"If I only knew these kids always eat something this delicious for breakfast, I would've came out of hiding a long time ago and joined them," Z commented as he helped himself with another serving of bacon and egg.
"We also eat bacon and egg for breakfast sometimes," A quipped in while putting more rice on Hoseok's plate, only to receive a loud snort from Z. She glared up at the man while everyone that was gathered around the small plastic table watched.
"Well, we do eat bacon and egg sometimes, but you're cooking is so horrible that it always feels munching rubber and goo." Z shrugged as he speared another bacon, missing the frustrated huff of Sehee.
Least to say, everyone had varied reactions. Some wanted to laugh, some looked like they felt awkward, and Hoseok, well, he seemed to be torn between laughing at his idol's joke or sympathizing with his crush.
Yoongi chuckled internally for his dear friend.
Tadashi sighed. "At least Sehee didn't burn the butter. How could you even burn a freaking butter?! If any of you young lads are curious, maybe you can ask the founder of Alpha Centauri. The mighty Z who's so good at everything except for making toasted bread. And yes, despite the odds, he burned the butter."
Jimin, who was now thankfully beside Yoongi, giggled at this. "Yeah, you've always been so awful at cooking, Appa."
They proceeded to eat their breakfast with more bickering from Z and Y and silent chuckles from the rest. Yoongi had one of his hands resting on Jimin's lap under the table as he ate. He really missed the younger. He was not even able to cuddle that much last night because Z was practically just right across where they were sleeping!
Damn, he needed more of his Jimin. He had this strong urge to just kidnap the boy, bring him somewhere private, and just cuddle for a whole year.
And so, Yoongi slowly dragged his hand towards Jimin's upper thigh. He stopped just before he could reach the younger boy's crotch, and squeezed. A bit tightly.
Jimin's head couldn't have snapped up faster. His eyes widened and he subtly tried to push away Yoongi's grip using his free hand. Yoongi held on, though, and even winked at him just to tease.
He honestly did not have any intentions. He just sincerely missed the boy and wanted to hold him. And tease him, of course. It was always fun teasing Jimin. His angry face was really cute.
"Hyung!" Jimin whispered lowly, taking care not to let his dad hear. "Will you please not?!"
"What? I'm not doing anything," Yoongi simply said, his lips smiling lazily as he regarded his pissed off boyfriend.
Jimin narrowed his eyes, but he soon realized that Yoongi was a lost cause so he just rolled his eyes and huffed adorably.
How endearing...
"Whatever, hyung," Jimin complained, "I've got something more important to do here."
"And that is?"
Jimin pursed his lips. "Making Taehyung speak and smile again," he said, his voice evidently lower and more solemn. "I don't know if you've noticed but...he had been silent since yesterday. I...want to hear his cheerful voice again."
"Oh..." was Yoongi's intelligent answer.
So that was why Jimin had been giving more attention towards Taehyung this morning. Yoongi had been sulking at the thought of missing his boyfriend. He had also been pretty preoccupied with trying to let the fact sink in that Y and Z are with them in the van and that the mission was over. Come on, he had not even gotten over with the son-in-law thing.
He guessed he was too busy to actually notice the change in Taehyung. Yoongi thought that he was the least affected one upon knowing the Taehyung was V. He had always trusted in his gutfeel that there was no spy in their group, and he couldn't be more correct.
Taehyung was barely a spy. He was walking dangerously along the thin line between the good and the evil, but he had done his best to protect Jimin and Jungkook. Yoongi somehow figured it all out without really hearing Taehyung's side, which was probably the reason why it was easy for him to move on to the fact that Taehyung was the 'spy but not really'.
The moment Taehyung pointed the gun at Jimin's head, Yoongi knew immediately that he wouldn't kill the boy. He had never been wrong in trusting the right people before. Life taught him too much to become the expert he was now.
Yoongi frowned, seeing Jimin's obvious distress. He was smiling while speaking to Taehyung, clearly doing his best to cheer the other boy up.
But it's not just how it was. Jimin was an angel, too naïve from the reality of the world. Taehyung felt awful, and even though everyone seemed to have accepted and forgiven him, it was not enough. There had to be a closure.
The boy couldn't just walk around and pretend nothing happened. They might have forgiven him, but Yoongi could see that he had not forgiven himself.
Taehyung needed to know that they had accepted him already.
This couldn't go on.
For everyone's sake, especially for Jimin's, there should be a closure.
"Desert time!" Jin chimed, standing from his seat to get the ice cream that they had stocked in the small refrigerator.
Everyone was enjoying their share of the ice cream, except for Yoongi. As much as he tried to enjoy the sweet desert, he couldn't help but notice what was happening with the youngest three.
Jungkook's eyes and Jimin's eyes would always meet, as if silently communicating with each other, as they both tried to open exciting topics to talk about. They probably wanted to make Taehyung talk, but the boy was only smiling and nodding along.
The sadness in his eyes was still so evident, so it was pretty understandable that Jimin and Jungkook were sad as well. Yoongi could see their desperate efforts, which just made him feel like his heart was being crushed to pieces.
Jimin was forcing a laugh when Jungkook joked, his head leaning on Taehyung's shoulder as he did so. Taehyung only smiled. It was a genuine and wide smile, but it did not reach his eyes. It did not dampen the two boys' efforts, though.
Yoongi couldn't take it anymore.
With a heavy sigh, he dropped his spoon noisily into his bowl. He ignored Z's raised eyebrow at his act. He was determined to put on an end to this. And so, with a curt nod towards Taehyung's direction, he spoke, "I think we've waited long enough. What better time it is to hear the spy's side of the story than right now, as we all sat here eating this white gooey thing called vanilla ice cream."
Everyone froze at Yoongi's words, but nobody objected. If there was any objection, that would be the heated glare from Jimin directed to him and the concerned look on Jungkook's face.
Taehyung glanced around as everyone turned to regard him. There were no judgmental gazes of some kind, though, only understanding and curiosity. With a heavy sigh, Taehyung looked down at his hands that were on the table, his lips pursed into a thin line.
Jimin reached out and held one of his hands, making Taehyung look up. Yoongi watched as Jimin smiled kindly, his eyes wrinkling. "You don't have to explain anything, Tae. We'll wait when you're ready."
Taehyung stared at Jimin with a blank expression. Yoongi would've thought that Taehyung was not able to hear Jimin except for the tears that were slowly forming in the younger boy's eyes.
He shook his head resolutely and flashed his own smile. "I owe you an explanation, Jiminie." Looking at them, he continued, "I owe you all an explanation."
He stared once more at his hands, and then he opened his mouth to speak.
"I was recruited in AC when I was about to turn fifteen. My dad is a famous tennis player in Daegu, and I've always been pretty good with my reflexes because I grew up playing that sport. I was also forced to join self-defense classes which somehow made me really good at using my reflexes in combat.
"I was walking home then from my self-defence class when I met X. He introduced me to AC and tried to recruit me. As a teenager who loved playing video games and watching action movies, I was easily swayed by his words. I was really in awed by the thought of being an agent. I even asked him if I could tell Jungkook and explained to X how much I trust Kook and that we grew up together. X told me that it's up to the agent, but it would be better if I would wait for a year before telling Kookie. I agreed, too naive with everything. And then...I became V."
Yoongi nodded, fully understanding what Taehyung was saying. He was glad that X did not lie to the kid about it being the agent's decision who to trust and share the confidentiality of being an agent. At least the man did a single right thing.
Taehyung released a heavy sigh, his face frowning as he continued. "And so I started my training. I was of course first given some easy missions, and then I started with the harder ones a few months after. It had always been X who's given me missions. I know the founder had already 'died' at that time, but I never met Y, which made me a little curious and suspicious at the same time."
Tadashi clicked his tongue at the last statement. "He knew he could use you but you were not a bad person, so he couldn't put any connection between you and me, or his plans will be ruined."
"I can't believe I was not able to see through any of this..." Z whispered, regret clear in his tone.
"It's not your fault, Z," Taehyung spoke up. "He was your friend and you trusted him. Goodness can be poison sometimes, or a snake."
"He's right," Y added. He glanced at Yoongi briefly as he spoke. "Not everyone has the special talent of seeing through someone's intentions and trusting the right people."
Albeit not satisfied, Z still gave a little nod. "How did that asshole convince you to be on his side, then?" he asked with a deep frown.
Taehyung once again looked away from everyone's stare, focusing his eyes on his hands. Hands that were both clutched by Jimin and Jungkook on each side.
"I-... One day, he summoned me into the HQ. He said he had a special mission for me. He told me everything, from his plan to steal the Data to what he had done to Z. He gave me a lot of promises, but all of his promises only sounded ridiculous to me."
Taehyung glanced at Jimin briefly, his eyes lowering in what seemed to be shame. "H-He wanted me to befriend Z's son. He said he had not known that the founder had a family and that he was sure Park Jimin held the key to the Data. My mission was to find the Data, or at least a clue to where it was by being close to the most important person for Z."
Jimin gasped, but there was no hint of resentment in his eyes. He was just...full of sadness. Sadness that pierced Yoongi's heart.
He could see Z's fisted hand trembling. He knew that it was not out of anger for Taehyung, but anger for the person who had caused the misery of his son and his best friend.
"I refused, of course. I made it clear that I didn't want to be part of his plan. He only smirked at me and... A-and... I had no idea what that smirk meant, only to know the next day that Kookie had been kidnapped."
Tears now started to run from Taehyung's eyes. His hand holding Jungkook's gripped so tight that it turned white. The boy refused to look at anyone and only focused on the hands that held his.
Jimin and Jungkook wanted to say something, Yoongi was sure. But he also knew that they shouldn't interrupt, or the boy's courage might crack into pieces, leaving nothing but painful sobs.
"I knew it was him," Taehyung continued, swallowing hard. "I immediately went to the HQ and confronted X. H-He said..." More tears were now falling from the boy's eyes, but he had a hard glare fixed on the table, his tone fierce. "He told me they had placed a bomb inside Jungkook, and if I do not submit myself to their bidding, he would die. I-I had no choice but to oblige with anything they wanted me to do... I was helpless...."
"Tae..." Jungkook whispered.
Taehyung chuckled, voice hollow and without humor to it. "Suddenly, being an agent is not so exciting anymore. It just became a nightmare."
Yoongi pursed his lips. It must have been very hard. For someone as bright as Taehyung, everything had surely been devastating.
"And so I did what they told me. I befriended Jimin and gained his trust. I tried looking for any physical or abstract connection to the Data but I can't. What... What made it harder was that Jimin was so kind. It was easy to become his friend, his best friend. And although it pained me to know that Jimin was too naive with everything, I always treated him as a true friend."
Taehyung's voice cracked, and he bit his lip hard, probably to control a sob. "I had hoped that I would be able to find the Data without Jimin knowing. That we'll remain friends b-because... I'd rather live in a lie than lose him."
"Tae," Jimin uttered softly. He leaned his head on his best friend's shoulder, assuring him that everything was alright.
"I can't find anything that related to the Data and X was beginning to get impatient. I needed to keep Jimin safe and at the same time, find the freaking thing. And then S came."
"Your mission is no longer valid because Jimin was with me," Yoongi said, finally speaking.
Taehyung nodded. "But he gave me a worse one. They were already desperate because they realized that it was Y who sent Suga. They wanted to get Jimin and find the Data themselves, and so..."
"And so you and Jungkook were kidnapped."
"Yes." Taehyung's response was without any hesitation. His breathing ragged, looking like he was in pain. "I- I had to. It's the only way to keep Kook safe. Even if I know how much it would pain Jungkook to experience the same nightmare all over again, even if I knew Jimin would be very worried, I had to. I had to and I hated myself for it. Just as how I hated myself for deceiving all of you. You thought you could trust me, but all I did was betray you again and again..."
Yoongi frowned. Everything already made sense when he found out that Taehyung was the spy. Now though, it was all as clear as glass. He couldn't believe how sick X was to put out the light from this boy.
"I was the one who informed them of our locations. It was my fault that Jungkook got shot and that everyone else got hurt. I was the one who placed Hope's microphone in Jimin's pocket. I was the one who told them you have found the Data. I was..."
Please... Please make everything alright... Yoongi remembered Taehyung's words clearly when he had approached Yoongi one night in the van, asking him, pleading him to protect Jimin.
Now he finally understood what those words meant.
"You were also the one who made sure they will never catch us," Yoongi spoke, unable to stay quiet. He had to voice out his thoughts. "You knew about our preparations and the gadgets H uses, and yet the enemies never knew. They always fell trapped to whatever H prepared. You knew a lot of things that the enemy could've used against us, but they never did, because you never told them. All this time, ever since you started that sick mission of yours, ever since you forced Jimin to shower with you because apparently, that's what friends do, you did nothing but try your best to protect Jungkook and Jimin, and then us as well."
Taehyung looked lost as he listened to Yoongi, his breathing ragged with all the sobs he let out. With nothing but determination, Yoongi looked at Taehyung straight in the eye, "You were never a spy, Tae, never an enemy. We would've died long ago if you were."
Everyone around the room, except for Y and Z, nodded their heads.
"Tae," Jimin whispered carefully as if the words might break the other boy. He placed his hand on Taehyung's chin and slowly raised his head to meet his eyes.
"I'm sorry," Taehyung whispered when he met Jimin's eyes, regret and pain bursting from his gaze.
Yoongi watched as Jimin smiled, his hand gently caressing the other boy's cheeks and wiping away the tears that did not cease to fall. "I won't forgive you."
Taehyung's eyes widened, only to be replied with a wider smile from Jimin.
"Because there's nothing to be forgiven for. You don't have to apologize, Tae. You did nothing wrong. You had no choice because Jungkook's life was on the line. But even though, you still wanted to protect me, and that just made everything harder for you."
Jimin gathered Taehyung into his arms and placed his chin on the boy's head, closing his eyes with so much contentment. Jungkook, who now had tears streaming from his eyes as well, leaned forward to hug the both of them. The three stayed like that, their breaths even and their lips curled into small smiles that made everyone, even stone cold Min Yoongi, to smile as well.
He couldn't get his eyes away from them. It's like all the goodness in the world were right in front of him right now.
Yoongi opened his mouth to speak. "I have always trusted you since the beginning. And even though you turned out to be the spy, I never regretted trusting you. I always knew that you were sincere and you never meant harm, Tae. It's a fact and no one can dissuade me to think otherwise."
"I know you feel so much guilt, but you don't have to. We all know who you really are, and you don't have to worry about any of us judging you for what you have done. Jimin is right, you've done nothing wrong. You are our Kim Taehyung, and will always be Kim Taehyung, V or not. There's nothing to be worried or ashamed of. As I have said, we would've died if you were a real spy."
Hums of agreement came from everyone, as they all offered their own small and understanding smiles as well to the person who had sacrifised too much for the sake of his friends.
In the midst of the silence the enveloped their group, a sound resounded. Someone was clapping their hands, slowly and heavily.
Yoongi turned, only to meet Z's curious gaze.
He was...clapping.
Z blinked, then he slowly grinned. "Actually, my son-in-law, you wouldn't have died any other way."
