Chapter Thirteen: Goodbye, My Darling
Hey guys!
Quick update: I've finally cast Glory Northern! It's taken me forever to find someone to resemble her, but the closest I've come is Kathryn Prescott with her red hair and no bangs. :) And later in the story, I'll need an older Glory Northern, so I've cast Jane Levy as 24 year old Glory.
What do you think my choices? Hope you enjoy!

CHAPTER THIRTEEN
I wake in the middle of the freaking night to my door rattling from knocking. The thumping wakes both Pietro and I. We cautiously walk towards the door, and Pietro checks to see who it is through the window.
He sighs, opening the door to reveal Professor Mortimer on the other side. Mortimer is gasping for air, holding several pieces of equipment and files in his hands. "Sorry for barging in," he apologizes. "It's happening again."
I rub my eyes, still delirious from being awoken so suddenly. "What is happening again?"
"The wormhole! The portal! It's opening, and if we don't hurry, we'll miss it, again!"
Pietro and I don't hesitate to follow the Professor down to my lawn, where a bright, blue orb of light is hovering a couple feet off the ground. It's about three by three feet, and only getting larger. Pretty soon, it'll be big enough for a person to step through.
"Isn't it beautiful?" Mortimer says, amazed by what we see. "It's been pure fiction until this point. I never dreamed of seeing something so beautiful."
"Is it stable?" I ask.
Mortimer sets up several pieces of equipment. "I cooked this baby up last night, after thinking of what you told me. Theoretically, it can keep it stable enough for a few people to go through."
"Theoretically? Well, that is a comfort," Pietro mumbles.
I turn to him as Mortimer sets up his scientific research and plays around with it. "What do we do? We have to decide. This may be the last time it opens from this side."
"It probably will be," Mortimer says. "From the readings I'm getting, it's very powerful. It keeps getting more and more powerful, so this third portal will more than likely be the final one." He looks up at us. "I'm sorry, but you love birds need to decide within the next two minutes, or I can't guarantee your safety if you decide to go through."
"You cannot guarantee anything now," Pietro snaps.
I touch Pietro's arm. "Thank you, Professor."
Mortimer smiles and nods. I turn to face Pietro again. "What do you want?"
"No, what do you want? I want you. I do not care where."
"Pietro, you need to go back to your world. What if instead of just losing your powers, you start to fade all together?"
Pietro pauses. "Well, that does not solve the problem. If we go to my world, I will not let you vanish. I would rather die with you than live without you."
"I can't do that either," I say, stubbornly.
"The portal has reached it's max potential!" Mortimer yells over the interference the wormhole is giving off. "No rush, but this would be the ideal time! I sure as hell am going through if you two don't."
"You're going through?"
"Yes," Mortimer smiles. "I want to live in a place where science and magic are the same! You come from a literal dream world! Don't worry, the portal can carry at least three."
I nod. "You can go, Professor. We will decide soon."
"Are you sure?"
I nod, smiling. "Thank you so much for everything you've done, for believing us." I hug him.
"No, thank you, Gloria." He turns to us both. "Good luck. If you decide to come, find me on the other side." We smile and wave goodbye as he walks through the blue light and disappears.
As soon as he's gone, I turn to Pietro. He's gazing into the portal, trying to come to a decision. I can see it on his face. He misses Wanda. He misses his home. His country doesn't even exist here, and the only thing keeping him here is me. It's my fault he's tearing himself up.
I know what I have to do.
I lean up, turning his face towards mine and place a kiss on his lips. My hands are shaking as I pull him close to me. He pulls me by my waist into him. His warm, full lips cradle my slightly smaller ones. I can't deny the tears that fall, for my emotions are getting the best of me. He pulls back, confused. "Glory? What is wrong?"
This is going to hurt like hell, I think to myself.
I jump up to him and kiss him one last time. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry," I whisper.
Pietro looks confused as I take the photo from his pocket and put it in my own. I take my cell phone, which has photos and videos and vlogs, and shove it into his jacket pocket. "Gloria?" he asks.
"You'll understand one day. I'm so sorry."
I stand back and shove him off his feet into the portal. His his arms reach out for me as he enters the swirling vortex, leaving me forever. "Glory!" His voice echos back to me as his wide eyes disappear from this reality.
I start to cry. "Goodbye, my darling." I fall to my knees. This is for the best. He needed this. He will be better off back home, just as I will be here... in my lonely, average, human world.
Pietro Maximoff is gone to me forever.
The portal starts to fade, the light going slowly down. I look down at the picture of little Pietro, Wanda, and their parents, Django and Marya Maximoff. His adorable little face staring back at me, and I see water droplets falling onto the paper. I jerk the picture out from under me, realizing that it's not rain. It's my tears.
I take one last look at the portal before turning around and going towards my apartment. I can't watch it close anymore. It's too painful.
"You know what?" I say aloud, stopping in my tracks. "Screw it. Screw. It. All."
I turn around, and in a few short steps, I make the dumbest, or the most brilliant, move and run towards the portal. I jump through, the light wrapping around me and carrying me towards my love.
"Pietro, I'm coming home."
