Chapter 2

"Now, it is my turn!" Agent X rolled down the passenger side window, peeking his head through the opening of the passenger side, and fired at the first black car that was chasing them on the open thruway. He aimed for the front two tires with complete accuracy, causing the black car to spin out of control, colliding with the other cars. One black car dodged the collision and kept on pursuit.

"Did we lose them?" Casey asked in a frantic tone.

"Drive faster!" Agent X fired his gun at the car that was moving to the side.

Casey lips curled."I don't want to die! Do something!"

Casey felt the impact when the black car rammed them hard to the side, pushing closer to the rails. Agent X's eyes glared at the driver in contempt. "Oh, I got something for you. You picked the wrong day to mess with me." Agent X picked the spare grenade he brought with him after killing one of the guards from the Raven Headquarters. He pulled the pin, threw the grenade at the driver side, shattering the glass, and landed on his lap. The driver looked down and screamed as the car exploded as a big trailer truck slammed into it on the opposite lane.

Casey glanced back briefly at the destruction of the road behind her. Her hands were still shaking. A part of her felt relieved she was saved by Agent X. She was dead focusing on getting as far from the main road as possible without the Raven Agency breathing on her neck. Agent X was razor-sharp and vigilant, making sure they weren't followed again. Deshed goons were nowhere to be found.

"Are you okay?" Agent X asked in a calm tone.

"Okay? I almost got killed!"

"And you are alive. At least, say thank you for saving your butt back there,"Agent X said in a teasing tone.

She punched him in the arm.

Agent X gave a puzzled expression."What was that for?"

"I know a place where we can crash at night. It's a cabin that is not that far from here. I'll take you to Lakewood Drive by morning. The cabin is a safe spot not even the Raven Agency knows about it."

"How long have you worked with them?"

"Seven years."

"I still don't understand why they are trying to kill me and it doesn't make any sense."

"Do you remember anything at all from your former life?"

"No, I'm drawing a blank. What do you know of me?"

"Based on my records, you were a highly trained killing machine sent on various missions to kill targets."

"How many people died by hand?"

Casey paused feeling uneasy with the question.

"How many?"He turned to her. "Tell me."

"Two hundred and eighty-two."

"I don't remember doing any of that."

"It is because they erased your memory to cover their tracks."

"They took my life and turned me into a monster. I didn't ask to be this way."

"Hey." Casey reached for his cold hand. "You're not a monster, Agent X. Besides, you saved my life back there."

Agent X kept the same calm demeanor as he tried to hide his true emotions. "How far is the cabin?"

Her hand left his and placed it back on the steering wheel."About five miles. It is not far. On the way, I will stop to get some gas."

After traveling forty-five minutes, they arrived at the secluded cabin in the boondocks surrounded by grass and trees. Agent X noticed a male brown deer with antlers eating grass. It looked up at the headlights and took off out of fear as the car pulled up on the gravel. Casey and Agent X got out of the car. It didn't take long until Casey gucked at the vehicle and still couldn't get over the fact Dashed agents came close to total her car with the back bumper smashed up and dented and same for the passenger side that was complimented with multiple bullet holes. She sighed in defeat swallowing what was left of her pride.

"Follow me,"she said, adjusting her red hair.

Agent X observed his surroundings when saw up ahead what appeared to be a lake. His curiosity even expanded when he heard the sound of birds. "Hmm, do you swim here?"

"Why? Do you want to go for a swim?"

"No, I was just asking."

Casey got her black and opened the front wooden door as it creaked; she reached for the light switch on the corner to turn the lights, flicking it on. Agent X entered a large room lined up with some small tables and wooden stairs leading up into another room. There were mirrors and white wax candles at each wall. He felt a draft inside. His eyes caught the attention of a young photo portrait of Casey and a man holding her hand. He stared at it for a moment. She led Agent X to the living room that had a red royal rug.

"Make yourself at home," Casey said, turning on the small portable space heater on the corner, while plumping herself on a black leather couch. There is a spare bedroom you can sleep in. It's down the hall on the left."

"Well, I have to say. It's better than Crystal Lake."

"Did you just crack a joke?"

"And what if I did?"

"For a guy who doesn't remember anything, you are full of surprises."

"Where are your medical supplies?"

"It is upstairs on the right. If you are hungry, there is some food in the fridge. I hope you like TV Dinner. It's mostly chicken tenders, mashed potato, corn, and some brownies."

"Thanks, I appreciate your hospitality. You are probably the only one who has ever been nice to me."Agent X walked toward the hallway.

"It is not everyday I meet a tall, dark and handsome assassin that saved my life from a shady organization," Casey said, glimpsing at her cell phone screen.

Agent X overheard what she said and almost smiled as he advanced up the steps, heading straight for the bathroom. He couldn't help, but experience peace at the Cabin. A sensation that never happened to him before, since the Raven Agency brainwashed him, made him kill, and gave him amnesia. He closed the door and turned on the light and took off his shirt exposing his upper muscular body in front of a glass cabinet mirror; he found rubbing alcohol and some cotton balls to treat his arm wound.

Agent X closed up the cabinet. For a brief moment, he stared at his own reflection, hoping it would somehow jog his memory but nothing happened. No clue. He turned on the faucet from the sink and ran warm water and closed his eyes as he placed his right hand arm and wrist through it. Agent X held it in position until he heard screams, gunshots, he saw Deshed smiling and smoking with a cuban cigar, talking to four other people Agent X doesn't recognize.

There was a knock on the door that brought him back from the trance after scolding his hand and wrist, even though he couldn't feel it. Agent X turned off the faucet. He got himself a towel to dry himself as his burn on hand and wrist began to regenerate and grow new tissue, while the gunshot wound in his arm spat out the bullet and his skin closed up. "What the?"

"Is everything alright?" Casey asked, feeling concerned.

"I am okay. Do you need something?"

"There is something I need you to show you."

"Alright, I'll be down in a minute." Agent X put everything back in the mirror cabinet and slipped back on his shirt.

Agent X took his time heading down the steps as they creaked. He turned and entered the living room, seeing Casey on her small black laptop sitting on the couch. Agent X snuck up behind her without making a sound. She turned startled. "Oh, you scared me."

"What did you find?"

"I found this." Casey clicked on an image showing a map of Lakewood Drive. She pulled an image of a white house with a green front door with deeply engraved black numbers eighty-nine."Does this mean anything to you?"

Agent X reached for the white sheet of paper in his pants pocket and looked at it, seeing room eighty-nine written in blue ink. "That has to be the place. It is an hour south east from here."

"There is a man who lives there, Jared Grimsby." Casey cleared her throat while looking at his brown biting her lower lip."I got the TV Dinner ready. You are welcome to eat with me. If you don't mind, of course."

"Sure, I will."

"Great, I mean wonderful." She placed the laptop on the glass table and went with Agent X to the kitchen as they sat at opposite ends at each other. The smell of chicken tenders, corn, and mashed potato with gravy with a side brownie was alluring to the eye.

"What do you know of Deshed?"

"Besides the fact the man gives me the creeps; Deshed is the head of the Raven organization. He is the one who made you what you are." Casey took a bite of tender chicken with her fork."

Agent X gripped his fist on the table. "Why would he try to kill me? There has to be a reason. Do you know where I can find him?" Agent X took a spoonful of mashed potato with gravy.

"I can do some digging on that. For the meantime, I got you some clothes to change into. It once belonged to my brother. They should fit you. Also, there are fresh towels if you need them for the shower."

"Thank you, Casey, you have been a big help. I feel I can trust you."

"Your're welcome, Agent X. I'm gonna go hit the hay. I know you know your way around." Casey got from the table and dumped it into a steel garbage can.

"Yeah, I do. Goodnight, Casey."

"Goodnight, Agent X."

Agent X enjoyed the last reminisce of his meal in brief solitude. His only hope was getting to Lakewood to put all the pieces of his past together. It was one lead he could work with.
