| Chapter Three |

A nurse accompanied me, the chief, and some other agents to the warehouse. Oh, and by some, I mean the whole office and more police officers too. We were catching these sons of bitches and that was certain.

Frank insisted I stay in a hospital and go into surgery, but I refused and told him I wanted my stuff back. I honestly couldn't care less about the suitcase items, but the things in my personal bag were very important to me and I wasn't losing them.

When we got there, I was forced to stay in the car with the nurse as she tried her best to stitch me up temporarily and just stop all the blood. There were quite a few gunshots that rung, and many agents who were outside searching through cars. One agent found my suitcase and bag tucked away in one car. When he brought it back I looked through it frantically to make sure they didn't take anything.

"They have the file containing my credentials for the interview, but that's about it," I said. I wasn't too worried, as the file pretty much just had my training and the recommendation from Frank. But everything else was there, including my now useless plane tickets. "We should make sure everyone inside is okay," I mentioned.

Not even five seconds after I said that, the front door was kicked open and SSR agents/police officers led out Edwards and his gang. I smirked at Edwards as he snarled at me. It was the chief leading him out, and I found that very fitting.

I watched as all of the goons (that were still alive at least) were led into the squad of police cars. Frank dropped Edwards off to another officer, and came back over to the car I was in with my nurse. He plopped back into the driver's seat and started the car. "Looks like we got everything taken care of. And, Tiffany, it seems you got your luggage back."

"I did. However these plane tickets I have won't work anymore. And I need a new file of my credentials. Seems they took the old one," I said. Frank nodded and we drove back to the SSR. On the way, he insisted I stay for a couple more days so I could recover nicely and be ready for plane travel. Even after I said I was fine and could fly out tomorrow, Frank didn't budge. He was stubborn; it helped make him a great chief.

Back in the SSR building, Frank and my nurse helped me down to the recovery room. Turns out I wasn't as fine as I thought. Every step down the stairs was like a sharp knife being dug into my insides. The nurse, I found out her name is Betty, told me everything would be okay and that after the gunshot wound got properly handled, rest was all I needed.

"Thank you so much Betty. You've been a lot of help," I told her once she helped me into a bed. She smiled and got me prepped for the other doctor to come in and look me over.

"Just doin' my job darling. Now, Doctor Hayes will be in shortly. He's going to be takin' care of your injuries with the help of some other nurses. Hope to see you walking outta here soon!" she said, and left the room. It came out wrong, but I got what she was trying to say.

It was silent for the next few minutes while I waited for Dr. Hayes to come into the room. Plus, it was really cold in my hospital gown that I put on before getting in here. Time went by slowly as I waited in the room. It gave me a chance to think about things, including how the hell an enemy knew where I lived and what I was doing.

The last thing I wanted to think of was a traitor, but there were very few people I told about my transfer in the short 4 hours I knew. There's a very little chance anyone could've figured what was going on without some help. My very first thought was possibly George, since he was so adamant on me staying. Multiple theories raced in my head. They kept going until the doctor came into the room, taking me from my thoughts.

"Agent Jones, I'm glad to see you alive after what I've heard. Let's look at the damage!"

~~

My prescription: rest for about three days along with some pretty intense meds. I asked for a nurse to be with me always (because the meds made me a bit loopy...) and also requested I not see George or Joseph. They were both at the bottom of my 'who I want to see list' and were not moving up anytime soon.

Of course Joseph tried. He heard about what happened from the chief and was there in the office when I came in, yet I refused to let him in. He didn't support me tackling the biggest opportunity that would ever come into my life, and I nearly couldn't even accept it. So, I wasn't seeing him.

"Alright Agent, I'm glad to say you only have a day left in this hospital room before you're cleared to leave. Chief Campbell told me that he'll have your new file for you when you leave," one of my nurses, Rosie, told me when she was administering my meds. I nodded a thank you and started to fall asleep while Rosie sat down and read a book.

My eyes close and my vision was swallowed by darkness. I felt at peace for a moment, until a dream came to entertain me. The first thing I saw was myself, standing beside a railing in what looked to be a factory. I saw two other women facing each other with such hatred in their eyes, it was clear they were enemies.

Next thing I noticed was the searing pain in my body. It was something that made me want to scream and pull my insides out, and pour out any information I needed to get the feeling to stop. The problem was I wasn't making any noise. In front of me the women started fighting with punches and kicks flying everywhere. One of them, the brunette, was fighting for me. How I knew, I didn't know, but I did. The other one, the blonde one, was the one causing my pain.

I still couldn't make noise but the pain got worse. My arms were covered in what looked like black veins that were pulsing. It was like the black stuff was alive, and I knew that's what was causing my pain.

A harsh beeping pulled me from my sleep and I woke with such a startle. Rosie was by my side trying to get through to me. "Agent....Agent.....Tiffany!" It took until she yelled out my name that I broke out of my panic. The beeping slowed back down, and I figured it was my heart rate going insane. "Is everything alright?" she asked.

"I-I'm not sure. I was having this dream and I had such an intense pain...i-it was just so-so unbearable." Rosie nodded and just made sure I had some more meds instead of calling in the doctor. The dream felt entirely too real for it to just be a dream. Instead of dwelling I moved on and watched the little TV in the corner of the room.

Walking out of the recovery room in my normal clothes was such a nice feeling. My side ached if I put too much pressure on that side of my body, but other than that I felt perfectly fine. I made my way up into the office portion of the building next to grab my file of credentials. As I passed by, different agents I knew either congratulated me or gave me their condolences for getting kidnapped, tortured, and shot. No matter what they had for me, I gave each one a true smile and a thank you.

That was, until I saw Joseph. He was looking down at some files at his desk, so he didn't know I was there. I walked as far away from him as I could to get to the place I needed, but Joseph looked up and saw me. "Tiffany!" he called out and stood up. I groaned loudly and just kept walking. "Hey are you okay?"

I stopped walking to roll my eyes at him. "Oh yes I'm perfectly fine. The groan was for you and how you wanted me to give up-"

"The greatest opportunity of your life. Yeah, I know. Just hear me out," he said, and I started to walk again. Ignoring the pain, I sped up and got to the chief's office to see Frank in there. I shut the door before Joseph could enter the room.

Frank looked at me and smiled. "Ah Tiffany! It's great to see you up and moving around on your feet. How are you feeling today?"

I smiled at him and replied, "I feel like flying!" Frank smiled and laughed. I smiled back and Frank went to pick out a file from the cabinet. "So, did you sort things out with the other chief? Dooley, right?"

"Yes I did. Explained the situation to him and he completely understands. However since it took you longer to get up there he needs you now more than ever. Get ready to be thrown into the action when you get there." Frank picked out the file and looked at my stance; I was doing all I could to keep weight off my injured side. "Are you sure you're ready to be thrown into the action again, Agent Jones?"

I nodded stood up straighter. "Yes sir. I've been ready my whole life for something this big," I reassured him. It didn't seem to truly satisfy Frank, but he nodded anyways and handed me the file. I stuck it in my bag and thanked him.

"Alright. I will being calling the office to check in on your health, but also to update you on your kidnapping case." I was going to ask him a couple more questions but he kept talking. "Yes, we are still looking into it. The fact that someone knew you were leaving and where you lived is a bit terrifying to me and the safety of all of us. I'll let you know when we have any more information."

I nodded to him and thanked Frank for his helpfulness. The office was quiet as I walked out, and I looked over at everyone. They were all working on their cases or possibly even my case too. One agent, Randal, looked up at the noise of the door opening and closing. "Tiffany!" he called out, and stood. Other agent looked over and stood as well at the sound of my name.

They all made their way over to me, giving my congratulations and hugs. "Aw guys! Thank you so much!" I said as I was handed a bouquet of flowers. They all made sure to at least give me a pat on the shoulder as I made my way out of the office. I have no idea where Joseph went, but I was so glad I didn't have to see him again.

Outside there was an SSR car waiting for me, with Rosie in the passenger seat and an official SSR driver in the, well, driver's seat. "Let's get you to the airport," Rosie said, and turned to flash me a smile. I was finally on my way to New York.

A/n: It may seem boring so far, but now we're heading up to New York so we'll be getting into Agent Carter stuff soon! I'm genuinely very excited for you guys to read the rest of this book and can't wait to get it all posted!
