Chapter 5
Agent X and Casey were on the road for an hour. They parked in a small parking lot and checked into a local hotel called The Elps Inn. Both of them barely said a word to each other since the events that took place at Jared's home. Casey felt knots in her stomach for abandoning him. She glimpsed at Agent X's bloody arm and he played it off as if it didn't bother him. Agent X took a red sweater to cover himself up. They exited the vehicle and headed straight to the hotel.
"I think you should go to hospital to get that arm looked at," Casey said, walking on the side of him.
"It's nothing. That wouldn't be smart to do and besides the Raven Agency is looking for us. We need to lay low and find what we can on their intended targets. I have a feeling they are planning something big."
"I'm gonna call my Dad," Casey said, reaching for her cell phone.
Agent X took her cell phone from her hands and ended the call. "You can't call him."
Casey was taken by surprise. "Why not?"
"By now the Raven Agency already infiltrated your home and they know who your family is based on your past history with them."
"I need to warn them or something."
Agent X sighed, handing her an alternative cell phone. "It's a burner phone. You can use it to call your father when we get inside."
They went through the sliding doors that emitted a bell sound, while entering a well lit up hallway and approached the black marble check-in desk. A young lady wearing a dark blouse, golden horn-rimmed glasses, with blue eyes, and having lush brown hair greeted them with a warm smile to lighten the mood. "How can I help you?"
"I need a room for two," Agent X said. "We are staying for two nights."
"You just in luck we have one available," the lady said, passing Agent X a clipboard. "Please, sign this."
Agent X signed a fake name John Gibson and Casey signed in as Elizabeth Storm. The lady took back the clipboard and passed John two key cards for room one-thirteen.
"The room is down the hall at the end and you make a right," the lady said pointing.
"Thank you," Agent X said, walking toward the room and Casey followed behind.
Agent X and Casey paced on a multi layer carpet with red, green, and white leaves while reaching their designated room one-thirteen. Agent X inserted his key card in the slot until it clicked. He pressed against the door forward and flicked on the light switch for the lights. Casey closed the door behind them. She noticed the room had a desk table with a comfort chair, a 32 inch flat screen, and a small black mini refrigerator. He went near the blinds to look out through the window. As Agent X saw the coast was clear, he closed the blinds and went into the bathroom to dress his wound. Casey plummeted herself on the bed and made a call to her father.
"Dad!"
"Hey, Pumpkin is everything alright?"
"Dad, I know it sounds crazy, but I need to leave the house and head to Aunt Clare's just for a little while."
"What's going on, dear? You sound worried."
"I'll explain everything. I just need you to leave the house. Please, Dad."
"Okay, Pumpkin I will leave right now."
"Thanks, Dad, call me when you get to Aunt Clare's."
"Yeah, Pumpkin, I'll be okay. "
"I love you."
"Love you too, Pumpkin."
Casey sighed, clinging on the burner phone for dear life. She took the remote control off the table and turned on the TV. She changed the channel to a local news program. That's when she saw Deshed shaking hands with the President of the United States, Dillion Grill, behind a podium before he took center stage swarmed with reporters. It was Deshed influence that allowed Dillion Grill to become President and an exchange for private funding for Project Dark Descent that he had no knowledge of or the experiments that took place under the government's radar. Casey's heart sank in. Something monumental was happening and it made Casey more tense and on edge."Agent X, I think you should see this."
Agent X came out of the bathroom silent as his eyes locked on to the image of the man who tried to have him killed that night of the Raven Agency. Every fiber in his being tells him that Deshed was up to something diabolical. The question was what was the man up to? His hand clenched at the sight of him.
Deshed turned to the President while smiling and stepped up the podium. "Thank you, Mr. President. I would like to announce a new type of advancement for our military. This is a new age for mankind. We are at the forefront of medical breakthroughs. With cutting edge technology, we were able to create a new drug called Zela that would grant ordinary individuals intelligence, endurance, enhanced strength, and the ability to withstand modern warfare. Starting today, at this moment, my institute will deploy this drug to every military branch in the United States. This will change the world for the better. All the information you want to know about Zela will be online. That's all I have. Thank you for your time." Deshed walked off the podium ignoring the questions from reporters, and leaving through the back door. The President took the helm of the stage and continued to quell the media's curiosity, digging on the latest scoop on the new drug.
"Whatever he is planning with that drug spells trouble for us," Casey said. "If I had to guess, I would say he was planning on building his own army. But for what purpose?"
"Which is why I'm gonna go and pay a visit to the Raven Institute to destroy all the drugs," Agent X said.
"Are you sure that's wise when Agent L and the others are trying to track us down?" Casey asked, trying to reason with him.
"No need to worry, I can handle them. I just need you to stay here until I come back," Agent X said in a confident tone.
"I should go with you."
Agent X shook his head."No, it's too dangerous."
Casey had her hands on her hips. "I'm going with you."
"I guess there is no talking you out of this. Alright, you drive. But, if anything goes wrong, you get out here at the first sign of trouble and don't look back," Agent X said.
"Okay."
Agent X nodded.
After a couple of hours of traveling, they arrived at the entrance of the Raven Agency. The very place they tinkered with Agent X's body and mind into a trained killing machine. The place was crawling with security guards. Agent X had a plan to get inside that would require tact. A skill he is well versed at. The plan was simple:get inside the Raven Agency, find Deshed, and destroy Zela at all cost. Casey's eyebrows raised as she was uneasy letting Agent X go out there on his own against all these men. She wished she could be more of an assistance, rather than wait in the car for his possible return.
Agent X got out of the car and crouched down on the ground without making a sound behind one guard that was medium built and all alone. In a calculated move, Agent X yanked him away in the chokehold into the bushy area whereas the guard struggled for breath, trying to break free of his hold. With the right amount of force, Agent X gritted his teeth as he snapped his neck, like a chicken bone making a wish, and went down like a sack of potatoes. He stripped off the guards clothes and his gear, despite the fact, the clothing was tight on his frame. Agent X hid his body so as not to draw attention to himself. He walked toward the gate with a cold expression on his face, swiping a key card at the gate terminal as it opened on que. The guards were a little suspicious of Agent X but didn't think anything of it.
Agent X kept going until he entered the main floor of the Raven Agency. He traversed into the hallway and took the elevator up to the third floor. That's when saw in the corner of the hallway Agent L talking to Deshed in private as he hid in the corner and eavesdropped.
"What do you mean you lost him?" Deshed said, pacing back and forth. "I spent a lot of money for Project Dark Descent to work. And you can't find one man?"
"He got away, sir," Agent L said. "The tracking device that's linked to him is gone. It won't happen again."
"You got that right, it won't happen again. That's why you will be working with Agent S. Until the matter of Agent X being dealt with. I want the Zela drug operation to run smoothly. Just think of it, every soldier who takes that drug will be under my control with added perks to carry out routine kills at my beck and call. The world will be mine."
"Yes, sir," Agent L said with a disappointed tone. He walked away from Deshed, cursing under his breath.
Deshed went inside the room. Agent X waited for the chance to enter the room alone with Deshed to give him a piece of his mind with his gun ready. One step of the way, one thing was clear, Agent X wasn't gonna leave until the Zela drug was destroyed and uncover his past. If it meant using lethal force when necessary, on anyone that crossed his path, only to be acquainted with death. And more bodies will fall at the Raven Agency, which means they will need a bigger shovel to cover the dirt of the dead.
