Chapter 14: The Sparring Match
The tension in the camp had settled somewhat, with Kei and Ignis each basking in the newfound clarity of their powers. Superman, standing with his arms crossed, watched the two with interest. The frost radiating off Kei's blade shimmered like sunlight on fresh snow, while Ignis's flames danced with an almost ethereal golden hue.
"Kei. Ignis," Superman called out, stepping forward. His tone was calm but carried an unmistakable challenge. "Your powers have grown, and it's clear you're stronger than ever. But raw power alone isn't enough. Let's see how well you can control it in combat."
Ignis grinned, cracking her knuckles. "You're asking for a sparring match, big guy? You sure you're ready for this?"
Kei chuckled, gripping her frost blade tightly. "He's Superman. Something tells me he can take it."
Superman smirked. "One minute. Show me what you've got."
Before they could step forward, Wonder Woman approached, her lasso glowing faintly at her side. "Wait. If Superman gets to spar with you, I want in too. We'll make it a two-on-two—Superman and me versus you two."
Kei and Ignis exchanged a look. Their smiles widened.
"This," Kei said, her breath visible from the frost gathering around her, "is going to be fun."
The Match Begins
The four warriors stood in the open glade, surrounded by their allies, who watched with anticipation. Batman leaned against a tree, his expression unreadable, while The Flash tapped his foot impatiently.
"Don't hold back," Wonder Woman said, her tone firm. "We won't."
Kei and Ignis nodded in unison.
"Ready?" Superman asked, his cape fluttering in the wind.
Ignis's flames flared to life, and Kei's blade shone with icy brilliance.
"Always," Ignis replied.
Superman didn't waste time. He shot forward with a burst of speed, aiming a punch at Kei. She reacted instantly, raising her blade to block. The impact sent shockwaves through the glade, the ground cracking beneath their feet.
Ignis lunged at Wonder Woman, flames trailing behind her like a comet. Wonder Woman met her charge with her shield, the clash of fire and metal creating a blinding burst of light.
The Dance of Power
Superman and Kei moved like streaks of lightning, their blows shaking the air. Kei's frost blade carved arcs of cold energy, forcing Superman to dodge and weave. He aimed another punch, but Kei sidestepped, her blade grazing his arm and leaving a layer of frost on his suit.
"You're fast," Superman admitted, a grin tugging at his lips. "But let's see how you handle this."
He unleashed a blast of heat vision. Kei countered by slamming her blade into the ground, creating a wall of ice that absorbed the blast. She leapt over it, aiming a downward strike at Superman.
Meanwhile, Ignis was locked in an intense battle with Wonder Woman. The Amazon warrior's movements were precise and unyielding, her shield deflecting Ignis's fiery attacks.
"You fight with passion," Wonder Woman said, her lasso snapping out to ensnare Ignis's arm. "But passion without focus can be a weakness."
Ignis smirked, her flames intensifying. "Focus? How's this for focus?"
She pulled against the lasso, her fire surging through it and forcing Wonder Woman to release her grip. Ignis followed up with a spinning kick, her flames exploding outward in a radiant burst.
The Turning Point
The sparring match reached its peak as Superman and Wonder Woman regrouped. Kei and Ignis stood side by side, their powers flaring in perfect harmony.
"Not bad," Ignis said, glancing at Kei.
"Same to you," Kei replied with a grin.
Superman hovered above them, his eyes glowing faintly with heat vision. "They're stronger than we expected."
Wonder Woman nodded, tightening her grip on her sword. "But they're not invincible."
The two leapt into action simultaneously, Superman aiming for Ignis while Wonder Woman targeted Kei. The glade erupted in a dazzling display of frost, fire, and divine power.
An Unexpected Outcome
As the minute came to an end, the four warriors paused, their breathing heavy but their expressions calm.
Superman landed lightly on the ground, brushing off a thin layer of frost from his shoulder. "Impressive. You've got the strength and skill to match anyone on this team."
Wonder Woman smiled, her sword sheathed. "And you fight with heart. That will serve you well in the battles to come."
Kei and Ignis exchanged a high-five, their confidence bolstered by the encounter.
"Not bad for a couple of newcomers," Ignis said, winking.
Kei laughed. "We'll take you both on again anytime."
The Flash zipped over, grinning ear to ear. "That was awesome! Next time, can I join in?"
Batman stepped forward, his gaze piercing. "This wasn't just a test of skill. It was a test of adaptability. And you passed."
Lucifer, lounging nearby, gave a slow clap. "Bravo. Truly riveting. But let's not forget—sparring is one thing. The real battle is something else entirely."
Kei's expression grew serious. "Then let's be ready for it. Together."
