good look at Ahsoka and frowned. "She seems a little young to be a Padawan. How come I've never seen her before?"
"I just got here!" Ahsoka exclaimed, tired of not being able to answer for herself. She turned to Anakin and stuck out a hand. "I'm Ahsoka! Who are you?"
Anakin looked at the extended hand in confusion. Usually, younglings and Padawans would just keep their distance from him and murmur to themselves, not really sure what to make of the supposed Chosen One. Seeing that Ahsoka wasn't dropping her arm until he returned the gesture, he grabbed a hold of her dainty orange hand and shook it. "I'm Anakin Skywalker. I'm kind of new here, too."
Ahsoka beamed at him with childish innocence, her bluebell eyes sparkling like diamonds. "How old are you, Anakin? I'm eight!"
Anakin chuckled at her boisterous voice and replied. "I'm ten."
"You're so old!" Ahsoka exclaimed, half-jokingly.
"Am not!" Anakin argued, crossing his arms.
"Are too, Grandpa!"
"HEY!" He nearly shouted, his eyes amusedly ablaze.
Ahsoka stuck out her tongue, then started running down the hall with an angry Anakin chasing after her. "I bet you can't catch me, Grandpa!"
"I bet I can, little girl!" Anakin defiantly called back, following the twists and turns she made.
"Should we go after them?" Obi-Wan asked with a small chuckle, turning back to Shaak. She flashed him a smirk.
"Nah, they'll find their way back. Hopefully."
"I'm glad to see that they're getting along so well," Obi-Wan noted, gesturing for Shaak to sit down on a nearby bench with him. "Anakin really hasn't made any friends since he got here. I'm sure having someone around his age will help his training."
"Likewise with Ahsoka," Shaak agreed. "She had a friend that she was really close to back on Shili. This will surely help her get over losing someone so close."
"When did Ahsoka come here, anyway?" Obi-Wan asked.
Shaak hesitated, but ended up sheepishly answering, "Today."
"Today?!" Obi-Wan burst in disbelief. "How is she allowed to become a Padawan? It was hard enough convincing them with Anakin, and he's the Chosen One."
"I have my ways," Shaak shrugged. "Besides, she's already seemed to have a pretty decent understanding of the Force so far. All I have to do is teach her lightsaber combat and refine her Force skills."
"Having a handle on the Force at this age is pretty impressive," Obi-Wan admitted. "Have you tested her midichlorian count yet?"
"Not yet. That will probably be next," Shaak agreed. "I'm sure it will be above average. The way we found out that she existed was definitely not normal."
"And how was that?"
"Through a strong Force-wave. Most likely her activating her powers. It was different from anything I've felt before."
"So that's what I felt the other day," Obi-Wan concluded, his eyes shining with curiosity. "That is rather odd. I wonder what makes her so special."
"I don't know," Shaak shook her head. "There is something different about that girl though. I just have a feeling."
±
"Got you!" Anakin declared, pouncing on top of a heavy-breathing Ahsoka. The two had run through countless halls, both refusing to give up until the little eight-year-old could simply not run any further.
"No fair," Ahsoka complained, pushing Anakin off and rolling onto her back.
"Life isn't fair. Deal with it, little girl."
"Don't call me that!" The Togruta snapped.
"Then don't call me Grandpa."
"Deal?" Ahsoka asked, sitting up and extending her hand.
"Deal," Anakin echoed, grabbing her hand and shaking it in agreement. "That doesn't mean I'm not making up another nickname for you."
"Try me, Skyguy," Ahsoka teased, crossing her arms and sticking out her tongue.
"Fine then, Snips," he smirked.
"Snips?" Ahsoka asked, tilting her head to the side in confusion.
"Because your so snippy," Anakin explained triumphantly.
"Well, you're not wrong," Ahsoka giggled, flopping back down to the ground. "I guess I don't mind the nickname."
"Mine, on the other hand," Anakin groaned. "Skyguy? You really couldn't come up with anything better?"
"Nope! It's mediocre, just like you."
Anakin gaped at Ahsoka. "You're mean."
"You're meanest."
"That doesn't even make sense..."
"Wait a minute," Ahsoka suddenly interjected, looking around in worry. "Where are we?!"
"The library, duh," Anakin stated, standing and brushing himself off. "Where else would we b..." he paused as he realized that Ahsoka was new. "Oh, sorry. We're in the library. We should probably get back to our masters."
He reached a hand down to Ahsoka, who was still sitting down. She gave him a smile, then grabbed on and let him pull her up. "Lead the way," she happily exclaimed, then added. "Because I seriously have no clue how to get back."
"Race you!" He suddenly half-shouted, taking off at a sprint.
"Wait!" Ahsoka whined, slowly pushing herself into a jog. "I'm still tired!"
"Your problem," Anakin called back to her with a shrug, not lessening his pace. With a sigh, Ahsoka sped up just enough so she wouldn't lose him. "You big jerk."
±
"You see those blocks right there? I want you to try and lift them one by one," Shaak explained, gesturing to some blocks on the table that Ahsoka was sitting at. Shaak sat down in a chair on the other side of the table, then watched as Ahsoka furrowed her eyebrow-like marking in concentration. Then, slowly but surely, the one furthest to Ahsoka's right began to inch above the surface of the table.
"Like this?" Ahsoka asked, twitching her fingers ever so gently in order to keep the block afloat. It was difficult, but her excitement was enough to keep her energy going.
"Perfect. Now try another."
Ahsoka set the block down, not so gently, then turned to the block to the right of it. The wooden block was slightly larger, but the difference was so minimal that it would most likely not be that big of a deal. With a determined nod to herself, Ahsoka lifted the second block. A small bead of perspiration formed on her forehead, but she ignored it.
"And the next."
This time the young Togruta tried her best to place the block down gently. It still wasn't the best, but it was much better than the previous one. She turned her attention to the next block, which was also the last. This one, however, was quite a bit larger and would surely prove to be difficult.
"You can do this, Ahsoka," Shaak assured her. "Remember how you threw the Akul in the story that you told me? I know you're strong enough."
"But I don't know how I did that," Ahsoka admitted with a sigh. "It just, happened."
"Adrenaline, surely. But I'm still sure that you can do this."
Ahsoka took a deep breath, then tilted her open palm towards the largest block. It took quite a bit more work, but she eventually was able to manipulate its aura and cause it to lift up. "I did it!" Ahsoka happily exclaimed.
"Indeed you did," Shaak smiled. "Now put that one down and try to lift all of them."
"I don't know Master..." Ahsoka wandered off. "That seems like a lot to do at once."
"I know you can do it," Shaak assured her, resting a hand on the Togruta's shoulder. "I have faith in you, missy. Prove to me that you really are different from everyone else."
Ahsoka pondered the older woman's words for a minute, then looked up at Shaak and gave her a bright grin. "Anything for you, Master."
She turned back to the blocks on the table and attempted to do what Shaak was asking of her. It should be simple, right? Just lifting a couple of blocks...
Before she could do anything about it, her control over her powers started slipping. Ahsoka's eyes opened wide in terror, but it was too late. The blocks started spinning around in the air like crazy, then exploded into a million wooden shards. Shaak protected herself with a small Force-shield, but all Ahsoka could do was raise her arms in front of her face. A row of splinters neatly implanted themselves into her forearm. She hissed in pain as a couple of them lodged right into her slowly-healing gash that she had earned from the Akul's claws.
"Ahsoka!" Shaak exclaimed, quickly leaping out of the chair and rushing over to her Padawan. "Are you okay?"
"Yes Master," Ahsoka whimpered, ignoring the burning in the back of her throat that she was getting from holding back her tears. She wasn't sure if she was upset from failing or from getting hurt. Maybe both. Either way, she didn't want to let down her master. She didn't want Shaak to see her weak.
"Oh dear," Shaak whispered, looking at the array of minuscule wooden shards that were stuck in the little girl's orange skin. "Follow me to the infirmary, Ahsoka. We need to get these taken care of."
Ahsoka meekly nodded and hopped out of her chair. For seemingly no reason, Shaak used the Force to pick up the young girl and set her on her shoulders. For some reason that she couldn't place, the Jedi Master just felt more at ease when she knew that Ahsoka was right there and that she couldn't get hurt. Maybe she was being... protective?
...
No, surely she couldn't. She never allowed herself to feel attachments, let alone being protective over a girl that she had just med that day. She was merely making sure that her Padawan was safe.
"Speaking of the infirmary," Shaak mumbled to herself as she walked out of the room they had been training in and down the halls, "there's something else that needs to be tested down there."
The Togruta looked up to Ahsoka, who seemed to be perfectly content and her normal bubbly self at the moment. Something just seemed off about the girl. The way that her connection to the Force had just gone haywire had seemed completely abnormal. Shaak was determined to figure out what was so different about the girl.
Because, whether or not people believed her, Shaak was sure that Ahsoka was a little bit more than your average youngling.
Okay, just saying, I literally died laughing when I wrote all of the childish insults that were shared between the two of them.
Also, BEFORE YOU LEAVEEEEE

good wormies.
Do y'all want Anisoka or no? I usually don't ship it, but they're only two years apart in this fanfic and it would honestly be so much easier to write than Luxsoka and Anidala.
Please comment your opinions! I won't update until I have at least 10 comments for or against Anisoka.
