Yoongi smiled, hearing Jimin's melodic laugh. Nothing felt better for Yoongi than to see his Chim Chim happy and contented.
It had been four days since they decided to stay in the younger's apartment. During those days, Y and Z had been coming in and out, what with their business trying to fix Alpha Centauri. Despite that, Z has still been around almost all day as if he was not doing anything mission-related.
Yoongi understood. The man was trying to make up for all the lost time with Jimin. His son, of course, was more than happy. Jimin no longer had that frown on his face that never seemed to go away when they had been trying to find the Data. He was simply...happy.
His eyesmile was the only thing Yoongi needed to live.
The younger boy had shared with him his thoughts about his dad. How he was so happy to have him back, to be able to talk to him again, to be able to hug him again. Jimin simply could not believe the fact that his father was there and alive. But Yoongi fully understood. Having to believe that your father is dead for almost five years, and trying to will the pain away each day, was not easy.
This was probably the best thing that happened to Jimin.
Although Yoongi was pretty sure he was the second best thing that happened in Jimin's life.
Yoongi was simply glad that Jimin had a dad that loved him so much, unlike Yoongi who only suffered shit in his own biological father. He was very, very glad that it was different for Jimin.
"You're doing good at dancing," Z commented while he and Jimin were playing cards.
His boyfriend softly giggled, the sound reminding Yoongi how much he loved Jimin's voice. "It's not that much, Appa! I just do it as a hobby."
"Hmm," Z replied thoughtfully. "I would fully support if you would decide to pursue that path. You're even good at singing. Honestly, it's all from your mom. I dance like I have two left feet."
They both dissolved into fits of laughter and Yoongi found himself smiling wider. He did remember when he heard Jimin sing the first time. They had been in the van and Jimin just suddenly sang, not knowing that Yoongi was listening.
It was...very beautiful.
Even if in another universe Yoongi did not know the boy, he would still fall in love just as hard by just hearing his voice.
He, of course, did not want to Jimin to just focus on their relationship. He knew that Jimin and Z had been apart for a long time and he was letting Jimin spend most of his time with his dad than with him. Sometimes, though, Z would ask him to join them. Those were, least to say, the awkward moments.
At the corner of his eyes, he saw something glinted. When Yoongi looked down to see what it was, his eyes landed on the plain silver band on his finger. He found himself staring at it.
He had been wearing it the entire time after what happened in the warehouse, and Z did not make any move to get it back from him. As much as he wanted to keep this ring that meant so much to him, it was not his.
Yoongi knew what to do.
===========
Jimin and Z were in the kitchen. Yoongi had asked the help of Jin so that the younger boy would leave and give him the chance to speak to Z.
Waiting around the corner and feigning nonchalance, Yoongi waited until Jimin exited the kitchen. The younger boy spotted him immediately and walked towards him.
"Hyung," Jimin greeted as he leaned to kiss Yoongi on the lips.
Even though it was just a peck, he still felt fluttering butterflies in his stomach. With a smile, he wrapped his arms around Jimin's waist and greeted the younger back. "Babe."
"Have you seen Jin-hyung? He texted me and said he needs help."
"Mmm, I don't really know, Chim. Namjoon is outside. Maybe you can ask him instead."
Jimin nodded and kissed Yoongi one more time, his plush lips a delicious sensation against Yoongi's. And with that, the boy went skipping towards the door to look for Namjoon.
Yoongi watched him as he went, his heart beating faster each second when he realized what he was about to do. Jimin did not have any idea at all how Yoongi just loved him. If he only knew what would take place. If he only knew that Yoongi would make himself as the sacrificial lamb just to have a clear conversation with the said boy's dad.
Running his hand through his hair, Yoongi exhaled loudly. It took all the effort to actually force his feet tot move towards the kitchen where he knew Jimin's dad was alone. He stepped into the room and cleared his throat, effectively drawing the attention of Z.
"Oh!" the older man said with a smile on his face. "To what pleasure do I owe your visit, son?"
Yoongi tried his best not to flush at the word 'son'. Because really, he should not be blushing at something so trivial.
"I- uh... Just wanted to talk about something important, Jaehwa-ssi..." his voice cracked a little. Damn.
The man smiled even more. "Just call me dad, Yoongi."
Yoongi blinked owlishly.
And no, he did not blush.
"U-umm... Da-"
"You're not going to call me Dad-ssi, are you?" Z asked with a chuckle, effectively summoning a blush from him.
Oh wait.
Strike that. No, he did not blush.
"Aw, look at you," Z gushed with a chuckle. He didn't sound taunting or teasing. Simply...fond. It would've made Yoongi very uncomfortable except for the fact that he was already used having this kind of attention from Y. That man seemed to think that Yoongi was a ball of fluff when it wasn't the case at all.
"You look so adorable," Z continued, confirming Yoongi's suspicions. Z and Y were indeed best friends.
"Uh, thanks..." This had been the most awkward position he had been in. Yoongi hoped he could survive this ordeal.
An awkward silence fell in the kitchen, in which Yoongi was looking everywhere but at Z while the older man was smiling. His eyes were turned upwards like two crescent moons. The eyesmile was very similar to Jimin's.
Nothing productive will happen if you'll just stand there awkwardly, Min Yoongi!
And so, trying to summon his nonexistant courage again, Yoongi finally looked up and met Z's imploring gaze. His eyes were curious and the boy just hoped that he looked fine at that moment lest his father-in-law decided he was too ugly for his son.
"I want to talk about something important," he said, finally opening his mouth.
Z tilted his head in thought, then gestured to the chairs. Yoongi blinked dumbly until he realized that the man wanted them to take a seat. Ugh, he looked so stupid right now. He wasn't like this!
The two of them finally took their seats, with Yoongi subtly angling the chair so he didn't have to face the man fully. "I'm all ears, son."
Son.
"I just..." Yoongi started, but obviously failed. He fumbled with the ring on his finger and hastily stretched out his right arm with the palm turned upwards, revealing the ring that once possessed the most dangerous data in the world. "This is yours, so it will only be right to give it back to you."
Z didn't make a move to get the ring. "Mmm, me and Chimmy have the same ring."
Yoongi nodded his head furiously. He knew he looked dumb but all he cared about was to get his message through. "Yes, Jimin told me about that. I know that this object is very important to both of you and that it represents your bond as father and son. That's why I'm returning this to you. Jimin is now wearing his smaller version as a necklace pendant, and I'm sure he'll be very happy to see you wearing this again instead of me."
The man still didn't make any move to take the ring, which made Yoongi frown in confusion.
"I bought that years ago. Back then, plain silver rings were quite a fad and Chimmy got so excited when I gave that to him as a gift," he explained. Yoongi only frowned even more because he couldn't understand where the conversation was going. He simply wanted to give the ring back to its rightful owner yet said rightful owner didn't seem to want to get it back.
But surely, Yoongi was wrong. Z should want to get it back.
"Tadashi told me you get really dramatic when you talk about that ring."
Oh.
There it was.
So that's why Z didn't want to take it just yet.
Yoongi scowled inwardly as he cursed Y for being so mouthy. That old man.
"W-Well..."
"He said that ring is very important to you because it signifies your life before you became an agent."
"U-uh..."
"He also said you were very fond of me and little Chimmy."
Damn it, Tadashi.
A smile slowly formed on Z's lips. "Honestly Yoongi, if you were a different person, it would've taken longer for me to warm up to you and accept you as my son's happy ever after. But in some way, I've known you when you were a kid. I always knew you were kind and you never took advantage of my kindness to you back then. That's the reason why I was so fond of giving you carnival tickets and food. You were also really cute, if not a little scary when you glare."
Yoongi blinked, his mind unable to process everything fast enough. He had realized right at that moment that, because of all the events that took place, he had somehow forgotten the fact that he had known Jimin's dad before.
That this guy in front of him had kindly provided him with food when he thought he would die from hunger.
That Jimin's dad was actually one of the very few things that Yoongi treasured from his miserable life as a kid.
"I would want to apologize, though," Z continued, now sighing as he gazed at Yoongi. "I purposely left the Data to you, but I was sure that nothing bad would happen and you could've sold the ring if you wanted. But of course, you didn't, because you're too good like that. Don't you think it's funny that I actually entrusted the Data to a kid I've only known for months? Maybe there's just something about you that made me trust you, Yoongi. Maybe...you and Jimin were really meant to be."
Yoongi had never been the sappy type of person. And usually, he would scowl and make gagging sounds at statements like that. But right now, all he could think of was that he was very lucky. To have Jimin. To have his friends. To have Y. And now, Z as well.
He felt his face flush and he looked away.
"Keep the ring, son. It's yours now. That ring symbolizes everything that I have entrusted to you, which are the two important things in my life-"
"The Data and Jimin," Yoongi finished for him. He felt his eyes sting but he forced the tears to go away. He would not cry in front of his father-in-law.
Z nodded in agreement. "For now, you get to keep it. I'll have it back when you and Jimin already have wedding rings. We don't want your hands to get a little crowded."
========
Almost there! Next chapt will be the last (not sure but maybe). And then the traditional 2-chapter Epilogue will follow~
Please be reminded that an AWESOME YOONMIN MOMENT just took place in Burn the Stage Ep 6. I mean, Yoongi had mentioned once and expressed a lot of times already that he really like Jimin's voice. Thus, spurring on Yoonmin shippers kekeke. BUT TO HEAR WHAT HE SAID IN BURN TS. Omo. Omo omo omo omo. The feels is overflowing I KENNOT. "I like Jimin's voice." "Not that I'm comparing but Jimin's voice is my type of voice." I don't even care if Yoonmin is real or not anymore. Just thinking about how Yoongi must have fanboyed over Jimin's voice in the closed walls of his studio is already enough to give 100 more years in my life.
That's all. Keep smiling and God bless ya'll!
