| Chapter Twenty-Five |

"Daniel, please don't this," I said with my hands up. Jack was kneeling next to me, also with his hands up. In any other situation, I knew Daniel Sousa would never shoot Jack and I, no matter how pissed he was at Jack. But while he was under Fennhoff's control... I had no idea.

Jack slowly positioned himself in front of me. "Sousa... look at me- don't listen to him," Jack said in a steady voice. His hand was out in front of him as if taming a wild animal.

The doctor looked at Daniel. "Excellent... focus," he encouraged. "Shoot them."

"No, Daniel please," I said. My voice was as steady as I could make it, and I could tell it wasn't enough with the way Jack looked back at me. "Don't listen to Fennhoff. All the things he's making you do are to help his own cause. You're an SSR agent- one of the best I've seen. What he wants? That's not good for the SSR. You have to stop him because we are on you're side, Daniel."

Daniel looked conflicted, taking hesitant steps forward until he was next to Fennhoff. The doc in question looked thrilled at all of this, hoping it would go in his direction. Jack's breathing got a bit heavier and he shouted, "Snap out of it!"

Then Daniel used his gun to basically slap the doc. Right upside the head. The doc went down in a heap and didn't move. My wide eyes went from the unconscious Russian to Daniel who looked as if nothing was wrong. Jack leaned back next to me and I saw confusion on his own face.

I watched in shock as Daniel pulled earplugs out of his ears. "Was he saying something?" he asked us.

I let out a breath of relief and laid on the floor. "Dammit, Daniel," I said. He chucked and I heard him walking towards us. "Do something like that again and I will- I will shoot you." Jack was laughing at this point too, and looked back at me with a smile. We shared a moment of eye contact and then looked back up at Daniel. "I'm being serious."

Daniel shook his head and threw the earplugs over at Fennhoff. "Oh I don't doubt that for a second. But hey, it worked, right?" he asked with a smile. I rolled my eyes and stayed on the ground. Jack got up and handed Daniel his handcuffs, mumbling a quick something to him, and then coming back to me.

"Need some help?" he asked with his hand outstretched to me. I smiled and accepted the offer, letting Jack pull me off the ground. My head hurt even more now, but I really didn't care. The thing that mattered in this very second was Jack standing right in front of me with a cute smile on his face. Oh dear god I sound like a teenager.

He reached his hand around my head and felt the spot I got hit. I winced lightly and he gave me a concerned look. "Are you okay?"

I nodded. "I've had worse happen to me," I said with a shrug and waved it off.

Jack sighed and shook his head. "Well let's not try and beat that, sound good? I'd rather not test and see exactly how much you can take," he said and we both laughed. The laughter died and we were left standing and looking at each other. "So..." he said, getting into a new topic.

"So..." I repeated. We looked at each other, searching for something to see where this was going. Jack's hand still hadn't let go of my own.

He took in a deep breath and held up our hands that hadn't let go of each other. "What does this mean?" he asked.

I bit my lip and shook my head. "I don't know."

Peggy and I followed behind a cuffed and gagged Doctor Fennhoff as Jack and Daniel escorted him to one of the SSR cars. She had red eyes and sniffed every now and then, but everything was okay. Howard and Mr. Jarvis would be back and landing soon. She had talked him out of it.

I brought my hand out of my pocket and gave Peggy a weird side hug. "You did great, Peggy. I feel terrible for leaving you alone, but you did amazing all on your own," I said.

She smiled and shook her head. "Don't feel bad, Tiffany. You needed to go after him for obvious reasons," she said. I nodded and tried to let the guilt I was feeling go away, because she was 100% correct.

"You're right, but-"

"No," she interrupted. "No 'ifs,' 'ands,' or 'buts.' You did what you had to do. I had the radio room under control and so you were fine to go get Doctor Fennhoff. Please don't beat yourself up over this." She slowed to a stop when we exited the hangar, so I stopped with her. "Why are you beating yourself up so much?" she asked.

I sighed and looked up at the sky for a second, then back down to her. "Because I can't imagine how hard it was to sit there and try to talk Howard down while Mr. Jarvis was awaiting the order to shoot him down. You shouldn't of had to do that alone," I said with a shrug.

Peggy smiled. "It honestly may have been better for me to do it alone," she admitted.

We were interrupted by Howard Stark's voice asking, "You were gonna shoot me out of the sky?" Peggy and I looked over to see him and Mr. Jarvis walking towards us and Howard wrapped his head around all of this.

"I thought that was what you would have wanted," Mr. Jarvis said. His voice was heavy with emotions, and I honestly couldn't blame him.

Howard shook his head. "No! No, it's not," he said, rather emphatically. I shared a look with Peggy and held back a laugh. "And for future reference, under no circumstance would I want anyone to shoot or otherwise hurt me. Got that?"

Mr. Jarvis sighed but said, "Your point is amply made, sir."

I couldn't really hold in a laugh anymore and received an annoyed look from Mr. Jarvis and a small glare from Howard. "I don't think I would have minded if you had gotten shot down," I mumbled. Peggy elbowed me and Howard smirked.

Howard smiled and turned to Mr. Jarvis. "Aw, you're alright, Jarvis," he said and pulled the man into a hug.

Mr. Jarvis was obviously a bit confused and said, "As are you, sir." My laugh was held in this time, as were my smart comments, as Howard walked over to Peggy. I stepped away and let them talk and walked over to Mr. Jarvis.

"Are you alright?" I asked him. He nodded and so did I. My eyes wandered and observed the landscape around us until I found Jack putting Doctor Fennhoff in the SSR vehicle. He closed the door and looked over at me, smiling once we made eye contact.

A throat cleared next to me, and I turned to face the one it came from. "How is that going if you don't mind me asking," Mr. Jarvis asked. There was no need for him to specify any more than that as we both knew exactly what he was referencing. It was obvious.

I looked back over to Jack as he talked a bit with Daniel. "It's going well, I'd have to say."

Howard and Peggy walked over to Mr. Jarvis and I. "What are we gonna do about this guy?" he asked and pointed to the doc.

Peggy sighed and said, "I suggest we put him in the trunk until we can find a permanent way to prevent him from speaking."

"What about Miss Underwood?" Mr. Jarvis questioned. I had somewhat forgotten about her and looked to Peggy to see what she had done.

"I'm afraid Dottie escaped," she said. "I'd wager we haven't seen the last of her." I nodded in agreement and looked back over to the doc, Daniel, and Jack.

Howard suddenly started chuckling. All three of us looked over at him with confusion as he nodded to himself. "Ida," he said. "That's her name. I knew I'd remember." He looked at Peggy and pointed to his head. "Steel trap."

I sighed and rolled my eyes. "You astound me sometimes. And don't take that as a compliment."

"Too late, already have."
